  1. John, I think that the invitation is better to be sent by post. My post address is: Anastasios Matos, Karaoli-Demetriu 30, Tirnavos, 40100, Greece
  2. I have contacted by phone the Greek National Agency and they told me that they will not approve my prep. visit because I didn't attach in the application form an invitation by the institution who organises the meeting. This wa quite a surprise because I didn't know that this invitation was mandatory. Anyway they told me that this has nothing to do with my application form for the project itself.
  3. Not exactly... It is very difficult to prepare in a few hours a revised application form. As far as it concerns me, I am going to contact with my National Agent by phone and ask them if they need a new form or if it is OK with the old version.
  4. Research academic Computer Technology Institute (CTI) responded positevely in participating in the citizenship project. Contact person is Mr. Spyros Christodoulou (shristod@cti.gr) I am sending you a brief profile of this Institution. In case that we agree to have CTI with us in the project they have to speed up to catch the deadline for the preparatory visit (which is ...tomorrow) CTI (http://www.cti.gr) is an academic, non-profit R&D organization, financially and scientifically independent, supervised by the Greek Ministry of Education. Established in 1985 and hosted in several sites in two cities, Patras and Athens, CTI has a scientific staff of over 280 people and conducts basic and applied research targeting specific areas of computer science and technology. CTI has gone from strength to strength by coordinating and participating in a wide spectrum of R&D technology related European projects. CTI also acts as a Consultant of the State for IS operational programmes and has extended experience in strategic design, management and implementation of large scale IS projects. With respect to ICT in education, CTI designed and co-ordinated a pioneering large-scale programme (~35M€) for the pedagogical utilisation of ICT in secondary education, called “Odysseia” (http://odysseia.cti.gr), and continues to act as an official Consultant of the Greek State for strategic design and selected implementations of the national ICT programme in education. Some measurable results of “Odysseia” program have been 120 university-trained and field-practiced teacher trainers of various specialties including mathematics, 400 schools with a high level of in-service training, around 80 educational SW titles and 3 applied university courses for teacher trainers. In addition, CTI has been involved in decades of European and national R&D projects related to eLearning. The eLearning Sector of CTI has a large experience in designing and applying ICT in schools, develops innovative software for educational use, and maintains a network of active e-learning communities at several levels. It’s staff consists mainly of software developers, and it has permanent collaborations with researchers and specialized teacher trainers. Its core members had key positions in the “Odysseia” Project. During the last 3 years, the eLearning sector has designed and implemented 6 R&D projects and a large national innovation ICT project, “e-Omogeneia”, with over 70 synchronous distance courses on the educational use of ICT to Greek teachers situated in schools all over the world. (see e.g. http://ieUs.cti.gr, http://emuse.cti.gr, http://eomogeneia.cti.gr, http://isocrates.gr, etc.) Another Sector of CTI, Further Education & Training Sector, is in charge of the technical & scientific support of the Greek Ministry of Education "Teacher Training in the use of ICT" project (http://www.cti.gr/epimorfosi) involving the training of 76.000 teachers of primary and secondary education in the acquisition of basic knowledge and skills in the use of ICT.
  5. Research Academic CTI is the Greek Ministry's of Education consultant on ICT matters. It's not exclusively a teacher's training organization but it has undertook many teacher training projects up to now.
  6. I 've just proposed to the Greek Research Academic Computer Technology Intsitute / e-learning sector (http://www.cti.gr/engl_v/general/general_frames_page.html) to participate in our project. CTI/e-learning sector is a high experienced Institute in teacher training (esp. in ICT) with dozens of training projects in Greece and abroad. Mrs Dora Nousia who is head of the sector gave me positive feedback and she will answer us as soon as she speaks with her colleagues in the Institute.
  7. Yes, OK about the Burlington Hotel. Tomorrow early in the morning I 'll post my application form. I hope for the best.
  8. Is there goint to be any problem if one of us will book a hotel room, and later he won't be able to travel to Worthing because, let's say, his/her application won't be approved??
  9. Here are my data: Participant: Anastasios Matos Institution: Musical School of Larissa Country: Greece Town: Larissa
  10. It would be very usefull If anyone of the participants in this project with some experience in Comenius projects (having already filled Comenius applications) would prepare her/his application in English and attached it here so that the others could have some ideas for their own application. 11. I agree with Juan Carlos’ remarks about the practical matters of the project. I think that many crucial issues can be discussed in a project like this. First of all there are many terms pertaining to citizenship like civics, social sciences, social studies, world studies, society, studies of society, life skills and moral education. The area also has links to curriculum subjects and options, including history, geography, economics, law, politics, environmental studies, values education, religious studies, languages and science. The range of terms and subject connections underlines the breadth and complexity of the issues addressed within this area. This breadth and complexity is both a strength and a weakness. Besides there are interesting pedagogic matters like the content of the curriculum or the aims of this subject in the European Education, the citizenship’s teacher specialization and training, the teaching and learning approaches, the use of textbooks and other resources etc. On the other hand a European dimension in this project is inevitable as most of our countries are members of the E.U. (let us see the results of the referendums next days so that we can guess the future of E.U.) and other countries want to be ). Discussion about 1. the formulation of the new notion of European Citizen, 2. the effort to build a more coherent Europe, based on values and principles and not on ephemerous interests so that 3. the going to be E.U. members will accept without qualification the European ideals is already (at least in Greece) brought to prominence.
  12. It's Ok with me. I am free on September
  13. I am a teacher of classics and Modern Greek Literature in the Musical School of Larissa. I am also a secondary teacher's trainer in the use of ICT in the curriculum. I studied "Modern and classical Greek literature" in the Aristotle University of Thessalonica and I am working in Greek Upper Secondary Education for the last 15 years. I participated in many E.E. programs: (1995) “Interchange of teachers” (2002-2003) pedagogical mentor for Greece of the "Spring day in Europe" project (2004-2006) Comenius etc. During the last two years I collaborate with the Greek Computer Technology Institute (CTI) in the e-Omogeneia project (http://isocrates.gr/defaultISOKRATES.asp). I was mentor and trainer in three Greek schools in G. Britain, Germany and Ukraine. I was doing synchronous distance lectures weekly for the educational stuff through the Internet (Over IP). For the current school year I take my master in the University of Thessalia. “Modern learning environments and teaching material production”. I am married and a father of two daughters.

  19. Yes I am involved in this project as a two schools teacher’s trainer and administrator of those schools forum. There are many Greeks all over the world especially in Australia, USA, Canada, Germany, etc and the Greek Ministry of Education wants to make them cooperate and communicate via the ICT. Besides the stuff of these schools are mainly teachers who are away from Greece for 5 - 6 years to teach there and therefore they haven’t any kind of training during these years. This fact keeps them away from the current issues of education and the www.isocrates.gr with its forums and the distance learning tools keep them “updated”. This project is experimental and will run for two years After that if it will be evaluated as positive and effective, I think that Greek government will use all the knowledge and experience in a large scale (there are many Greek schools abroad and others in the interior, located in isolated islands and mountainous villages who need communication and training). 20. Hello everyone! I am Tasos Matos. I am a teacher of classic and Modern Greek History and Literature. I also train teachers in the use of ICT in the curriculum. This year, I train teachers of the Greek schools abroad, using the tools of distance learning.
  21. Greek Ministry of education with the cooperation of the RESEARCH ACADEMIC COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE (www.cti.gr), launched on March 2003 the e-omogeneia initiative (omogeneia means “Greeks in a foreign country”). There has been created a web portal (http://www.isocrates.gr/) that connects all participant Greek schools abroad. Registered users can communicate each other through forums and there are many useful data that could be retrieved, like laws, information about the Greek studies abroad etc. A powerful tool (Centra) gives the opportunity for synchronous training for those school’s teachers. For the moment, there are several schools that get every week, two hours online synchronous training for their teachers through Centra. This training includes mainly integration of the ICT in the curriculum. Results up to now are very encouraging as every participant school and teacher feels that gets high quality training for the ICT in education matters. Besides they say that they are impressed by the high technology tools that are used for the synchronous training. Tasos Matos
