Speaking on the topic of Christmas she says: "Everyone Knows its controlled by a Big Eastern Syndicate" What would be the connotations of the the word "Eastern" as used in this phrase to an ear in 1965? What would be the connotations of the word "Syndicate" as used in this phrase to an ear in 1965?
