David, Typical of US foreign policy supporting any government that wasn't Communist, when Mao came to power in 1949 with the backing of the Chinese majority, and Chiang Kai-shek's wealthy minority was forced off-shore to Taiwan -- the USA continued to back Chiang Kai-shek for decades. After all, Chiang Kai-shek had helped the USA win against Japan. The so-called "loss of China", only meant that the Communists surprised us by their takeover of mainland China from the US-backed Chiang Kai-shek. Here are two good histories on the topic: Harrison Salisbury, The Long March; The Untold Story, 1985 Jonathan D. Spence, In Search for Modern China, 1990 IMHO, the link to the JFK assassination is next to nil. The Communists didn't kill JFK, the Dallas Anticommunists did (emboldened by the John Birch Society) because they were certain in their own minds that the wealthy JFK was a "Communist."
