There is a special on the Discovery Channel on the Magic Bullet on right now. It is from that Unsolved History show. I'm skeptical about the program because they've already dragged out Dale Myer's animation.

Just saw the last segment and it made me sick. They lined up a couple of torsos and tried to replicate the wounds by firing a Mannlicher Carcano from a sixty foot tower. Although the wounds DID NOT line up (the bullet passed below the first torso's clavicle and out of the chest instead of out of the throat, hit the second torso four inches below the armpit, and failed to penetrate its thigh) and the bullet was bent into a "c" shape, they explained it all away by saying the bullet hit two ribs instead of one on the second torso and so therefore the single bullet theory was supported by their experiment. This is utter nonsense. I SCREAMED when I heard their conclusion. I nearly broke something. Obviously, they were too chicken-xxxx to say their test did not support the "magic bullet;" I'm wondering what executive made this decision. If the whole thing was a fraud they would have just faked their results.

To make matters worse, they allowed Vincent Bugliosi, who was also featured on a recent episode of Penn and Teller's TV show Bullxxxx! dismissing conspiracy theories, to have the last word, warning people that an obsession with the assassination can be "toxic" Clearly Vince is getting ready for his book release this fall. This whole turn of events really makes me angry. I wrote "Unsolved History" a letter last year offering to help them create a similar program, but one with some credibility, and received no response. Instead they feed us this crap. Well, at least they showed us the tests and that is on the record. I believe I'll be using their test in my upcoming presentation on the medical evidence.

I saw that show too, and it made me sick too! I'm writing a book on U.S. history, and I'm just about at the Conclusion. Somehow that program keeps coming back to haunt me, and I want to write about it. Any thoughts on how I can get a DVD/CD of the show?

The WC apologists have to use cartoons like Myers provides in order to

feed this nonsense to the public. The SBT was nothing more than a political

solution hatched in Washington by politicians to cover-up a huge medical problem

they had that could not be explained logically. Even some of the WC members

didn't buy Specter's theory (Russell, Boggs, Cooper, and later McCloy), and

Ford had to illegally tamper with evidence in a murder case by moving JFK's back wound six inches up to his neck to facilitate the ridiculous single bullet scenario. William Law's latest book, "In The Eye Of History," is filled with interviews of autopsy personnel who were in the morgue the night of JFK's autopsy, and not one of them support Specter's fantasy. I'll listen to the people who were there before the politicians who had a preconceived conclusion to work around.

A fantasy indeed. Hard to figure out why he insisted on it. It is hard for me to envision Specter as part of a conspiracy.

What could of happened is he proposed it to try to fit the evidence and then after proposing it he was forced to defend it. It takes a bit of courage to admit you erred on such an important subject. Besides, what a can of fish he would have opened had he disavowed his theory which is, of course, the linchpin of the sole assassin scenario.

By the way, are there people who think Oswald did it alone but he was not a nut? I think Gus Russo is in that position. He argues LHO shot JFK on his own, to retaliate for US efforts to kill Castro, and he suggests, but does not argue, that LHO may have received encouragement from pro-Castro Cubans. Are you aware of anyone else who thinks Oswald was sane but the sole shooter?

Tim, Does Mr Russo have anything approaching evidence, that Oswald killed JFK on the urging of pro-Castro agents? or is this made up from whole cloth. Also I know of no serious research that claims that Oswald was "Insane"(Whatever that means) So if he did shoot Kennedy, he was sane from a legal point of view at least, And would have stood trial as a "Sane" individual. Which leaves us of course with the W/C horse-feathers,which basically boils down to the psuedo-freudian,"Lets kill Daddy"

Tim, How about, he was a man driven by personal ambition who decided to help out his superiors. perhaps they used the pressure that they applied to Warren, to ensure compliance.Either way, I have no doubt he squared it with his concience.

I ordered it from the Discovery Channel website and have already received it and reviewed it and noticed a jillion mistakes. It really pisses me off. Here's what I've written (from an upcoming Power Point presentation)

In 2005, the Discovery Channel, owned by the Walt Disney Co., which also owns ABC, began running a program entitled JFK: Beyond the Magic Bullet. While appearing authoritative, using scientists and experts to simulate the shooting in Dealey Plaza, in an effort to prove that the single-bullet theory was plausible, the program was rife with errors and/or distortions. Ultimately, it showed how unlikely the magic bullet really is, but then turned around and claimed the opposite! Consider:

They attempted the shot from a hanging platform, at a distance of 180 feet, the distance they claim the HSCA claimed for the second shot. Well, there are two problems with this: one is that the HSCA claimed the shot came at around z-190, which according to Warren Commission’s recreation, would make it roughly 160 feet, and two is that the Dale Myers animation they used as evidence depicted the shot at z-224, which would make it roughly 190 feet. It’s unclear where they derived their 180 foot measurement unless they believed a trajectory from this distance would be more likely to miss bone.

They placed a target on the simulated torso representing the President at a point several inches to the right of the actual wound on the autopsy photos. They claimed this placement came after “triple-measurement.” What they failed to mention was that the autopsy measurements measured the distance from the shoulder and from the back of the head and their torso had no head. The HSCA and Clark Panel made estimates as to the distance from the spine, which they clearly ignored. Even so, the shooter missed this target and actually hit the torso very close to where the wound is depicted on the autopsy photos. I’d like to think this “miss” was on purpose.

When their “magic bullet,” after traversing both the Kennedy and Connally torsos, failed to explode the simulated wrist to the extent Connally’s was damaged and bounced off the simulated thigh, they looked for it in the surrounding area, only to find a clearly deformed bullet several yards to the right of the torsos. They then conducted a post-mortem to see what went "wrong." During a slow-motion replay of the shooting, the narrator states matter-of-factly that the bullet “struck Kennedy in the neck.” Someone should have told the writer of the program that that lie died with the HSCA. During these replays they never show the front of either torso.

After taking the Connally torso to a doctor, who ran a cat-scan, they concluded that the bullet struck two of Connally’s ribs instead of the one struck by the “magic bullet” and that this was why their bullet was more damaged. It was at this point of the program that I concluded the whole show was a fraud. Because the cat-scan revealed that the simulated ribs on the Connally torso were not connected to the sternum in front. This meant that there was no bone in the front of Connally’s chest for the “magic bullet” to strike, and thus create more damage and/or slow it down before it struck his wrist. Upon a replay of my own, I went back to the part of the program where they re-created the torsos and noticed that the Kennedy torso had no spine, and that neither torso had shoulder blades. While these could have been left out due to the belief that the bullet was believed to have evaded these bones, the exclusion of Connally’s front ribs, where the bullet made its exit, is inexcusable. Furthermore, they failed to point out that the two ribs damaged on the torso were the 8th and 9th ribs, in the middle of Connally’s back, some distance from the actual entrance on Connally’s 5th rib in his armpit.

When they took an autopsy report based on the damage to the torsos to an L.A. County Coroner, even more deception was exposed. For the face sheet created for the Kennedy torso revealed that the bullet exited not from the torso’s throat but from its left chest, and that it probably would have hit its spine (if it had one) and must have hit its sternum. While a probe poked through a skeleton by the doctor to depict the path of the bullet contradicts this conclusion, as it passes to the right of the sternum, it still explodes the program’s assertion of replicating the magic bullet, as the probe passes below the clavicle and first rib, which means the bullet would have pierced the President’s lung, and not just bruised it, and exited far below his throat.

In conclusion, I assert that the Discovery Channel did recreate the magic bullet, if one is to acknowledge that magic is deliberate deception designed to create the illusion that fantastic events have taken place.

And that's without even getting into the Dale Myers cartoon, which changes the position of the President's back wound depending on which angle it presents, and portrays John Connally as skinnier than Kennedy so that his right armpit will be closer to the center of the car and more in alignment with Kennedy's neck..

Yet another reason to believe that companies that specialize in children’s cartoons should keep away from interpreting history

I ordered the DVD from Discovery, and hope it will arrive fast!

What really enrages me the most is this program's pseudo-scientific framework, coupled with "conclusions" that I think would be transparently absurd to any bright ten-year-old, I hope! As I recall, they had umpty-ump "scientists" and "engineers working on recreating the models," etc. Wasn't MIT involved somehow? They clearly "started" with the result they wanted to "prove," discarding any evidence that might interfere. And what really makes me want to puke is Bugliosi's advice: Get over it; it will only make you sick to think on such things! I think about all the grad students and PhD's and such, earnestly examining the mummy of King Tut to determine whether he was assassinated or not; a TV program last night was trying to determine how an elephant died, 3 million years ago, when it was apparently sliced to bits by hungry hominds with lots of flint chips Was it murder, or did the elephant die of natural causes???? Good question! I'm voting for, they drove the beast off a cliff or something. Well, that's all well and good, but where are these scholars when it comes to taking a real look at our own recent history? Running scared.

You're right. After all the research I've done, I'm left with the feeling that the AMA stands for the American Mafia Association. There is one autopsy photo which is regularly mis-read by doctors, but which not one non-doctor I've EVER encountered, has interpreted incorrectly. It's like the more you know the less you can see. Since he was one of the few doctors, along with Helpern, Nichols, and possibly Noguchi, to break ranks on the single-bullet, and publicly say it's nonsense, I thought Dr. Cyril Wecht might be an ally when it came to reversing the medical world's interpretation of this photo. Even so, despite his earlier offer to help me understand the medical evidence, he cut off contact once I told him I thought the doctors were wrong about this photo. I now KNOW they're wrong, and will prove my case over the next few months.

As for Bugliosi, it was repulsive to watch him there on TV, telling everyone the case is toxic and not worth investigating. The implication is that we should leave the investigation to experts like him and buy his upcoming book. Well, I sent him a manuscript last year detailing much of the medical testimony, including pictures of what rifle wounds really look like, etc, and told him he could use it, free of charge, and that I just wanted to be sure he actually explored other ideas besides those in the WC, HSCA, Lattimer, and Posner material. It was returned unopened. Clearly, Vincent's preparing Case Closed 2. It makes me wanna scream.

Admittedly, part of my annoyance with this program is that last year I wrote both the producer of the program and Bugliosi, and offered to help them understand the material and create programs and books that actually explored the case, rather than just feed people lies and distortions. That both chose to ignore me was bad enough, after all, I have no three letter coda to my name, but that they collaborated on this crappy program was like rubbing my face in it.

Back to work. Truth will out.

Why bother writing seriously to such programs and such a channel? I think one necessary step to reality is accepting which media channels are completely bought to promote lies, and refuting the lie elsewhere. I noticed that EVERY one of the "Reviews" of this program by the "public" was cut from the same pattern: Oh-what-a-fine-program-this-is! Now-we-know-the-Warren-commission-was-right! I doubt the channel/program would accept any other type of comment.

Bugliosi and this program are admirably suited for ridicule, however!
