Colonel Lawrence Orlov

Recommended Posts

Colonel Lawrence Orlov is arguably, one of the most important figures in the labyrinth of individuals in, what could be referred to as the Deep Politics of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Some individuals may understandably confuse him with Alexander Orlov, a high ranking KGB official who came to the United States in the year 1938 and remained in hiding, [ostensibly from both the FBI and Soviet intelligence until the year 1953 see Alexander Orlov: The FBI's KGB General - Edward Gazur/Carroll & Graf - 2001.]

Consulting the vast literature on the JFK Assassination, one might be surprised to discover there is [comparatively little written about Colonel Orlov, for instance namebase.org mentions only three publications,

which are:

http://www.namebase.org/cgi-bin/nb01?_ORLOV_LAWRENCE_

LaFontaine,R.& M. Oswald Talked. 1996 (96-7)

Marrs,J. Crossfire. 1990 (281)

Melanson,P. Spy Saga. 1990 (89-90)

To say that this is an anomaly might be inaccurate, in the sense that the official investigative bodies, Warren Commission, Rockefeller/Church Committee's, and the HSCA arguably did not explore the background and associations of Orlov to the satisfaction of everyone who seeks a total and comprehensive evaluation of the unanswered questions of the JFK Assassination.

As a reference point, Colonel Orlov was with George DeMohrenschildt when George paid his first visit to Lee and Marina Oswald, a visit which George DeMohrenschildt maintained in his unpublished manuscript found Orlov captivated by Marina, so to speak. There is not a Forum Subject Index for Orlov, until now. Members are invited to share any information to additionally explore Col Orlov's background in relation to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Yes Bill, it is really a shame, because Colonel Lawrence Orlov, at least at a cursory glance, gives the impression of someone who really spoke his mind. Example?

Well, Orlov apparently has been been at least interviewed, in [Anthony Summers] Not in Your Lifetime it states:

"When Oswald and his Soviet wife came to the United States, in 1962, Russian émigré de Mohrenschildt was in the area and available, an excellent candidate if someone was needed to pump Oswald on his Russian adventure. He and his wife always claimed they encountered Oswald by chance, in Autumn that year, following a casual introduction by friends in the Russian community. Over the years, however, the participants have differed as to precisely how it came about. One early version was that they were taken to see Oswald by a Dallas businessman of Russian descent, Col Lawrence Orlov. Orlov, though, told an interviewer that when that meeting took place it was obvious the Oswald's and the de Mohrenschildt's had met before. De Mohrenschildt told the FBI after the assassination that they had been introduced by the doyen of the affluent Russian colony in Dallas, George Bouhe. Bouhe said it did not happen that way."

Robert,

Just to add some color, Lawrence Orlov was a competition volleyball player and his team trained and played at the YMCA (this would have been from the mid 1950's through to the early 1960's).

One of Orlov's team mates was a guy by the name of Jim Iles who had connections to the oil industry and was also allegedly associated with Jack Ruby, both men working out there.

FWIW.

It would be very hard to convince certain people that Orlov wasn't a spook, what do you think?

Robert,

I don't think there is any doubt.

Interesting to note is that Orlov listed as a personal reference an independent oil man named Jake Hamon who along with H.L. Hunt was on the advisory committee of the National Petroleum Council.

Hamon was certainly a mover and shaker. He did business with and moved in the social circle which included D.H. Byrd, Earl and Charles Cabell, Leo Corrigan, James Ling, Jack Crichton and George H.W. Bush.

Haman below.

Robert,

I have been going through some old notes and have compiled the following. How relevent it is, I'm not sure.

Murdock Lead Co. was run by a guy named W.F. Murdock. It was later purchaced by Southern Lead. The senior partner in Southern Lead was Donald Hugh Murph (killed in a single car accident in 1955) and his two sons, D. Bentley Murph and J. Virgil Murph.

In 1953, Murdock Lead purchased the metalics product company Eagle-Picher. Robb B. Murdock was named as vice president of this new venture. He had a son named James C. Murdock. I wonder if this is Grand Prairie police officer J.C. Murdock?

Add Bernard Weissman and Bill Schmidt and also YAF to PO box holders.

Weissmans testimony meandered around his experiances with his PO box, the result being him leaving Dallas as he feared for his life after finding his box under surveillance and a shortish 60ish man in tan coat and stetson keeping his box under surveillance and following him.

Perhaps to find Harry in photos one must look for an elderly man with a stetson. He was in his fifties. And based on the photo available of him posing in a backyard in front of a picket fence he was probably shortish.

Before going back to Orlov, there is definitely a facet of the PO Box issue that should be mentioned here and that concerns the "T-1, T-2" et cetera informants in relation to these individuals. To those more than cursorily familiar with the Dallas T-series informants Harry Holmes name should come to mind, for reasons obvious to this thread. I recently had a conversation with a very esteemed researcher and we both discussed the fact that on one 1963-era document you may discover a Dallas T-series informant as being a RCMP in Canada, but in another [document] the same designation refers to another completely different person, this area illustrates the complexity of sifting through the miasma of names, events et cetera....

So the big picture is there were only a select few individuals who had a ringside seat re all the PO Box information, Harry Holmes was one of them and it is interesting to look at that with the aid of hindsight

Robert, can you share any more info on the document [or what contained within it] on the RCMP informant!?...especially if located in Montreal, of great interest. Yes, Harry Holmes may well have been the focal point [or certainly worked with him/them] for postal 'dead drops' and contacts/intercepts, etc. He IMO knew a whole lot more than the official 'lie' would have us believe and was much more central to 'things' to set-up and cover-up.

Regarding the RCMP informant, was that Leslie James Bennett?

Ian Griggs explains why Harry was DA T-7

http://www.jfklancer.com/Holmes.html

____________________________

As Armstrong was DA T-6 and a Dallas PI, it may indicate Armstrong was recruited before Harry, then there is a gap until T-13.

Harry said he was with a number of other inspectors in his office watching the assassination. (in spite of a near photographic memory he was very proud of he couldn't remember who they were???). Generally the FBI did not inform their informers of who else was an informer. However there is no reason to think that Armstrong and Harry did not know of each others roles. Similarly the other inspectors.

So: perhaps if one could know who T-8 to T-12 were, one may know some others of those who were with Harry in his office. If that could be known then possibly we already know those people and can evaluate their testimonies accordingly.

For some time I've considered knowing who these other witnesses were, and hence their stories, if they exist, and their associations to others could drive a serious wedge into the conspiracy. It's a bottleneck or locked gate beyond which very important informatin may be found, if only one could crack it. Slowly that seems to be happening as piece by piece of the puzzle is assembled. (possibly a list of common members of the Dallas Citizens Council if it can be found will help). Harry came to Dallas in 1948.
