Guest Russel Tarr Posted September 13, 2006 Share Posted September 13, 2006 I have spent a large part of my summer holiday working on a brand new website: CLASSTOOLS.NET The idea of the site is to provide teachers and students with an easy way to produce and use interactive learning templates using Flash. Templates can be saved as text files or HTML pages and hosted on websites / intranets. Here's a few sample files to give you an idea of how the site works: Timline: Life of William the Conqueror Living Graph: Life of Henry VIII PostIt: What is Poverty? Target Diagram: Consequences of World War One Diamond 9: Causes of the Russian Revolution Lights Out: The Tudor Portrait Mystery It's a "work in progress" at the moment, but I think it has real potential - any feedback would be really appreciated! Also it would be good to be able to add some navigation options? Guest Russel Tarr Posted September 27, 2006 Share Posted September 27, 2006 The Flash 9 "Save to network" issue is a bit of a headache, and not one I am sure I can sort out: hence at the end of the save process you are asked if you'd like to copy and paste the raw code into a text editor (not ideal, but better than nothing!). I'm not planning to make the templates available as downloadable .swfs - the present model means I can (for example) update the Manic Miner Quiz or even add a brand new game and then someone who has created a quiz will be able to benefit from this without even having to update their link. Also, it would be impossible to save the work if the swf was running offline (it uses my server to create a temporary file using PHP which then has to speak to your computer - Flash won't do this directly). Tony Bell Posted October 11, 2006 Share Posted October 11, 2006 Why Flash? SVG is a free open source alternative supported by Opera and Mozilla. It is a W3 Standards language compatible with XHTML. I'm writting an ICT tutorial for a y9 class. To time animations it uses part of another W3 lanquage SMIL. Now this is really interesting. You can combine/syncronise text, sound and video in one multimedia.
