Greg,

Thanks for sharing that. That required alot of research!

As far as Robert Schacht, he was a minister in the First Uniterian Church on Benefit St. in Providence.

A friend of mine that was researching the socialist movement contacted his son, Robert M. Schacht, currently a lawyer. Schacht, Jr. spoke to him for a bit and commented that his father was indeed a socialist who was friends with Norman Thomas and Joe Coldwell(?) and when his father passed away, there was the who's who of the socialist party at his funeral.

Hi David,

During the Spanish Civil War, Coldwell (also a member of the War Resister's League) wrote a letter to the Socialist Call condemning his friends Eugene Debs and Norman Thomas for abandoning pacifism in cases of civil war:

If I thought I could hasten the coming of the social revolution by shooting some one there are several in the U.S. whom I would like to practice on. But I do not believe that the social revolution will be ushered in by a lot of nit-wits, who if given guns will shoot as crooked as they have been voting, and probably kill themselves and their comrades.

This gets to the heart of the split in the left: revolutionary vs evolutionary change -- which boiled down to Marxism vs Marxist-Leninism.

I am familiar with Junior. He is someone I'd want on my side in court - especially if I were guilty.

As for Senior, it is very likely he was a dupe, witting or unwitting (and people like Schachman, Thomas and Meany were certainly witting), for CIA anti-Communist activities within the labour movement. Thomas was exposed in 1967 for his work on behalf of good friend Alan Dulles, which extended to being the Chairman of the Kaplan Foundation funded American Committee for Cultural Freedom. I don't consider these people socialists, anyway. They talked and acted more like fiscally conservative libertarians, inho. In fact, out of this very milieu grew the neocons.

After having some time to reflect on this, it would be worth checking to see, in all the myriad of Warren Commission documents regarding George Lyman Paine, Frances Drake Paine and the related Johnson/Forest Group, which the FBI had infiltrated in the 1950's, when the FPCC had not even been formed yet......if some specific Paine connection, [elder's of Ruth and Michael] to ASC can be found.

I don't think anyone except hard core researchers realize the voluminous amount of Warren Commission documents there are on the

Paine's, Hyde's and Hoke's; no one is suggesting every page should be read, but has anyone ever read any of the material below?

How long does in take to read 1,555 documents, some of which are over 1,000 pages

They go back at least to 1953.

Examples abound below, and that is just a taste.

I also believe chances are good individuals such as Elizabeth Bentley, Noel Field and these elder, lesser known Paines may, to some degree bridge the timeline between the spy versus spy, East-West intrigue's which are a big part of the MFF Chronologies, which go back even further than Shanghai in the 1930's....Greg, I am sure you know what I am talking about.

Commission Document 629 - FBI Letterhead Memorandum of 17 Oct 1963 re: retired minister George L. Paine, Cambridge Massachusetts

If there is any type of correlative activity on a higher level, as in US foreign policy, in this period, it is what historian

Stephen Ambrose refers to in The Rise of Globalism as "the New Look," and NSC 268 see pages 135-145.

pages 135 and 136 state: "When General Marshall was Secretary of State he had complained that he had no muscle

to back up his foreign policy. Truman agreed and did all he could to increase the armed forces. [John Foster] Dulles

did not make such complaints. He worked with what was available-- which was, to be sure, far more than Marshall

had in 1948-- for he shared the Republican commitment to fiscal soundness.

The extent of the commitment was best seen in The New Look, a term Eisenhower coined to describe his military

policy. It combined domestic, military and foreign considerations. The New Look rejected the premise of NSC 68

that the United States could spend up to 20% of its GNP on arms; it rejected deficit financing; it supported

a policy of containment. It came into effect at a time of lessening tension. The Korean War had ended and Stalin

had died. The world seemed less dangerous. The New Look was based in large part [ironically?]

on the success of the NSC 68 program, for the first two years of the New Look were the high-water

mark of relative American military strength in the Cold War. As Samuel Huntington has noted, "The

basic military fact of the New Look was the overwhelming American superiority in nuclear weapons

and the means of delivering them......"

Greg, I've been chastised gently for not contributing to your forum, by Ms Frankie Fortune. (It was a gentle rebuke).

I do read there a lot, I'm just ..daunted by the good research there. So If I'm shy, it's because of the high regards I have for your work.

I will get there...

Greg, one of the people who isn't associated with Albert Schweitzer College to the best of my knowledge is Col Dudley Wilmeth.....

He was of course, one of these Dallas military persons, who knew the Paines. or at least knew of them....

See WC Interview of Michael Paine....

Colonel Wilmeth was associated years earlier with OFLAG-64

http://darbysrangers.tripod.com/id65.htm

So you have this group of people.....

Colonel Orlov [friend of DeMohernschildt]

Colonel Dudley Wilmeth

Colonel Howard Burris

Paul Bethel - Citizens Committee for a Free Cuba

James Daniel - Executive Director - Citizens Committee for a Free Cuba [CD 49]

Col Brandstetter "Brandy" honorary member Association of Former Intelligence Officers

David Atlee Phillips

Otto Otepka - Office of Security [was linked to Security File on Lee Oswald, allegedly did not get to read it?]

Something to think about

Voltaire once wrote something that I believe can be applied to the Kennedy assassination and to Lee Harvey Oswald

"It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong."

Thanks for the heads-up re your research in this area;

You should email me about how things went with the presentation;

Although I heard you stayed down under.

Robert,

you are correct. I didn't make it. From what I gather, it didn't go all that well. But if that assessment is true (and it is only from one source), my late withdrawal and even later sending of the presentations are almost entirely to blame for it.

On the flip side, I believe it went very well overall (as did COPA).

A gentle rebuke, Steve?

Thank you for that feed back.

Ms Fortune's contract as cheif head hunter is terminated forthwith. She was actually instructed to whip you within an inch of your life with wet celery until you capituated and signed up. ph34r.gif

Seriously though, you strike me as being level-headed while also harboring deep convictions - not always two things that are compatible, but when they are, they can take you a long way in this search (and I think they are indeed compatible with you).
