Sid, interesting how JFK authors repeat mythology surrounding the Big D on the one hand, but are right on the money concerning the Del -Tex building as a sniper location on the other. How do you suppose that works?

Sam Bloom worked on the White House Conference on Equal Employment and the National Advisory Committee on Desegregation at the behest of Kennedy, and was a chief architect in the successful move to desegregation in Dallas.

Bloom employed 350 people. His agency had departments. One such department handled PR. The head of the PR department was Helen Holmes. Ms Holmes was the one who handled the bulk of the work concerning the trip. Later, Ms Holmes branched out on her own and did a lot of work for the Republican Party. I guess Bloom just wasn't fussy who he hired...

It is a fact that there were wealthy Jews in Dallas, but with only one or two exceptions, their influence did not go beyond the Jewish community. The same can be said for most leaders in ethnic communities in the West.

The Citizens Council certainly did have a lot of power, but the leaders of the CC were neither ethnic, nor "anti-Semitic White

Anglo-Saxon Protestant oil plutocrats." Despite those types not running the Citizens Council, Dallas was a stronghold of the extreme right. If you think all the literature on this (whether JFK related, or not) is wrong, I suggest you at least read the letters sent by Larrie Schmidt to Larry Jones and Bernard Weissman. In one letter, he urged Jones to convince Weissman to both change religion and name prior to coming to Dallas, and explicitly states how much his hoped for backers hated Jews.

All that said, I do not exonerate the Citizens Council from having played a role in manipulating the motorcade route. Pinpointing just who pulled the strings on that isn't so cut and dry, and may require looking at various intricate relationships between those businessmen, certain politicians and intelligence personnel.

Sid, interesting how JFK authors repeat mythology surrounding the Big D on the one hand, but are right on the money concerning the Del -Tex building as a sniper location on the other. How do you suppose that works?

Bloom employed 350 people. His agency had departments. One such department handled PR. The head of the PR department was Helen Holmes. Ms Holmes was the one who handled the bulk of the work concerning the trip. Later, Ms Holmes branched out on her own and did a lot of work for the Republican Party. I guess Bloom just wasn't fussy who he hired...

It is a fact that there were wealthy Jews in Dallas, but with only one or two exceptions, their influence did not go beyond the Jewish community. The same can be said for most leaders in ethnic communities in the West.

The Citizens Council certainly did have a lot of power, but the leaders of the CC were neither ethnic, nor "anti-Semitic White

Anglo-Saxon Protestant oil plutocrats." Despite those types not running the Citizens Council, Dallas was a stronghold of the extreme right. If you think all the literature on this (whether JFK related, or not) is wrong, I suggest you at least read the letters sent by Larrie Schmidt to Larry Jones and Bernard Weissman. In one letter, he urged Jones to convince Weissman to both change religion and name prior to coming to Dallas, and explicitly states how much his hoped for backers hated Jews.

All that said, I do not exonerate the Citizens Council from having played a role in manipulating the motorcade route. Pinpointing just who pulled the strings on that isn't so cut and dry, and may require looking at various intricate relationships between those businessmen, certain politicians and intelligence personnel.

It's true, the stereotypical redneck hates Jews--and hispanics, asians, africans and all ethnic minorities. However, the possibility that the conflict between JFK and Israel played a role in the assassination can't be dismissed on the basis of a widely held belief in the behavior of stereotypes, imo. Jack Ruby took the precaution of changing his name and subsequently carried out clandestine operations on behalf of Israel while living and working right in the heart of redneck centrale. He moved to Dallas in 1947--one year before Israel's creation. Establishing a base of operations in a locality where it is presumed that an anti-semitic hostility prevails could be regarded as quite dumb--or perhaps the perfect cover.

Also, the fact that Bloom was appointed to an official capacity by JFK doesn't exonerate him from suspicion, imo. JFK also appointed Myer Feldman as his advisor--ostensibly as a reward to the Jewish lobby for its support of his 1960 campaign. However, RFK is on record as stating that Feldman's 'major interest was Israel rather than the US' (see Piper thread). Where Feldman's real loyalties lay is very much an open question and I believe Bloom might fall into the same category. It's clear to me that JFK was betrayed by those who had his confidence, as well as by those, like LBJ, who he kept at arm's length.

This is misleading if you look at Bruno's own account in his book "The Advance Man." Bruno mentions no trouble at all with the Citizens' Council or Dallas elite." All his trouble was with John Connally. Bruno's reference to losing the fight is the fight he had with Connally over the site of the luncheon.

Bruno does state that the Trade Mart location would be "totally under the control of the Dallas Citizens' Council," "the establishment group that ran the town's politics, social life, and everything else. A Trade Mart luncheon would be a rich people's luncheon: a way of identifying Kennedy with the Dallas establishment" (p. 90). This would be preferred by the council over the Women's Building, which had "a sprawling auditorium which could hold four thousand" and would mean that the place would be opened up after lunch so that "the people in Dallas," not just the privileged establishment, could come in and hear Kennedy (p. 89).

In jerking Bruno around over the site, Connally may have been acting on behalf of Sam Bloom and the Citizens' Council, but if so Bruno apparently wasn't aware of it. According to Bruno, Connally wanted the Trade Mart because in the Women's Building the luncheon dais could be only one level high. "At the Trade Mart you could build tiers on the dais. And that's what Connally wanted to do, so that his allies could sit with the President, while Yarborough was put as far away from Kennedy as possible, to prove who had clout and who was out of it - the Russian May Day idea again, that the closer you were to Number One, the more important you were" (p. 90).

I would also refer you to this testimony from one-time Ruby lawyer, Stanley Kaufman:

He moved to Dallas in 1947--one year before Israel's creation. Establishing a base of operations in a locality where it is presumed that an anti-semitic hostility prevails could be regarded as quite dumb--or perhaps the perfect cover.

Where Feldman's real loyalties lay is very much an open question and I believe Bloom might fall into the same category. It's clear to me that JFK was betrayed by those who had his confidence, as well as by those, like LBJ, who he kept at arm's length.

The argument's drifting from the central point, imo (at least the point I'm trying to stress), namely that many of the central players in the assassination and coverup seemed to share a common unity of purpose--support for the state of Israel. Not all supporters of Israel were Jewish. LBJ, for example. At this point it is difficult to pinpoint how much support for Israel's predicament vis-a-vis JFK existed within the power elite of Dallas but it's plain, imo, that many Dallas's power elite hated JFK and needed little persuasion in order to lend assistance to the plan. Separating the manipulators from the manipulated is the tricky part. From my standpoint, Israel gained more from the assassination than right wing rednecks did. Civil rights legislation was their reward.

Sure. But, like many of his colleagues, he was passionate about Israel. That's my point. How passionate? Enough to participate in a conspiracy to remove a President whom Israel deemed a serious threat to their long term viability and install a man with a long record of support for Israel? History has shown that JFK's removal and LBJ's accession was a major turning point in Israel's fortunes, allowing them to become a regional superpower, enjoying almost unconditional financial and military support from the US ever since.

I retain an open mind and would actually be relieved if you are correct, but I feel confident I shaln't be shouting you.

It's clear that other players were involved in the assassination of JFk and subsequent cover-up.

However, the Israel Lobby, to use Piper's term, is the tie that binds, IMO. It alone could pull together an internationally effective cover-up. It alone had the necessary pull in the mass media. It alone had ties to Angleton, Ruby, Shaw, Bloom and many others we pretty well know had key roles in a conscious conspiracy. It alone had sufficient influence within the US Government - including LBJ himself - to carry through the cover-up. It alone had a network of prominent journalists and other talking heads capable of steering attention away from its own role in the assasination for decades.

The Israel Lobby - along with the American MIC with which it is inextricably connected - benefitted from the assassination, in the short and long term. That's no accident, IMO.

The reasons why JFK was murdered still have massive political relevance. This explains why it is still such a hot topic, so heaviliy contested, with so many disniformationalists still involved.

To illustrate this point, I'd argue that the 'debate' about Iraq's WMDs, prior to 2003, that was the pretext for invasion by the USA, was a grotesque inversion of the 1960's reality faced by John Kennedy and the outcome of that contest of wills. (incidentally, this isn't a wholly original take; I recall Israel Shamir making a similar argument in around the time of the 2003 Iraq invasion).

Although Saddam Hussein had been sold tidbits in the past by western governments, he got rid of Iraqi WMDs in the 1960s as demanded by the UN. He had never been within a country mile of building nuclear weapons. The pre-invasion WMD story was bogus. Those orchestrating the war knew that very well.

actively pursung a policy of developing Israeli WMDs - biological, chemical and nuclear. The American Government suspected it. In the case of Iraq, the UN was used for the whole circus of mediating increasingly hysterical US demands and exasperated Iraqi responses. International inspection authorities were utilized. In other words, the saga was acted out in the glaze of publicity, although the process was corrupted. The UN Security Council, ultimately, was not convinced. Nevertheless, the USA attacked Iraq anyway.

Israel had been more furtunate. Discussions between the USA and the suspected nuclear-armed aspirant were kept top secret. Kennedy never pushed Israel in public. Hence few had any notion of what had been going behind the scenes until decades later - protecting Israel's secret

and

a key possible motive behind Kennedy's assassination from public knowledge until the horse had well and truly bolted.

In the case of Iraq, the Brits were actively involved (and implicated) in the propaganda show and the ensuing invasion. By contrast, Britain was kept entirely out of the loop, as far as I know, in Kennedy's negotiations with Israel over Israel's WMD program.

In the case of Saddam Hussein, his country’s invasion was followed by his own execution, following a show trial orchestrated by the victors,

Ben Gurion had much better luck. His angst of early 1963 appeared to dissipate - rather as though he had suffered a bad toothache, but the offending molar had been successfully extracted.

Kennedy, as we know, died a violent death (followed by no trial and a four-decade cover-up of the truth).
