Well it's finally come down to two teams - the Philadelphia Phllies, the losingest team in history (over 10,000 loses) against a young upstart team that was 200 - 1 against to win before the games began.

Being from East Philadelphia, also known as Camden, New Jersey, I am a diehard Phillies fan, and know what it means to lose, and on occassion, to win.

I have a case of Phillie Blunts to a box of Scott Deitche's Tampa stogies that the Phillies win the World Series, four games out of seven.

Hi Bill,

I have relatives close to Philly, across the river in Pennsauken. I went a few times to Vet's stadium in '83 and can remember Steve Carlton and Pete Rose. I think Carlton was duelling with Ryan on SO's at the time as there was a huge counter at the stadium. Unfortunately I am a Mets fan and can't believe for the second year in a row we blew the division. (Oh I also met Darryl Strawberry in Queens and got his Mets shirt)

I returned to the states in around '85 in Cincinnati and once again witnessed Pete Rose in action and this time it was he (if memory serves) who was trying to put together a hitting record (either consecutive games or total hits, not sure). Had 50yrd line seats at the Hall of Fame football game in 1988 (Mike Ditka being the only inductee I recognised).

I also met Ed deBartolo jr (then owner of the reigning champs the 49ers) in Youngstown in 85. His house was something.

Enough about me already  I hope the Phillies win.

Hi Gary,

Good to hear from you. My home in Camden was two blocks from Pennsauken so I know the territory well.

I was looking for a Tampa Bay fan to wager a bet with, so I guess I'll have to wake Scott up and nudge him a little.

The Endless Ballgame.

Well, with the Philadelphia Phillies up three games to one, the fifth game in Philadelphia, at a ball park named after a questionable bank, the Tampa Bay Rays (they should be Rats) scored a tieing run in the top of the sixth inning to even the score at 2-2 when the game was called on account of rain.

It was then rescheduled for the following night, but when the rain continued, it was postponed again until tonight - Wednesday, two days after it began.

Stuck in a tie game and unplayable conditions, everyone was set in like a Twilight Zone.

Some Vegas casinos paid out the Phillies as winners as they were ahead in the last full inning, but some casinos are waiting on the final results.

The game will resume at 8:37 EST with Philadelphia batting in the bottom of the sixth inning, with three innings to play.

And I thought cricket was a long game.

This one has yet to play out after beginning three days ago.

Fate plays a hand,

Go Phillies!
