Charles Douglas Jackson and the Zapruder Film

Recommended Posts

I thought it might be worth taking a closer look at the man, C. D. Jackson, who purchased the Zapruder Film after the assassination of JFK.

Charles Douglas Jackson was born in New York City on 16th March 1902. After graduation from Princeton University in 1924, he joined the media industry. In 1931 he went to work with Henry Luce at Time Magazine. Influenced by the right-wing views of his employer, Jackson became President of the Council for Democracy.

During the Second World War Jackson served as special assistant to the Ambassador to Turkey before joining the OSS in 1943. The following year he was appointed Deputy Chief at the Psychological Warfare Division at Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF).

After the war, Jackson became Managing Director of Time-Life International. In 1948 Frank Wisner, who worked with Jackson in the OSS, was appointed as director of the Office of Special Projects. Soon afterwards it was renamed the Office of Policy Coordination (OPC). This became the espionage and counter-intelligence branch of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Wisner also established Operation Mockingbird, a program to influence the domestic American media. Wisner asked Philip Graham of the Washington Post to run the project within the newspaper industry. Jackson was also recruited and according to Deborah Davis (Katharine the Great): "By the early 1950s, Wisner 'owned' respected members of the New York Times, Newsweek, CBS and other communications vehicles."

Jackson became the publisher of Fortune Magazine and from 1951-52 he served as President of the Free Europe Committee. He also wrote speeches for Dwight Eisenhower during his presidential campaign. Jackson was rewarded in February 1953 by being appointed as Special Assistant to the President. This included the role of Eisenhower's liaison between the CIA and the Pentagon. According to the Eisenhower Library files in Abilene, Kansas, Jackson's "area responsibility was loosely defined as international affairs, cold war planning, and psychological warfare. His main function was the coordination of activities aimed at interpreting world situations to the best advantage of the United States and her allies and exploiting incidents which reflected negatively on the Soviet Union, Communist China and other enemies in the Cold War."

Jackson also took an active role in Operation Mockingbird. Documents released after his death show that Jackson was in contact with a CIA agent in Hollywood's Paramount Studios. This agent was involved in trying to influence the content of the films the company was making. The agent is not named by Jackson but Frances Stoner Saunders believes it was Carleton Alsop, a CIA agent employed by Frank Wisner. There is no doubt that Alsop was one of the CIA agents working at Paramount. However, Hugh Wilford argues that it was a senior executive at Paramount, Lugi G. Laraschi, was the most important CIA figure at the studio. Laraschi was the head of foreign and domestic censorship at the studio, whose job was to “iron out any political, moral or religious problems”. Other studios, including MGM and RKO, had similar officers, and were probably CIA placements. In a private letter to Sherman Adams, Jackson claims the role of these CIA placements was “to insert in their scripts and in their action the right ideas with the proper subtlety”.

In 1953 Jackson served on the Presidents' Committee on International Information Activities. The following year he was appointed as Special Assistant to President for International Affairs.

Jackson urged President Eisenhower to speak-out against Senator Joe McCarthy. He was probably influenced by McCarthy's attacks on CIA officials such as Frank Wisner and Cord Meyer. In Jackson's opinion McCarthy was damaging the anti-Communist cause with self serving and unstable behavior.

After the election of John F. Kennedy in 1960 Jackson left the White House and became publisher of Life Magazine. When Kennedy was assassinated, Jackson's Life Magazine purchased the Zapruder Film. Soon after the assassination they also successfully negotiated with Marina Oswald the exclusive rights to her story. This story never appeared in print. Jackson published individual frames of Zapruder's film but did not allow the film to be screened in its entirety.

Charles Douglas Jackson died on 18th September, 1964. On December 15, 1971, Jackson's widow gave his papers to the Dwight D. Eisenhower Library. These documents revealed that he had been working as a CIA agent since 1948.

According to Carl Bernstein, Jackson was "Henry Luce's personal emissary to the CIA". He also claimed that in the 1950s Jackson had arranged for CIA employees to travel with Time-Life credentials as cover. Does this include the CIA activities against Castro after the "Bay of Pigs".

David Lifton points out in The Great Zapruder Film Hoax (2004) that: "Abraham Zapruder in fact sold the film to Time-Life for the sum of $150,000 - about $900,000 dollars in today's money... Moreover, although Life had a copy of the film, it did little to maximize the return on its extraordinary investment. Specifically, it did not sell this unique property - as a film - to any broadcast media or permit it to be seen in motion, the logical way to maximize the financial return on its investment... A closer look revealed something else. The film wasn't just sold to Life - the person whose name was on the agreement was C. D. Jackson." Jackson published individual frames of Zapruder's film but did not allow the film to be screened in its entirety.

Soon after the assassination Jackson also successfully negotiated with Marina Oswald the exclusive rights to her story. Peter Dale Scott argues in his book Deep Politics and the Death of JFK (1996) that Jackson, on the urging of Allen Dulles, employed Isaac Don Levine, a veteran CIA publicist, to ghost-write Marina's story. Levine is an interesting figure. Born in Mozyr, Russia, Levine came to the United States in 1911. As a journalist he worked for The Kansas City Star, The New York Herald Tribune and The Chicago Daily News. In the 1930s he worked for the Hearst papers as a columnist. He edited the anti-communist magazine Plain Talk from 1946 till 1950, before joining the CIA front, Radio Free Europe. Levine also provided testimony to the House Un-American Activities Committee, in the case against Alger Hiss.

I am really surprised that everyone has ignored this thread. It is true that little has been written about C.D. Jackson but he seems to have played an important role in the cover-up. There is little about him on the web. However, SourceWatch does have a page on him:

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=C.D._Jackson

C.D. Jackson (Charles Douglas Jackson) served as Special Assistant to President Dwight D. Eisenhower from February 16, 1953 to March 31, 1954.

According to the Eisenhower Library files in Abilene, Kansas, C.D. Jackson's "area responsibility was loosely defined as international affairs, cold war planning, and psychological warfare. His main function was the coordination of activities aimed at interpreting world situations to the best advantage of the United States and her allies and exploiting incidents which reflected negatively on the Soviet Union, Communist China and other enemies in the Cold War."

"Jackson's background in psychological warfare during World War II [according to the finding aid to the C.D. Jackson Papers] prepared him for the task. As Special Assistant to the President, Jackson worked closely with the Psychological Strategy Board and the Operations Coordinating Board, and served as an official member of the latter. The PSB was authorized by President Harry S. Truman in June 1951 to coordinate activities which had previously been handled separately by the State Department and the Defense Department. The Deputy Secretary of Defense, the Under Secretary of State, and the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency comprised the Board. The PSB's efforts were not notably successful. Shortly after his inauguration President Eisenhower appointed a Committee on International Information Activities to study the matter. The group was referred to as the Jackson Committee after its chairman, William Jackson, although C.D. Jackson was also a member. The Committee recommended that the PSB be abolished and replaced by the OCB, which was accomplished in September 1953.In addition to the representatives from State, Defense and CIA who had served on the PSB, the OCB membership included the Director of the Foreign Operations Administration and the President's Special Assistant for Psychological Warfare. The Special Assistant for National Security Affairs and the Director of the United States Information Agency also were authorized to attend meetings."

"In addition to the numerous letters, cables, memoranda, reports, intelligence summaries and newspaper clippings can be found in this series. Correspondents include high level government officials such as Sherman Adams, Allen Dulles, Robert Cutler, Gordon Gray, Gabriel Hauge, James Hagerty, Henry Cabot Lodge, Walter Bedell Smith, Lewis Strauss, George Kennan, and Nelson Rockefeller. Material from PSB and OCB staff members and correspondence between Jackson and experts and consultants outside the federal government, such as Walter Rostow of MIT, is filed here, as well as correspondence from representatives of the following groups: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Voice of America, U.S. Information Agency, International Information Administration, Committee for Free Asia, Inc., Free World Congress, and World Veterans Federation. Although general public mail was received by PSB and OCB, administrative records in the third series indicate that most such correspondence was destroyed."

The 1990 University Publications of America Guide to President Dwight D. Eisenhower's Office Files, 1953-1961 (Part 1: Eisenhower Administration Files) has this to say about C.D. Jackson:

"An even better source for the propaganda and psychological warfare campaigns of the Cold War are the letters and memos in the C. D. Jackson files. Jackson, whom Eisenhower borrowed from Time-Life to serve directly under him in the White House as an idea man, was one of the most colorful figures in the administration. His brash advice on how to deal with the Soviets continued even after he left Washington in 1954 to return to the world of publishing. Eisenhower always took his suggestions seriously. The president's letters show that he used his relationship with Jackson as a means to goad the relatively conservative State Department toward a more dynamic course."

I have some additional info in regard to CD Jackson.

On Sept. 25th 1961, Barney and Betty Hill, were driving home from a weekend trip, when they believed they had encountered a UFO. It was not until a couple of years later, when they were having increasing anxiety problems, they decided to go to a top Boston Psychiatrist (from recommendations) that specialized in Regressive Hypnotherapy. He also happened to be a Military Psychiatrist in PTSD, Amnesia and Dissociative Disorders. They were put into a deep trance state and only then did they finally recall actually having an alien abduction. .These sessions, beginning in late1963, were once a week and lasted for six months. This coincidently began and coincided with JFK's assassination.

However, previous to this, the Hills had talked about their UFO sighting to several friends, some who were in the Air Force, stationed at Pease Air Force Base, near their home. Betty also began checking out UFO books from her local library...and then she began having recurring UFO type dreams, that were becoming more and more frightening. As she revealed her dreams to Barney, he began having much anxiety as well as medical problems.

In those library books, Betty read about a a Donald Kehoe,, a Retired Marine Major. He was the head of the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP) She contacted Mr Kehoe and .although NIACP received thousands of such claims each month, for some unknown reason the Hills were placed at the top, for immediate investigation. Mr Kehoe, then took a couple of other NICAP members to lunch and informed them of the Hills UFO encounter. They wanted to interview the Hills. One of them, wrote the Hills a letter for permission to visit with them...which they agreed to do so.

In their letter to the Hills, they were told that they were two serious minded men whose interest is in "verifying the origin of these vehicles according to existing scientific theory maintained by Hermann Oberth." Oberth was of V-2 rocket fame.

These two men turned out to be ROBERT HOHMAN and CD JACKSON.. They met with the Hills on Oct, 24, 1961., just about a month after their UFO encounter. In addition, a close friend. of the Hills, ..an Air Force Major with Military Intelligence, by the name of James McDonald. just happened to show up at their home, on the same day..They all arrived around noon and stayed for 12 hours and left around midnight.

CD Jackson claimed to be a "senior engineer" for a "notable electronics company" They did not reveal their actual place of employment.

They were supposedly working on a paper about extra-terrestrial contacts that Nikola Tesla, David Todd and Marconi were alleged to have experienced in the early part of the century.

The Hills had discussed the case many times with Major McDonald. But although they hadn't mentioned it to anyone else, Barney claimed to have seen men in the glass window if the UFO. They did tell the three men about this.

At this meeting, the Hills heard for the first time, they seemed to have a couple of hours of missing time. They had not previously even realized that.Throughout out the meeting, they were fully questioned and much was brought up that they had not even thought about before. Many seeds were planted in their minds at that meeting. It was also suggested at this meeting, they be hypnotized. Yet, it was some time before they actually did so

Why was a major electronics firm

paying them Hohman and Jackson, to investigate 60-year-old fairy tales a- bout Nikola Tesla? What "scientific theories" held by Hermann Oberth could be of interest to an "electronics firm."

What we actually appear to here is a "cover" for intelligence activity. IN ALIENS FROM SPACE, 1973, Keyhoe says that these two "engineers" were "aiding NICAP." That is not the impression that is given in Fuller's book. In INTER- RUPTED JOURNEY the strong impression was that these two gentlemen simply had an independent interest due to a strange research assignment from their company.

By the fall of 1963, C.D. Jackson was working for Time/Life Corporation in an executive position. In fact, he was helping to arrange a $25,000 payment to the widow of Lee Harvey Oswald. Jackson was involved in the Eisnehower era in Psychlogical Warfare and Propagamnda. Plus all the UFO type groups were very infiltrated with CIA and MIlitary Intelligence. It is believed he had been in the CIA, since the 1940's.

Donald Keyhoe , with NICAP, was a UFO searcher running a two-track operation. In the public and with his organization he was not interested in "contactee" stories. But on deep background he was involved with another investigation, one connected with the intelligence community.

For the most part, the Hills claims have been regarded as truthfull. They were quite intelligent, had good jobs and were well regarded in their community Barney was a Postal Worker and Betty was a Welfare Worker.Yet they were also an Interracial couple and both were much involved in Civil Rights. In addtition, they belonged to a Universalist Church.

However, iT is believed by many, (including

myself) that the Hills were victims of a Psychiological Mind Control Experiment. ...and they fit the target criteria in various aspects.

Many years later, in 1990, a writer was writing about the Hills and also believing in the Psychological mind control aspect. She sent Betty Hill a series of letters for confirmation in regard to certain facts. She also asked her about her previous meeting with CD Jackson. By this time,, it had been known who he actually was. Below is a portion of Betty's reply back to that writer. I am not sure what to make of it though...especially since CD Jackson actually died in 1864.

conclusions, which are in error. As for Ho- man and C D Jackson, they were research scientists, working at top level government jobs. Their HOBBY was ufos.

As a job protection for them, we agreed not to release their employment, altho it was well known to us. C D Jackson was never associated with Time/Life. We had continuing contacts with them. Jackson, in 1966, was still working in Alabama, at the same employment.

I agree with John Simkin that C.D. Jackson is a very interesting figure, and wonder why there is not more interest in him, given his role with Time-Life in

obtaining legal control of both the Z-film and the story of Marina Oswald... and then sitting on them.

I think about C.D. lots, usually when humidity rises above 11%.

Here is this excerpt from Kenneth Osgood's Total Cold War: Eisenhower's Secret Prpaganda Battle at Home and Abroad (2006, University of Kansas

Press) ------

General eisenhower created a Psychological Warfare Branch (PWB) to particiapate in the Allied invasion of North Africa. The

PWB, a joint Anglo-American organization run by General robert McClure and C. D. Jakckson, began as a small outfit consisting

of some forty-seven journalists, advertising professionals, OWI and OSS recruits, and British officers. Apparent successes in

inducing enemy surreneders helped to win over formerly suspicious commanders, and by the end of the North African Campaign

the PWB had grown to nearly a thousand men. Psychological warfare planning was incresingly integrated with military operations

planning.(p. 31)

Osgood describes C.D. Jackson as in the "Rollback" camp re: Eastern Europe. Hence some writers seem to see a break in 1954 when

Nelson Rockefeller replaces C.D. Jackson; Rockefeller's main area of interest was Latin America. However, other writers emphasize more

continuity, noting that Neslon served as an advisor to Jackson and that the two were friends.

It should also be mentioned that Jackson worked for Henry Luce before WWII began, serving as Luce's first editor in charge of Life Magazine

in 1938, if memory serves.

Later Osgood, summs up Jackson's ties between the Eisenhower Admin. and the press:

Jackson's senior position in Luce's media empire provided the administration witha nother asset on the public relations front,

as eisenhower could count on Time-Life publications to sell his Cold War policies ot the American public and the wider

readership abroad. Jackson wrote dozens of letters to Luce, funneling behind-the -scenes details about the inner workings

of the administration and and peddling astory ideas that furhtered the intersts of the administration's Cold War priorirties. He

also maintained a broader network of contracts with journalists, adertisers, business leaders, and non-governmental organisations,

and he called on them repeatedly to contribute to his psychological wargare initiatives. Jackson remained in the WHite House

for just over a year before retruning to Time-Life--Henry Luce insisted that he return-- but he continued to advise the president

throughout Eisenhower's two terms, frequeantly frining off memos, cranking out ideas, and making suggestions for new psychological

warfare campaigns. (p.82-83)

Osgood describes Jackson as more of an "idea man" than Nelson Rockefeller, who put his poeple on it, all of them.

More to follow but on another note, has anyone heard of one of C.D. Jackson's proteges named Crhistian Ravndal, who became US ambassador

to Ecuador. Colby and Dennett describe him as a "top Cold War opperative" in their book Thy Will Be Done:" Radndalcame to Washington from

Eastern Europe in 1954 a the request of Nelson's friend and predecessor as presidential speacial assistant on Cold War Propaganda, C.D. Jackson.

Ravndal 'understands and uses psychological warfare better than practialy any other Ambassador I have ever met, ' said Jackson.

He has been particularly helfull to Radio Free Europe' Now he was being helpfull to Cam {Townsend, founder of Wycliffe Bible Translators].

Ravndal's brother led the successful fund drive that enabled JAARS to buy the Catalina amphibian" (p. 321, Thy Will Be Done:The Conquest of the Amazon: Neson Rockefeller and Evangelism In the Age of Oil)

I have to agree, especially considering the current domination of the forum by members contributing opinions and information related to the authenticity of the Zapruder film, that there is not more interest in digging up as much of the background of the man who had the role of attempting (successfully, for more than a decade....) to hide the actual film from the public, almost immediately after it was shot and developed.

JFK certainly was "hemmed in", leading up to his assassination. The most prominent Washington news publisher publicly accused JFK of having the ex-wife of Cord Meyer Jr. as his principle mistress, his closest aid, Sorenson, is described below as sleeping at the time with a CIA asset recruited and paid by Cord Meyer and CD Jackson. I've documented in other threads that from late 1960 to March 1963, the JFK family spent most weekends on the estate in VA owned by the mother of Ernest Byfield Jr., the decade long boss of Henry Crown of General Dynamics' 1960 executive hire, Patrick H. Hoy. Byfield's white Russian wife had been married previously to a prominent minister in the fascist Franco Spanish government, and her sister was married to Placido Eversun, the first cousin and business partner of B. Rionda Braga, Cuban sugar magnate whose Cuban mills and plantations were confiscated by Castro. George HW Bush would later walk his late friend's (Edward G. Hooker) daughter down the wedding aisle and into the arms of Braga's son, Ames..... J. Edgar Hoover was withholding from the WC, FBI reports that described a 1962 break in, witnessed by two of his SA, of Judith Campbell's LA apartment by the twin sons of former FBI SA, IB Hale, head of General Dynamic's security in Fort Worth, TX. Hoover's agents had gotten the tag number of their car as they drove away from Campbell's apartment after the break-in the agents had witnessed.

The LNs will all tell you that, all of the above, just as McCloy, Dulles, Warren, Ford, and Jenner just happening to be on the WC, the quick purchase and shelving out of view, of the Zapruder film by C.D. Jackson was another coincidence, an individual act performed out of sensitivity to the JFK family, and to provide Abe Zapruder with a windfall reward for just happening to be in the right place, at the right time. Of course, Henry Brunie's Empire Trust hire, Jack Crichton's presence in the motorcade filmed by Zapruder that day in Dallas, was also just another in an implausibly long line of coincidences. Probably just a group of friends united by a passion for tennis, who later in life happened to decide that they had to put their loyalty to their country's "Operation Paper Clip" enhanced, cold war policy, above the continuance in office of the President of the United States.

The Chairman: John J. McCloy, the Making of the American Establishment - Page 483-484

(Thanks to Daniel Brandt...) http://www.umsl.edu/~thomaskp/pfp.htm

"In the summer of 1959, just before McCloy took his fam- ily for an extended trip to Eu- rope, C.D. Jackson wrote to remind McCloy that later that sunnner a World Youth Fes- tival was scheduled to take place in Vienna. Jackson asked McCloy to contribute an article, perhaps on the "be- nign and constructive as- pects" of the U.S. occupation of Germany. The piece would appear in a daily newspaper to be published in Vienna in conjunction with the festival. McCloy agreed, and the ar- ticle was published (in five languages) in a newspaper distributed by a twenty-five- year-old Smith graduate named Gloria Steinem.

"McCloy's connection to Steinem went beyond contrib- uting an article to the propa- ganda operation of which she was an editor in Vienna. Late in 1958, he and Jackson had discussed how the United States should respond to the expected Soviet propaganda blitz in Vienna. Previous gath- erings of this kind had always been held in Moscow, East Berlin, or other cities in East- ern Europe. These events were major propaganda cir- cuses, and the CIA was deter- niined, in the words of Cord Meyer, a career CIA officer, 'to compete more effectively with this obviously successftil Communist apparatus.'

"Washington expected some twenty thousand stu- dents and young scholars from all over the world to con- verge on Vienna that summer for the three weel festival. Consequently, the CIA wanted an organized student presence in Vienna in order to counter Soviet propaganda.

"C.D. Jackson recognized the Vienna Youth Festival as 'an extremely important event in the Great Game.' He explained, 'This is the first time commies have held one of these shindigs on our side of the iron curtain; and what goes on, how it goes on, and what the follow-up will be is, I think, extremely important.'

"By the time Jackson first approached McCloy, in the autumn of 1958, he and Cord Meyer, head of the CIA's Interna- tional Organizations division (I0), had a plan. The Agency would provide discreet funding to an 'informal group of activists' who would constitute themselves as an alternative American delegation to the fes- tival. The CIA would not only pay their way but also assist them to distribute books and publish a newspaper in Vienna. Among other individuals, Jackson and Meyer hired Gloria Steinem to work with them. Steinem had recently returned from a two-year stint in India, where she had been a Chester Bowles Asian Fellow.

"'I came home in 1958,' Steinem later explained, 'full of idealism and activism, to discover that very little was being done. ... Private money receded at the men- tion of a Communist youth festival.' Convinced that a contingent of liberal but anticommunist American students should go to Vienna, she heard through her con- tacts at the National Student Association that there might be funding available to finance American participation in the fes- tival. Working through C.D. Jackson and Cord Meyer, Steinem then set up an or- ganization in Cambridge, Massachusetts called the Independent Service for Infor- mation on the Vienna Youth Festival. She obtained tax-exempt status, and Jackson helped her raise contributions from vari- ous American corporations, including the American Express Company. But most of the money came from the CIA, to be managed by Jackson in a 'special ac- count.' The entire operation cost in the range of $85,000, a not inconsiderable sum in those years. (Steinem's or- ganization, later renamed the Independent Research Service, continued to receive support from the CIA through 1962, when it financed an American delegation to the Helsinki Youth Festival.) Steinem ended up working closely with Samuel S. Walker, Jr., vice-president of the CIA- funded Free Europe Committee. Because the Austrians did not want to be associ- ated with the Free Europe Committee, the Agency set up a commercial front called the Publications Development Corpora- tion (PDC). Walker was made president of this dummy corporation, funded in part by 'a confidential one-year contract' worth $273,000 from the Free Europe Committee. His job was to super- vise the book-and-newspaper operation at the Youth Festival. . .

Oswald at some point had it said about him, or said it himself, that he had multiple post office boxes as he moved so much that he didn't inform persons/groups of his home address, which was constantly changing, but rather used the post office and its internal forwarding service to make sure his mail reached him irrespectively.

After the assassination, his PO box in Dealey Plaza was monitored 24 hours a day, partly by Ruby, and no doubt others, (the DMH for example would only have to have someone look out the window), but mostly by Harry D. Holmes (USPO-PI, FBI DA-T7, poss ONI, (ring side box for the fireworks 11/22/63)) and his confederates.

About a week after the assassination, contrary to the statement re redirection of mail, Harry finds a copy of Time addressed to Oswalds box, ie not redirected, > with a renewal slip <. IOW he must have informed Time of his new PO Box in this instance. Not only does it show an inconsistency to explain, but it also shows that Oswald made it very possible for Time to track his movements should they have a reason to do so.

(edit : ps and Harry was one of the first to 'thumb through, frame by frame, a just made copy of the pre break Z film, that night in fact, with (FBI) Sorrell (from memory) (he also had Bell film from his office after the assasination, ending with a lingering shot of Harrys' curtain/blind draw string and with the fifth floor of the Dallas Court House in the background). )

I have a dumb question on this subject, just to get up to snuff?? How many copies of the Zapruder film were supposedly made, and who all did it change hands through before becoming public?

get up to snuff? Always heard that as 'getting up to par'

offically: 1 in-camera double 8mm original Kodak film AND 3 optical film prints of the alleged aforementioned Zapruder in-camera original double 8mm Kodak film. Printed a Jamison Film Dallas ALL processed at Kodak Dallas

reality: who knows how many prints, perhaps hundreds....

Simply, there is no chain of evidence document for the in-camera Zapruder film, for that matter the 3 optical prints of same... who knows who possessed or handled them

There's been books and hundreds of articles on the subject, some authors are on this board... Google is your friend

Interesting that the Wikipedia entry for C. D. Jackson does not mention buying the Zapruder Film and his negotiations with Marina Oswald for the exclusive rights to her story. Peter Dale Scott argues in his book Deep Politics and the Death of JFK (1996) that Jackson, on the urging of Allen Dulles, employed Isaac Don Levine, a veteran CIA publicist, to ghost-write Marina's story. This story never appeared in print.

David, Craig? Is it possible to copy an undeveloped 8mm film ? If so how true would that copy be and how long would the process take?

Other coincidences are that in 1964, Anthony A. Lapham married Burk Bingham, cousin of Jock Whitney. Henry R. Breck was not a member of Lapham's wedding party; not unusual since Breck and Lapham had not attended prep school (Groton v. Phillips Andover) college (Harvard v. Yale) or law school together (Oxford v. Georgetown).

However, by 1973, as you can read in the article image of the wedding of Douglas A. McCrary's daughter Wendy and Henry R. Breck, Breck had become so close to Lapham that Breck is the godfather of Lapham's son, Nicholas, and Anthony Lapham is Breck's best man.

The two men did not serve in the same branch of the military and the CIA's descriptions of their careers do not overlap, up to 1973, in any way.

I don't know what C D Jackson arranged with Marina (via Isaac Don Levine) but, as events played out, Marina made her contract with Priscilla McMillan. I forget the details of how Priscilla McMillan out manuevered Levine (et al); I think it was a matter of her just flying down to Teas, knocking on Marina's door, getting to now her, etc.

However it happened, Priscilla ended up getting the exclusive contract with marina, worked with her intensively, and the book was published in 1977.
