Robert Howard posted some information here:

http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=7209&view=findpost&p=214578

There is also another Hoover, named Lillie Mae Hoover who factors somewhat into the checkstub allegedly found in Oswald's possession, that belonged to James Jackson.

See below

HOOVER, LILLIE MAE (MRS.) Sources: CD 206, p. 119 Mary's Comments: Owned 214 W. Neely and sold it to M. W. George on 11/14/62.

On December 30, 1963 M.W. George, Tucker-Manning Insurance, 5651 North Central Expressway, advised that he is currently the owner of the property located at 214 W. Neeley St., Dallas, having acquired this property on November 14, 1962. This property was previously owned by Lillie Mae Hoover, 212 West Neeley, who left for Florida after selling the property

which is a duplex building with the address of both 212 and 214 West Neeley, to Mr. George.

Mr George advised that Mrs. Hoover does not have any known relatives in Dallas, Texas, and has no idea of what her present address is.

Mr George advised that his rental records do not show that a Mr. James A. Jackson resided at 214 W. Neeley, Dallas, Texas since he acquired the property on November 14, 1962.

Mr George believes this would indicate that Mr Jackson lived at 214 W. Neeley St., when the property was owned by Mrs. Hoover.

Robert: The Mr. Jackson in question, Mr. James A Jackson is noteworthy for his usage of Social Security Number 465-50-6916, which was not his Social Security Number. In Warren Commission document 206:118, he states his Social Security Number is 465-54-6916. He was advised that he should not use 465-50-6916, as it was assigned to another person. Jackson's explanation of the Social Security Number issue, was that, "This mixup occurred while he was in the Armed Forces or shortly after he got out, when he first went to work for American Bakery Co." He was an employee of American Bakery Company, 2301 South Ervay Street, and had lived at 214 West Neely Street, where he had lived for about nine months

and thereafter moved to 701 North Boulevard Terrace until July 1963, when he and his wife separated. Jackson said he had no idea how Lee Harvey Oswald came into possession

of a paycheck stub, which apparently belonged to him, but that it was possible, but that he might have accidentaly dropped this checkstub on the street, and someone could have picked it up, but he did not recall ever losing one. On December 30, 1963, Mr. M. W. George, Tucker-Manning Insurance Co., 5651 North Central Expressway advised that he is currently the owner of the property located at 214 West Neely, having acquired this property on November 14, 1962. This property was previously owned by Mrs. Lillie Mae Hoover, 212 West Neely, who left for Florida immediately after selling the property which is a duplex building with the address of both 212 and 214 West Neely, to Mr. George. The point of my post is to point out a possible connection between Lillie Mae Hoover of Florida, formerly of Dallas, Texas who moved to Florida after she sold the Neely St. property, could be related to Margaret Kathryn Hoover of 105 South Walnut St., Martinsburg, Pennsylvania, whose brother was Robert Steele

Thanks Mike,

Isn't that interesting? I know in the past, researchers have tried to discern some intelligence angle in relation to Oswald having this years old stub. But I have a different view of it. Oswald was said to have denied ever living at Neely St and one of the pieces of evidence placing him there was found during the same (possibly unnecessary) search that produced planted shells and a planted bus transfer.

This doc states that a pay stub was found during a search of the Neely St apartment:

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=57760&relPageId=182

Was this just an error of the author (did he actually mean to say one was found on Oswald?), or was this a second pay stub?

I know on the surface, there seems to be a lot of evidence to say the O's did live there... but how thin is it?

This pay stub.

The say so of Marina, the Paine's and the DeM's.

The BY photos

A photo showing June on the Neely St porch. If the BY photos were faked, why couldn't this have been?

Which brings me back to the owner/s of the apartment... what is known of them? Were they interviewed?

As far as I can see, it's nearly as thin as the evidence he stayed at the Bledsoe residence... but I'd be happy to see more evidence is such exists.

....Where's proof of the rent Payments?

Why wasn't he interviewed?

I'm cognizant of the fact that it is starting to look like I believe nothing that the WC found as a fact.

But the bigger the lie, the easier it is to sell. And to make it easier, you have the one person who can dispute all these things murdered, you have rigged or misguided committees of inquiry, and a very compliant media. What could go wrong?

And it looks like I'm not the first to have these suspicions about Neely St.

Mrs W Williams, 220 West Neely had resided at that address since March 1st,1963 and was unable to recognize a photo of Oswald or Ruby as she "had never seen either man".

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=95675&relPageId=52

The putative owner of the apartment claimed that the apartment had been padlocked straight after the Oswald's moved out, but that he felt someone with a key had been entering over the past two months (which would be Sept and Oct '63) . He was unable to think of any reason why anyone would do that. He also stated that he had thoroughly cleaned the apartment after the Oswald's moved (recall the report that stated that an America Bakery Co pay slip had been found in a search of the apartment and/or on Oswald after the assassination... )

But the real capper is the information received from Mr and Mrs Marvin Friddle who were close neighbors of 214 West Neely St. The Friddles told the FBI that they didn't know Oswald AND that for a short time during April and May, a young couple and their TWO children had occupied the top apartment at 214 West Neely. They knew this because they "used to see him, his wife and CHILDREN around the house and on the upstairs balcony.

Greg:

If he did not live here, where did he live then?

Jim, that's the same as asking if he didn't ride the bus, how'd he get to Oak Cliff. The answer is "by some other means".

The answer to your question is the same. It's not my obligation to provide an alternative address. If the evidence weighs in favor of not having lived on W. Neely, then he lived somewhere else. The blogger linked to earlier provides one possible address. My best guess however, would be Oswald stayed in a safe house while Marina and child were baby sat by one of the WR community.

Quick review of some of the main points:

The owner was not called to give testimony, despite the comparative importance of Oswald's alleged stay there.

One of the pieces of evidence placing Oswald there was the pay stub found at the same time as the (planted) bus transfer and which belonged to a former resident of 214 W. Neely. However, a document exists which states the pay stub was found in the apartment.

No rental records were obtained by any of the investigating authorities.

No neighbors recognized Oswald from photos as anyone they recalled. One couple actually had little doubt that the apartment was occupied during the relevant period by a couple with two kids - which rules the Oswald's out.

Oswald himself apparently denied ever living there - despite living there in and of itself, having not much bearing on the authenticity of the BY photos.

The owner, for reasons not given, claims to have padlocked the apartment after it was vacated back in May and that he had cleaned it up at that time. He further claimed some unknown party had been gaining access for unknown reasons in the months leading up to the assassination.

There is no doubt (in my mind at least), that Marina never took any BY photos - that the one photo she took was in Minsk with Oswald holding his shotgun above his head.

The most puzzling part of Marina's Nixon story was that she locked Lee in the bathroom, seemingly forgetting that the bathroom locked from the inside. I say she didn't forget. She simply didn't know - and the reason she didn't know was because they never actually lived there.

It's a bit of a weird one for me, Greg. The fact that it was claimed Oswald denied living there always appeared to me to be the DPD trying to expose Oswald's flailing attempts to distance himself from the backyard photos. Strictly a case of "look at this weirdo, we've got photos of him standing in the garden of this property with the murder weapon and he's denying ever lived there."

There is the letter that Marina allegedly sent to Ruth Paine that was written on March 4, but not posted until March 8 that suggests that they did actually move there:

http://www.aarclibrary.org/publib/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh17/html/WH_Vol17_0054a.htm

Marina stated that they moved by pushing their belongings around the corner in a baby stroller but Mr. George B. Gray stated they were moved in by a woman driving a white station wagon. If this was Ruth Paine, then why would Marina have to send her directions in a letter?

There is so much more that really doesn't make very much sense to me, some of which you have highlighted above.

For instance; Oswald was allegedly asked to move from the Elsbeth apartment by the owner, Mr JUREK, because he was arguing with his wife and this information was initially furnished by the Elsbeth Building Supervisor Mr. Manny Tobias. The weird thing is the interview was conducted by the Postal Inspection Service (and we all know what, and who, that means):

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=10697&relPageId=3

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=10697&relPageId=4

However, Oswald never requested his $5 deposit back that he was due on the Elsbeth property from the Tobiases and instead just moved out and into the Neely Street apartment around the corner. This would be the first time Oswald would walk away from money that belonged to him, the second occasion would be with Mrs. Bledsoe. Getting deposits back usually bring with them evidence of the exchange taking place, in the form of a receipt or a check, and so if something is fishy about the dates of occupation of these premises it makes sense to have Oswald just walking away from his own, much needed, money. Jurek, in his FBI statement (linked below) searched for the check deposit being refunded, and he says even though Oswald handed his key in, there was no evidence that the $5 was refunded:

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=10406&relPageId=245

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=10406&relPageId=246

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=10406&relPageId=247

According to the JUREK statement (above) Oswald was also leaving behind his obligatory "I'm a communist, and a complete idiot" evidence that would act like a trail of breadcrumbs. JUREK when he entered the Elsbeth apartment after the Oswald's left, said that it had been "pretty well cleaned out" but he did find a card that had something like "Friends of Cuba" or "Fair Play for Cuba" on it.

Similar to when the FBI went into the Neely Street apartment on 11/24/63 and found a match book and a piece of yellow lined tablet paper with writing in English and Russian written on it. Even though the owner said he'd completely cleaned the place out and then went on to rent to other people, after the assassination, MORE THAN SEVEN MONTHS LATER, there is this letter found in the linen closet. Wow!

The Dallas Power and Light Company still had Oswald down as renting 604 Elsbeth because they were still billing him until the end of April (23/4/63) for his gas and electricity, although the actual bills are not in the CD's and this information is simply typed into an FBI report. So how accurate they are is anyone's guess but he was still being charged for $2.16 worth of Gas and Electric AFTER he had moved out, so there was someone in that apartment using power that was still on Oswald's DPLC account number for the Elsbeth property:

http://www.aarclibrary.org/publib/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh22/html/WH_Vol22_0118b.htm

http://www.aarclibrary.org/publib/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh22/html/WH_Vol22_0119a.htm

Mrs. Marion JUREK, then went on in her statement with the FBI to state that she found Russian papers in the apartment two or three days after they moved out:

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=10406&relPageId=248

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=10406&relPageId=249

The most disturbing aspect of this is the statement of M. W. George, the owner of Neely Street. In his statement he claims that Oswald didn't rent the property until April 1st and stayed there until May 31st. April 1st is the day that Oswald gave his employers at Jagger Chiles Stovall a new mailing address of PO Box 2915:

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?mode=searchResult&absPageId=693653

In the link above, George states that he completely cleaned the property out once the Oswald's left, so it's strange that a Russian letter was found in the linen closet two days AFTER the assassination.

He was then interviewed (below link) again and changed the dates of occupation and leaving from April 1st-May 31st to March 2nd-May 1st.

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=57698&relPageId=51

There is something incredibly strange regarding Oswald's residence, across the board.

Excellent...this is lots of good new research.

Thanks for the kind words, Martin.

A few thoughts/comments following on from Lee's post.

A look at the MF chronology for March reveals other evidence the Oswald's did stay there (a letter from Lee to Robert and connection of utilities)

http://www.maryferre...0&relPageId=162

On that basis, I'd have to concede that on balance, it's swaying in favor of the official record.

That doesn't mean I'm entirely satisfied. Apart from issues raised by Lee...

The owner is listed with 3 different names: "M.W. George", "W. Waldo George" and "Jim W. George". What's with that?

The letter to Ruth looks a little odd with two different sized pieces of paper, and both pieces looks uncreased. I'd like to know what information is on each sheet.

Haven't yet had a chance to look at George Gray's statement.

There is a smorgasbord of start and end dates for the Oswald's stay given in various documents ranging from early March through the end of May. One document gives the start date of April 1. Another document gives this as the date Oswald paid his second lot of rent.

That April start date, with a May end date is actually compatible with the statement of the Friddle's who didn't recognize photo's of Oswald and claimed a couple with two kids lived there during APRIL and MAY.

Is it possible that the Oswald's moved in at the start of March, but had moved out prior to April, with another couple moving in after that?

Obviously also concerned about the alleged break-ins of the apartment during the September - November time-frame. If I recall, the BY photos were determined to have been taken in March because of the state or look of the garden? Is it possible they were actually taken during the September - November period? Alternatively, could photos of the garden have been found in the apartment dating back to March and these used in fabricating the photos?

Oh - and am still concerned about the Nixon story. It's possible - but unlikely imo, that Marina would make up a story that deliberately included an element that could disprove the whole account.

The combination of sensible possibilities would seem to be limited to:

The story is essentially true, but she exaggerated it, forgetting that the bathroom locked from the inside

The story is false and she forgot about the bathroom locking from the inside

The story is false and she didn't know about the door locking from the inside because she never lived there.

Wow!

I came across a document which said a letter in Russian had been found suggesting the possibility of a separation soon. It went on to say that they suspected further correspondence might arrive for Marina and as a result, they kept a close eye on the PO Box for several days following the assassination. I took this as possibly an early attempt at understanding the so-called walker letter -- but now I'm not so sure. MF's chronology suggests the writing was in Old Russian - meaning it was not written by anyone young. MF suggested Jeanne DeM.

There is also another Hoover, named Lillie Mae Hoover who factors somewhat into the checkstub allegedly found in Oswald's possession, that belonged to James Jackson.

M. W. Thanks Michael, Robert and Greg,

So can we try to answer Robert's question - is there a connection between Lillie Mae Hover of Florida, formerly of Dallas, and former owner of Neely St. property, related to Mrs. Margaret Kathryn Hoover of 105 South Walnut, St., Martinsburg, Pa., whose brother was Robert Steele?

I actually engaged in a telephone conversation with Mrs. Margaret K. Hoover when I was in college and read the WC report, but didn't know of the Neeley Street Hoover until now.

She told me that she was separated from her husband, who lived nearby. They had leased their old home to Julio Fernandez, Sr., a Cuban refugee who taught Spanish at the local high school. Julio Fernandez, Jr. was an art student at Penn State college. She discovered a trailer advertisement in her yard that had the names "Ruby" and "Lee Oswald" written on it, and suspected they were women her husband was seeing, and showed it to her daughter. They then realized that it came from Fernandez's back yard, where he was burning papers in a fire and wasn't connected to her husband. Mrs. Hover's brother, Steele, went to the Pa. State Police with the story and the FBI interviewed Fernandez, who said that he was a former Cuban journalist, as was his wife, and they were anti-Castro Cubans and anti-Communists. Among the half-burned records Fernandez had tried to burn, was an August, 1963 train ticket that Fernandez said his son used to attend a conference of Cuban journalists at the University of Miami (aka JMWAVE).

While her husband to the FBI that his ex-wife was crazy, the daughter confirmed that "Ruby" and "Lee Oswald" were written on the trailer ad, and the brother is the one who decided to go to the cops with the story, and having personally talked with her over the phone, I believe her.

Although it is Julio Fernandez who is the primary suspect here, for him to live in Hoover's house in Martinsburg middle of nowhere Pennsylvania, he had to have a connection with Hoover before he moved there, so it would certainly be interesting if the former owner of Neeley Street apartment was related in any way to the Hoover who rented Julio Fernandez his house in remote, rural Pennsylvania.

Even if there is no direct connection between the two Hoover landlords, the whole scenario deserves being looked at more closely.

And I agree with Jack White, thanks for the new research.

Much appreciated.

It seems significant that they did not record the afadavit of Mr. George until six months and twenty days after LHO denied living at the Neely St. apartment "owned" by Mr. George.:

Later that day I met the individual who identified himself as Lee H. Oswald.

The reason I am posting this is because I see something that smells. At the time M. Waldo George is telling the FBI and the WC that he works as office manager for Tucker-Manning Insurance offices of Dallas, the FBI is sitting on a 1962 report that it never released to the WC. The report states that FBI agents got the license number in a summer 1962 LA stakeout of a Chevy Corvette registered to IB Hale of Dallas, driven by one of two young men just observed leaving an apartment leased by Johnny Roselli and occupied by Judith Exner. The two young men had earlier been observed by the FBI illegally entering that aparment when the occupants were not present.

Considering the following, how much of a stretch would it be to suspect that the FBI had leaned on IB Hale to use his or his best friend, Davey O'Brien's contacts with Sammy Baugh and or Harry Shurford himself to advise M. Waldo George what he was to tell the WC about his dealings with LHO?

Shurford was married to a woman who had two brothers, and an ex-husband who owned the Insurance agency Mr. George was employed by, and has a son who currently is its counsel.

The origins of the Tucker family can be traced to Oklahoma state senator Frederick Edward Tucker. Of Tucker's three children, only Gordon, age 79, seems to be living.:
