  1. I am happy to provide 30GB Bandwidth per month/1GB Disk Space to host the Education Forum. It will come with a whole load of other features, email accounts and so on. PM me if you want more details!
  2. Both - students will loan them from the College for the duration of their advanced courses Hi, What sort of 'security reasons' has the network manager told you about? I know off lots of schools which loan laptops to students and allow the use of Internet. Although from an IT Technician point of view I can see his concerns. How do you plan to allow Internet access to the students at home? Will the student be allowed to use there own broadband etc? What if the pupil does not have Internet access at home will you be providing an ISP for them with dialup access - What about the costs? Within school there is 2 options: Wired or Wireless - both having there pro's & con's. Do use have a wireless network in place at all now? With wired - Do you have available network points available in the area's needed? Network cabling and Wireless networking is a very expensive job You also have the problem outside of school with regarding controlling what the the pupils are accessing, more money for filtering etc.
  3. What amount of bandwidth does the forum use in one month?
  4. Hi Andy, Where will the laptops be used? Inside or outside of school?
  5. The information about school's downloading website's is rubbish! What they may have in place is a caching server this automatically saves websites locally when a site is accessed it gets the main parts from the cache and new information from the website server. There is no reason they a school would need to download a website especially a forum, They would be no point downloading a forum due to the simple fact it uses a database and there is no way to download this database where the information has been held. I am very surprised Invision have not actually took some sort of legal action themselves considering it is there network/server and i assume other customers will be using the same server this forum is hosted on thus effecting there uptime. Invision are becoming a real pain with all these updates, not sure if you know but this forum is actually out of date again
  6. Hi Andy, I am afraid you are wrong. Moodle WILL be at BETT!!! This is a total contradication to my post, this shows why our initiave deserves support not putdowns.
  7. What we are trying to do The BETT Show is the biggest event of its kind in the world. Once a year for 4 days, almost 30,000 educationalists from all over Europe attend the show to seek inspiration and innovation from the vast array of educational products on display. We believe that Moodle should be represented at the BETT show. We want to promote Moodle as the first choice learning platform for UK schools, by presenting it as a viable, and we would argue preferable, alternative to the commercial learning platforms on show at BETT. To do this we will host a stand ourselves, and in the meantime demonstrate what a community of dedicated users and developers of open source software can achieve. We believe that ours is a unique initiative in the History of BETT, in that we are the users of the software, with no financial interest in the product. We see our role as informing others about its potential to transform learning. Such is our passion to tell others, that in order to have a stand at the BETT show, we are giving freely of our time and expertise and hope that others can help us to find the funds to support this. Why we are trying to do it As Moodle is open source software, schools using it have a flexible and powerful tool that can be extended to meet all their e-learning needs. It also promotes a genuinely collaborative approach to learning, is easy to administer and use, and, best of all, is free. Yes, free. Entirely free. What’s more, Moodle benefits from having a wider installed base, as its users contribute to making Moodle what it is. This collaboration is no more in evidence than this very intitiative. The whole HelpUsGetToBETT initiative was founded within the Moodle community, with decisions arrived at through the consensus of us volunteers. Tools such as Wikis, Forums and Blogs have facilitated the team’s decision making, despite the fact that members live all over the world. We hope this initiative will serve as an inspiration to others as to the how technology can be harnessed to serve the common good. How are we going to do it We’re giving our time and expertise for free, as our way of saying thanks for how Moodle has transformed learning in our schools. Unfortunately, BETT aren’t giving us the stand for free, so we need your money to help us promote this software. We’d also like lots of existing Moodlers to come and help on the stand. This is no small undertaking, and as a result it reinforces the Team’s commitment to Moodle. We are looking for support from the rest of the Moodle community in order to HelpUsGetToBETT. This support can range from offering services or time to complete tasks, helping to man the stands, or sending money to help us pay for the stand. What we expect to happen as a result after taking Moodle to BETT We expect teachers, advisors and other members of the educational community to sit up and take notice of Moodle and, by trying it for themsleves, they will see that this is a truly exceptional tool. We’ll be giving away installable copies of Moodle on the stand, and expect there to be queues round the block for these discs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hope i am ok to post this here, i feel this forum could benefit a lot to HUGTOB (Help Us Get to BETT) It really does deserve to win the award! More information can be found at: http://www.helpusgettobett.com Thanks,
  8. Such as real shame! ICT can be really good in MFL lessons Blocked sites can be removed by consulting the ICT Support Dept normally. Also we have a new easier site address: www.testing-ground.com . I will also soon be introducing my own Moodle Hosting at very low price's for education. With full Support, Setup & Maintenance.
  9. This may be intrest to any schools/teachers etc: Hope this helps

    Google Talk

I installed it to 'test out' I very much doubt its going to take off such as MSN, Yahoo etc. I didnt know i could call people. I use VOIP a lot but use Skype for that.
  11. Thanks Graham, I understand the problems web filtering cause's in schools my job involves blocking these websites as and when i feel appropriate. We certainly down block Google Its not actually the schools that block these websites it's the county! It can be a length process to get a website removed and sometimes it never is done. The main problem is when the county started adding key words to the filter i.e. 'games' any trace of this on a website the website is filtered out. So if a pupil went to www.schoolhistory.co.uk the website would be unavailable as the word 'games' was in the ban filter! It really is a pain.
  12. Thanks. I thought i would have had many people intrested from here but none so far
  13. It is a real shame people do things like that When will the ad-sense banner at the top be removed it seems to be causing a few problems in Internet Explorer?
