JFK's clothing and the autopsy

Cliff Varnell has mentioned in another thread that JFK's clothes were not made available for the autopsy. As I recall, SS agent Greer had JFK's clothes and gave them agent Rybka that night to take to the White House and store them in a locker instead of taking them to the morgue.

Was the SS ever asked, or did the SS ever offer an explanation, why this was done?

Is this clear evidence of a cover-up, or could both Greer and Rybka plausibly argue (not that they ever did) that they simply weren't aware of the importance of clothing for an autopsy? (Bearing in mind that in 1963 there were no CSI shows on TV every night.)

To answer my own question, I believe that stashing the clothes away at the White House instead of providing them for the autopsy is prima facie evidence of an inside cover-up. Someone ordered Greer to get rid of the clothes, as I doubt that any need to get rid of them would have occurred to Greer on his own at that point in time (unless Greer was more deeply involved in the plot that anyone imagines). The order would have presumably come (or been handed down) from someone above Greer in the Secret Service.
