The Telephone at the TSBD

Reporter Pierce Allman's sidekick, Terry Ford, told the Secret Service that a guy (Oswald?) inside the front entrance (in the lobby area?) of the TSBD directed them to a phone "inside a room" which was "directly ahead" of them. Therefore, I think the phone Allman used was the one that's visible, in the background by a pillar, in the photo of the first floor that Robin Unger posted in post # 1033 in the Oswald Leaving the TSBD? thread.

Another factor arguing against the phone's being in the lobby is that If it had been in the lobby, lots of background noise (people talking, people shouting, sirens, etc) would be heard in Allman's live reporting to his radio station. But it isn't, which suggests that the phone was situated relatively far from the front entrance and the lobby.

That phone seems to be a phone reserved for employees at work in the rear of the first floor, in the warehouse section.

Was there a public pay phone anywhere in the building.

I guess that's a Gary Mack question.

It should also be noted that James Powell also used a phone - twice - but used phones on the second floor, apparently office phones.

Powell, the off duty Army Intel Agent who took a photo of the TSBD in the moments after the assassination, that when compared to a Dillard photo of the same scene, provides proof that the boxes in the window were moved around after the last shot.

The first time Powell used the phone he said there was no one around - and he left the building, but went back in to make a second call and then was not permitted to leave the building until he was properly identified.

And finally, when Shelley said he saw Oswald standing by the phone(s) - as if waiting for a phone call - what phone(s) was he talking about?

I seem to be confused (and maybe this deserves it's own thread).

It has been reported that sometime during Oswald's interrogation Oswald mentions either:

1) he encountered someone in front of the TSBD who identifies themselves as a SS agent and directs him to a phone in the TSBD.

2) he encountered two individuals who identified themselves as SS agents and directed them to phones.

He also supposedly noted that :

1) one of the men (or man) had a crewcut.

2) one of the men (or man) carried a briefcase.

I can't find in any "official" or reliable reports which is the more accurate statement.

Also:

None of the witnesses that reported entering the TSBD and looking for a phone ever ID Oswald despite each of them professing to have professions that would make them ideal "observers" of details and appearences.

The reports by other witnesses of encountering "fake" Secret Service men raise the possibility that Oswald also encountered these individuals.

What time did the first "real" Secret Service agent enter the TSBD?

What do you all think about this encounter? Where and when did it occur?

Those are interesting observations and good questions, Chris.

There were NO SS Agents assigned to Dealey Plaza. Forrest Sorrells was the first true SS Agent to enter the TSBD at 12:55.

Much too late to account for the SS Agent sightings in the Parking area by the tracks, inside the TSBD, in front of the TSBD or on the back (North) loading dock.
