James James, One FBI report indicates he offered to leave Dallas and reenlist in the army. When I looked into this previously, I found his name on a memorial list of soldiers killed in action in VN. I gathered from this that charges were dropped and he kept his word. That said, there are so many duplicated names in this case, I couldn't be surprised if this turned out to be another. James Richards Posted February 13, 2006 Share Posted February 13, 2006 Greg, I got a friend of mine to check up on the Ashland Burchwell killed in Vietnam. He was indeed from Dallas but was born in Kentucky. He had a wife named Patricia and a brother, Homer Burchwell, who was stationed in Germany at the time. Burchwell was killed during his second tour with the 101st Airborne Division. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star and a Purple Heart. I believe we are talking about the same guy. In my browsing of the MSC files I came across (and at short notice can't locate) a report or description of these militia groups mo's, (and what strikes me is the name of your topic) where members are infact instructed to NOT name their groups and as much as possible to avoid even thinking of themselves as members so that they can answer truthfully should they be arrested or interrogated. I haven't seen anything that connects Ray to DePugh's organization. Ray was occaisionally seen with a William Seale who was a friend of John Masen. Ray was also a suspect in the 1965(?) firebombing of Penn Jones' newspaper. Dan Smoot was visited in Dallas by both Loran Hall and Joseph Milteer on separate occasions. John, from an FBI report of Oct, 1962: On October 3, 1962, Dallas Confidential Informant T-1 [botello] identified one of the membership type cards found in possession of BURCHWELL as the membership cards of an organization in Dallas, Texas. According to Dallas T-1, this organization has no name. It at one time had a name but it was decided that if the organization had no name it could not be cited, and its members if asked if they belonged to an organization, they could deny membership in the organization since it had no name and, therefore, could not be identified as such. On Sept 30, 1962, he was stopped for speeding. A search of the car yielded numerous weapons, but it was only for the possession of a switch blade that landed in Federal custody. At the time of his arrest, he was on his way to Mississippi to join Walker - despite being warned against such an action by fellow group member and FBI informant, Felix Botello.Also found were coded membership records relating to a militia group, and an address book bearing the following names of individuals and orgs: American Book Store (sold right wing literature) Vance Beaudreaux (leader of the group. Involved in fringe political parties. Accused in various web articles of being a "government informant" while his Houston law firm is said to be a CIA front. Virtually impossible to gage the veracity of such claims) Mrs Edmondson (Walker's secretary) Dr Medford Evans (former head of AEC security, associate of Walker and Kent Courtney. Lived on Pine St NO where - despite the overall conservative nature of the neighbourhood - certain members of peace groups also resided) Joe Grinnan (associated with both NIC and JBS) Johnston Printing Co (according to WC "apparently" used to set the type of the Wanted for Treason handbills.) Bob Surrey Employee of Johnson Printing and partner of Walker in the American Eagle Publishing Co) Radio Station KPCN (C & W station out of Grand Prairie with right wing slant ) La Cabania Club (no info available) Ray's Hardware (Sold the ammo and some of the weapons to Burchwell. Also where Ruby purchased his Colt Cobra) Dan Smoot (Former FBI agent and Hunt employee whose TV and radio shows made him the Bill O'Reilly of his day) Dallas Theater Center (Founded on 1954 by John Rosenfield - Amusements Editor for The Dallas Morning News. Listed as among "prominent Texas Jewish authors and journalists" by The Handbook of Texas Online) Delbert Ray (no info available) Others associated with this group: Don Munchrath (Lawyer) Ann Munchrath (Wife of above. Performed clerical duites for the group) Carry Morris Her home address was care of Joyce Witherspoon aka Joy Dale's address. Her work, according to researcher, Martha Moyer, was listed as Brick Paving Design - phone number RI 8-9711 - the business number of Will Fritz) Burchwell was interviewed by Hosty while in Federal custody. Hosty did specialise in right wing groups. I have often wondered if this was the reason he was assigned to the otherwise ostensibly anomalous Oswald case.
