I think Seth Kantor deserves his own thread. He is one of the few journalists who questioned the Warren Commission Report. What few people know is that he also played an important role in exposing the link between LBJ and the TFX scandal.

Seth Kantor was born on 9th January, 1926. During the Second World War Kantor served in the United States Marines. After the war he became a journalist and worked for several newspapers including the Fort Worth Press, Denver Rocky Mountain News, Lamar Daily News, the Pueblo Chieftain, and Dallas Times Herald.

While working in Dallas he became friendly with Jack Ruby who supplied him with the material for several stories that appeared in his newspaper.

Kantor was in the presidential motorcade when John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dealey Plaza. He arrived at Parkland Hospital while Kennedy was receiving medical care. Kantor testified before the Warren Commission that while in the hospital he entered into a conversation with Jack Ruby. It has been suggested that Ruby might have been involved in tampering with the evidence. Ruby denied he had been at the hospital and the Warren Commission decided to believe him rather than Kantor.

After the Kennedy assassination, Kantor worked for the Scripps-Howard newspaper group in Washington. Later he worked as a reporter for the Atlanta Constitution and the Detroit News. In 1974 Kantor won the prestigious Sigma Delta Chi Professional Journalism Society Medallion.

In his book Who Was Jack Ruby (1978), Kantor examines the reasons why the Warren Commission seemed to be unwilling to carry out "an in-depth probe of Ruby's past". Kantor also provides information that suggests that Ruby was "allowed" into the Dallas Police Station so that he could kill Lee Harvey Oswald. This was reissued as The Ruby Cover-Up (1992).

Seth Kantor died of a heart attack in Washington on 17th August, 1993. At the time he was working on another book on the JFK assassination.

Seth Kantor was a very close friend of mine. For more than a year, he
occupied an office space at our agency in return for occasionally doing
free lance writing for us. Every day after work all the guys would gather
for a bull session and talk current events. This was about 1956-57.

This was after he left the Fort Worth Press, but before he joined the
Times Herald or Scripps-Howard. He was one of the reasons I became
obsessed with the inaccuracy of the Warren Report. They spent more
pages on Seth than anyone else except the principals. They claimed
he was mistaken or lying when he said he saw Ruby at Parkland Hospital.
They even reproduced his entire reporter's notebook. I KNEW THAT
SETH WAS NOT LYING, so one of my earliest studies had to do with
the WR erroneous claim.

By this time, Seth was in Washington as a correspondent for a Detroit
newspaper, and I corresponded with him regarding the assassination.
Subsequently he interviewed me regarding my studies of the MC rifle,
and published a big story on the front page of his Detroit newspaper.
I presented this same information when I testified to the HSCA.
Seth accompanied me when I testified to the HSCA, and we had
lunch together in the House cafeteria during the lunch break. During
the lunch, newsman Roger Mudd dropped by to chat with us and
commented to Seth about the "rough treatment" that the committee
used on me, surprising me by asking what PHOTOGRAMMETRY means.
Seth was FURIOUS, and after we finished lunch, he attempted to speak
to Blakey about my treatment, but could not. But he was told that
my treatment WAS BLAKEY'S METHOD to discredit me. After I finished
my testimony, he met with me and told that he would try to see that
the committee was discredited over its bullying.

Seth also arranged for his paper to fly me to Washington to
appear before the Church committee, where I showed them my slide
presentation and brought to their attention several important things
which aided their investigation.

Seth was a dear friend and I was shocked to read of his death at
an unusually early age.

I did not know he was working on another JFK book.

I am waiting for the naysayers to debunk my friendship with Seth.

I am looking for the front page Detroit story he wrote on my rifle
research. I will post it when I find it.

Jack, Any recollections of Seth's telling of seeing Ruby at the hospital and Kantor's reaction to the WC saying he was wrong?

Jack, Any recollections of Seth's telling of seeing Ruby at the hospital and Kantor's reaction to the WC saying he was wrong?

We discussed it a number of times. It always made him furious.
One thing that angered him most was their CENSORING the page
in his notebook which noted a phone call from a HAL HENDRIX,
another reporter later discovered to be a CIA asset. I have forgotten
the details, but he may detail it in his book;I would have to look.

I did that sometime ago:

http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=4905

Is this the passage you were looking for:

Seth Kantor, Who Killed Jack Ruby (1978)

Some of the more disrespectful reporters in Scripps-Howard's Washington bureau referred to Hendrix as "The Spook", because of the handouts he reputedly took from the CIA.

Some years later, information received by the Senate Subcommittee on Multinational Corporations was that Hendrix had been into "black propaganda" during the late 1950s and early 1960s, when Castro was establishing and strengthening his power base in Cuba. Black propaganda is a CIA term for political stories, not necessarily supported by fact, floated to hurt "the other side."

Perhaps Hendrix was not a black propagandist, but here is an example in an article he wrote, November 11, 1964, of his approach. The article dealt with the success of "spontaneous" sabotage "which increases Castro's inability to cope with communist Cuba's steady economic disintegration." In the article, Hendrix quoted unnamed Cuban escapees who were praising the work of saboteurs smuggled into Cuba, but "they add bitterly that considerably more could be done to make life increasingly miserable for Castro if infiltration and raiding parties were not harassed by both British and United States authorities."

It was about 6 p.m., November 22, 1963, when I telephoned Hendrix at his Coral Gables home, apologizing because I had to place the call collect from the Dallas police station. He said that was no problem, and he was preparing to embark immediately on a trip into Latin America; otherwise he would be writing the information he was about to give me himself.

The information he gave me, according to my notes, concerned details of Lee Harvey Oswald's past, particularly Oswald's time span in Russia and his later connection with the Fair Play for Cuba Committee in New Orleans. Hendrix gave me a bunch of knowledgeable background on Oswald's appearance on New Orleans radio station WDSU, the previous August. In a show moderated by William Kirk Stuckey, Oswald had debated Carlos Bringuier, an anti-Castro activist and Cuban refugee. On the show, Oswald had been sharply critical of U.S. intolerance of the Castro government.

The gun comparison which I showed Seth, Sen. Schweicker, and the HSCA.
Swhweicker and his chief assistant David Marston were impressed. They brought
in a GUN EXPERT FROM THE NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION who confirmed
that the photos showed three different guns. However, the HSCA brought in
"experts" who "debunked" my study.

Seth Kantor, interviewed by Burt W. Griffin, on behalf of the Warren Commission (2nd June, 1964)

I spoke to Henry Gonzalez, who was holding a brown paper bag in his hand. He told me that it was the effects of Governor Connally. Mr. Gonzalez was still badly shaken. And I talked to Senator Yarborough again. And he said that the group was going to the airport immediately. And I knew then that the pool was formed to go out to the airport. However, I still didn't want to leave the hospital, because I know that my office was concerned with what was going to happen to Mr. Johnson. At the same time, I saw Mr. and Mrs. Johnson closely guarded coming out of the hospital, completely surrounded by men, and put into a car, and they sped away.

I spoke to the mayor of Dallas, Earl Cabell. He was unable to furnish me with any information as to what was going to happen. I turned then and went back up to the second floor.

Now, as I had told the FBI, it was either at this point or it was at a point originally when I went up behind Malcolm Kilduff that I spoke with Jack Ruby.

Kantor Ex 4 - Notes typed from a tape recording made by Seth Kantor concerning President Kennedy's trip to Texas, ...

I found this excerpt interesting "However, I looked onto the grassy hill near the triple underpass at the end of dealey plaza (the northwest and) and I saw a woman in a green dress struggling to run up the hill. I saw a man following her quickly and knocking her down. He lunged and grabbed her at the waist and pulled her down to the ground. It seemed to me she fired the shots I had just heard becuase by now i was convinced they had been shots."

QUOTE (Wade Rhodes @ Feb 2 2007, 10:05 PM) *
Kantor Ex 4 - Notes typed from a tape recording made by Seth Kantor concerning President Kennedy's trip to Texas, ...

I found this excerpt interesting "However, I looked onto the grassy hill near the triple underpass at the end of dealey plaza (the northwest and) and I saw a woman in a green dress struggling to run up the hill. I saw a man following her quickly and knocking her down. He lunged and grabbed her at the waist and pulled her down to the ground. It seemed to me she fired the shots I had just heard becuase by now i was convinced they had been shots."

This sounds like a description of the action of the Hesters.
