Full Version: Americans Who've Had Their Passports Revoked

There are thousands of famous and hardly-known Americans who've had their passports revoked [or permission to re-enter their own country]. While others have committed 'real' crimes, in my opinion all I'll list were only 'guilty' of being politically progressive, nothing more. The list will grow as I research and add to it. Feel free to add your names and any links on the details. Noteably, I'm not aware of anyone having their passport revoked for being a fascist or Nazi or other such rightwing beliefs....

No, Peter, they were usually given nice jobs and career advancement.

....right up to the top offices of the land, indeed....interesting 'bias'...one is free in America to express and act upon one's political beliefs, as long as they are center to far-right in the spectrum. Progressives have always had a more difficult time - from the Native Americans and immigrants, 1492 to the Present.

Was Dean Reed one who had his passport revoked?

I was aware of most of these names (see my page on McCarthyism) but it is the first I have heard that Gypsy Rose Lee was on the list.

After doing a search on the net it seems that her crime was to support of the Popular front government in the Spanish Civil War by raising money for charity to alleviate the suffering of children during the conflict. In other words, she was an anti-fascist. If the US, UK and French governments had supported the Popular Front in Spain it would have prevented the Second World War.

Anti-fascists have always been suspect in the USA. Those that joined the Abraham Lincoln Brigade or were early-on suspect of Hitler and now those who find the current trend toward Corporate fascism [is there any other type?!]. The leaders of the USA have always been to the right and moving more so, IMO. That list could be expanded greatly. My parent's FBI files showed surveillance of them for association and friends who were 'black-listed' or known to be socialist, communist or anti-facist 'subversives' [as the FBI docs state]. Of course criminals on the right are never labled as 'subversive'.......My uncle, Raphael Lemkin [coined the word genocide and wrote the Genocide Convention at the UN; legal expert at Nuremburg] was also labeled as 'subversive' - naturally. ****-you Amerikan Oligarchy and all Oligarchies wherever and whenever. Time for bottom-up [democratic] rule and the end to top-down! Or an end to humanity.

I wonder why? blink.gif

I was always amused by Licio Gelli's observation that the "doors of al bank vaults open to the right," an observation from a committed fascist that is undoubtedly true.
