Thanks for that Maggie...No, while I'm out of the country, I doubt it is getting the play is should. The homeless population in America was huge before and 'not seen' - not reported - even undercounted officially. I know, I was one of them and met many of the others. Another lovely feature is that homelessness is illegal, and at some point they will be moved on or arrested if on public lands; even if on private land the encampment will be disbanded for 'health and safety' reasons soon. The victims of Katrina have long been forgotten and most are still homless or semi-homeless. The mean, rich sons of bitches that run America now have no heart. They really believe that their god rewards good people with money and withholds it from bad people. With that kind of 'American Religion' America is lost. Sadly, even some of those who have lost all likely believe they are being punished for their sins - when it is the rich and those in the middle who don't care who are to be blamed - for this and for just about all the ills of American Society...now being exported around the world. Coming to a country near you soon! If you are in America, it has now got you surrounded and most haven't even noticed. Couldn't have happened without the events of Dallas, Watergate, Wars, Bank Thefts, Corporate Thefts, Dumbing-Down (purposely done); control of media; loss of Natural values and connection to Nature; war on drugs & poor; reinstitution of 'pseudo-slavery' via penal code, private prisons, selective prosecution and searches; loss of ethical values and only enrichment considered a goal in life; 911, Enron, and more.....[or is it less?] Not to mention, the growing policestate and loss of freedoms. America is a powerful [but in decline] non-model for the rest of the world. The last stage in decadence and empire - still lots of circus, but the bread is getting rather meager for many and growing number.......bye-bye America. Sadly, I think the wounded beast may try to take the rest of the Planet with it....sad, ironic joke the leaders parade themselves as moral persons - even highly religious ones. In Orwellian fashion black is white; truth are lies; up is down; right is wrong.

New Revolution or Perish, America....anyone thinking 'polity as usual' will save this sinking ship is as delusional as the leaders, IMO. Read the thread on the Economic Meltdown starting in USA, but spreading worldwide. The chickens have come home to roost and are pooping on the land that championed this mess. We were at such a high moral point at the end of WW2 and even had a second chance from the outside after 9/11 - all squandered by greed, avarice, blindness to Natural Values - even religious ones. The only values left are false ones. A kind of cosmic justice for America's hidden and wallpapered-over complicity in so many evil doings in and outside the country. The evidence was always there....but most inside chose to ignore. Try to ignore it in a tent, car etc.. Been there, done that...and I was aware before! Payback time, America. I speak not out of hate, but out of love and pain for my country. For what to do, look at the thread on Scott's The Road To 911. You have to see the patterns, then the course of how to fix it is crystal clear.

What sort of system is it that allows this to happen while throwing biillions of dollars at banks? It is even more offensive that it is illegal to be homeless. Apart from punishing the poor I suppose that it keeps the poor community fragmented. If they are allowed to keep living together they may start talking and questioning and working and organizing together. And that is something the ruling class do not want to see. Religion does serve that purpose. It justifies everyone's position in life as being according to god's divine plan. Its just coincidental that gods plan and the plan of the ruling class always seem to be the same.

That is so true. I think people really want to like America but it is just too too much.

Ever was thus [the belief of the Elite that the gods were on their side - this sold to the Public through the religion of the day. In Ancient Egypt only the Pharoh and his Priestly class had the real money and could even enter the temples. All Kings and Emperors were there by 'Devine Right' etc. This is the game the Ruling Elite have played all along and now long overdue time to end once and for all...or we end the Planet and all life on it.....pronto!

Aye, in Orange County if you're homeless the police of one city will take away whatever belongings you do have and chase you off to a different city. Of course the police dept of that city will then also send you packing. So you end up basically continually traveling this circle over and over.
It's horrible.

Thanks for that.

I saw something about this on CNN International a few years ago. But a Brazilian TV stationed showed how coverage of the Iraq War in the US was very different from that in other countries and CNN International had coverage that wasn't shown on the mother (domestic) channel. So I wouldn't be surprised if the tent city program wasn't shown stateside either.
