If anyone still doubts we are on the brink of precipitous economic and social collapse, then the link below provides a most erudite argument that oil will soon bring us all down. It's one of the best pieces on this issue I have ever read, and although quite long and technical (in parts), it's well worth the time. Add to this the recent announcement by scientists that the polar ice cap in the Arctic may finally melt this summer, and you have catastrophic climate change neatly complimenting catastrophic economic collapse.
