On 20th February, 1960, West Ham played Newcastle United at Upton Park. Our goalkeeper, Noel Dwyer, had a shocker, letting in three goals in the first 27 minutes. The Hammers staged a magnificient fight-back and by half-time the score was 3-3. However, in a five minute spell in the second-half, Dwyer made two more mistakes and Newcastle had a 5-3 winning lead.

After the game, bookmakers reported unusually large amounts of money being wagered on the fixed-odds betting, that Newcastle would win the game. Dwyer was never charged with match-fixing but he never played for the club again.
