To avoid disruption to John's topic on Match Reports, I'll start this one.
It seems, that as previously noted on this forum, George McCartney (our only left back, and full back, even) is off to Sunderland - hence West Ham's move for Paolo Ferriera. This shouldn't shock anyone. It seemed at one stage the McCartney story was nothing but a rumour, but it now seems to be firmed up as quite probable.
Appiah rumours persist also. Lets hope his potential arrival on a free doesn't allow another midfielder (Parker?) to go.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...utd/7592110.stmNorthern Ireland defender George McCartney is on the verge of leaving West Ham and returning to his previous club Sunderland, BBC Sport understands.
McCartney was linked with a return to the Black Cats in July before signing a new five-year deal with the Hammers.
West Ham turned down a £4.5m offer in early July but Sunderland have made a renewed bid of around £6m for the Northern Ireland player.
McCartney is having a medical at Sunderland on Monday.
The defender joined West Ham from Sunderland in a £1m deal in August 2006.
