If you find you encounter a problem when trying to do something on the Forum, please do NOT assume you are the victim of some malfeasance or start accusing people of wrongdoing. Instead, post the problem here and we'll try to sort it out.

This thread can also serve as a bit of an FAQ for common technical issues. Have a read through it to see if you are encountering the same issues as another member.

Thanks!

May I suggest that a pinned Help desk/FAQ topic be introduced to the top of the Forum? I've had a number of issues that I've over time solved and have others that I can't be bothered with, or have enquired about with no response, but always would have appreciated a prominent FAQ and Help desk. I tried one in the IT section for experts to comment on, but the ''experts'' are silent. Here the topic will get lost.

I can't do that one myself John, but I'll pass it on. I think both would be worthwhile.

The question you asked previously - was that about reading e-mails without ads?

No, that was a comment on accessing email with a minimum of bling. For a while there the swedish yahoo site seemed to offer this. It's changed since then.

As far as ad Q's go, I've noticed that the first click in a blank reply window on this forum opens another tab with an ad. This is definitely annoying.

Prior to the 'yippiee' topic, which was an experiment to see what might happen if I made such a post, I posted a series of issues in 'what's a bot?' that I would have liked to have commented on by IT experts.

I don't see that one myself, John. I use Firefox with Adblock and NoScript (although I have this as a trusted site, and let the ads appear).

What browser do you use?
John Dolva
I thought it probably had to do with browsers or browser settings. I use the Maxthon overlay on IE with enhanced blocking. Nevertheless the scripting is there to cause such an event. IMO it shouldn't in the first place irrespective of browser. However, hile you might not see it, it can be a pinger or cookie loader or even a malscript distributor of sorts. It depends on what security settings you make, default or custom. Some custom make some sites inaccessible so one is sometimes forced to accept things one doesn't want.

Unfortunately I don't have the skills to help you further. I can recommend Firefox as a browser, but that's about it. Sorry!

You would have to be quite determined to be annoyed to be annoyed by this - the ads here are in just static html ads you can either click on or not - they appear on every page but do not in any way disturb or distort the normal running of the forum.

LOL, would I really? . No, Andy, I'm not ''quite determined to be annoyed '' by it at all. Clicking on the reply window to have a new tab open when all one wants is to write a reply is simply annoying. It's very simply dealt with by closing that tab and going back to the reply tab. However it's time wasting, of no value, potentially intrusive, and...well...annoying. IMO the script that makes it happen shouldn't be there in the first place.

Is it just me or has the forum been very slow for the last few days? Most other sites I access load normally.
Evan Burton
No problems here.
John Dolva
Yes, Len, on occasion this ratheramusing/interesting event occurs. It'd be interesting to have a full understanding of it. The reasons could be many.
