It has just been announced that the Government-funded GridClub has been privatised. A company called Grid Learning Ltd are the new owners. Its first move was to make it a subscription only service (£3 per child per school per year, £29.99 for parents per year). It is not known how much was paid for GridClub.

GridClub was the most popular web service in the world with 40 per cent of its members living outside the UK. Not that the government is concerned that children in other countries are being denied this free service. A spokesperson for the DfES suggests that schools should now pay for this service with their e-learning credits.

Makes you wonder who owns Grid Learning Ltd, doesn't it!

Why couldn't they just hand over some tax-payers' money to their friends directly?
