My favourite comedian, Linda Smith, died earlier this week. She was born in Erith and once said: “It’s not twinned with anywhere, but it does have a suicide pact with Dagenham.” As someone who spent much of my childhood in Dagenham, and who has unfortunately visited Erith, I know what she means.
