There is a lot of information to present here, and before I get to the meat I need to set the scene. So first a time line, then the Autopsy results.

29th Sept: 11,00pm Stride is seen by two witnesses, j. Best and J Gardner, leaving the Bricklayers arms pub in the company of a man

11,45pm, William Marshall sees a amn talking for about ten mimutes to Stride opposite 58 Berner St. The pair then walk past him towards Ellen Rd.

Some time after 1100pm Matthew Packer supposedly sells grapes to a man and woman walking up Berner St from Ellen Rd. He claims they stand opposite his shop for more than half an hour.( heavily disputed testimony)

30 Sept, 12 30 am, PC 425H William Smith sees Stride talking to a man in Berner St.

12 45 am, James Brown(whoa, get down. Sorry!) sees a man and woman standing talking at the junction of Fairclough St and Berner St.

12 45 am, Isreal Schwartz sees a man walk up to and argue with Stride in Berner St, then turn her round and throw throw her to the floor.

1 00 am, Louis Diemschutz, Steward of the International working mans club, discovers Strides body.

1 30 am, A man is seen wiping his hands in Church lane, between Berner St and Mitre Square, according to a story reported in the Star 1st Oct.

1 35 am, Joshpeph Lawende, Joseph Levy and Harry Harris see Catharine Eddowes talking with a man at the corner of Church passage.

1 45 am, the mutilated body of Eddowes is discovered in Mitre Sq by PC 881 Edward Wartkins of the City Police.

2 55 am, PC 245a Alfred Long discovers a piece of Eddowes apron with stains of wet blood and faecal matter in the entry to a staircase at 108-119, wentworth model dwellings, Goulstn St. The words" The Juwes are the men that will not be blamed for nothing" are written in white chalk on the edge of the doorway.

5 30 am, The words are wiped of on Sir Charles Warrens express orders.

Time unknown, PC 101h Robert Spicer( Subsequently discharged for being drunk on duty) encounters "Rosy", a prostitute, sitting on a dustbin off Heneage st with a Brixton Dr who had blood on his cuffs, Spicer claims to have arrested him, but to have been repremanded for his pains.

THE POST-MORTEM OF ELIZABETH STRIDE. 3PM, 1ST OCT 1888.

Dr philips, and Dr Blackwell conducted the autopsy:Blackwell performed the dissection, whilst Philips took notes.
Dr Philips described their findings at the inquest on 3rd Oct. They had found a long gash in Strides throat, a clean incision from LEFT TO RIGHT about six inches in length. There were no other cuts or marks to suggest strangulation. There were pressure marks on both shoulders, under the collar bones and in front of the chest, apparantly caused by the pressure of two hands upon the shoulders. Both Doctors agreed thatb the cause of death had been haemorrhage resulting from the partial severance of the left carotid artery and the division of the windpipe. Blackwell believed that the throat was cut while Stride was falling to the ground, or when she was lying on the ground because blood would have "spurted about" if she had been standing up. He surmised that the murder had grabbed the victim by the shoulders and pushed her to the ground. The murderer had been on her right side, and cut her throat from left to right. The injury could have been inflicted within two seconds. contrary to a few histrionic newspaper reports, Stride was not clutching grapes in her hand when she was killed, and no grape skins or pips were found in the stomach during post-mortem.

POST-MORTEM OF CATHARINE EDDOWES

Dr Brown, Dr Phillips and Dr Saunders: A cut about a quarter inch through the left eyelid, a scratch near the angle of the nose(left) a deep cut over the bridge of the nose this cut continued to the angle of the jaw, and was deep enough to hit bone, and divided all the structurse of the cheek. The tip of the nose was sliced off. A downwards cut from where the wings of the nose joined the face, also dividing the upper lip. An incision on each side off the cheek, which peled up the skin in a triangular flap.The throat was slit across;6-7ins in length the larynx was severed below the vocal chord. The front walls of the abdomen were laid open from the breast bone to the pubes in an upwards motion, the liver was peirced, and incised, the cut then went down the right side of the vagina and rectum. There was a stab to the left side of the groin, and an incision about two inches below this. The pancreas was deeply cut, but not removed, the left kidney was CAREFULLY taken out, and removed by the killer. The womb was cut through horizontally and taken away with some of the ligaments.

DOUBLE EVENT WITNESSES. ISRAEL SCHWARTZ.

He testified to a strange encounter just prior to the murder of Liz Stride. He had seen one man "walking as though drunk" whilst a second man leaving a pub had a knife with which he threatened Schwartz.

12-45 am 30th. He stated that at this hour, on turning into Berner St and having got as far as the gateway where the murder was committed, he saw a man stop and speak to a Woman, who was standing in the gate way, he then turned her round and threw her to the floor, at which the Woman screamed three times, BUT NOT VERY LOUDLY. He then saw a second man lighting a pipe, the man who threw the Woman down called out, apparantly to the pipe smoking man, "Lipski" at which Schwartz walked away, but finding that he was followed by the scond man, ran as far as the railway arch, but the man did not follow.

Schwartz cannot say whether the men were acting togrther, or known to each other. Upon being taken to the mortuary he identified the body as that of the woman he had seen.

DESCRIPTIONS.

FIRST MAN. age 30 height, 5ft 5ins, comp fair, hair dark small dark moustache, full face broad shoulders, dark jacket and trousers, black cap with peak.
SECOND MAN.age 35, height 5ft 11ins, comp fair, hair brown dark overcoat, old black hard felt hat wide brim.

DOUBLE EVENT WITNESS, JOSEPH LAWENDE (EDDOWES)

LAWENDE. I was at the Imperial club with friends, we could not get home because it was raining. at half past one we saw a man and womanat the corner of church passage in Duke St, which leads into Mitre Sq.(note, site of Eddowes murder)

CORONER (MR LANGHAM) Were they talking at the time?

LAWENDE, She was standing wtih her face towards the man. I only saw her back, she had her hands on his chest.
