    How to stop fascism?

Ukraine is not the only country that seeks a way to stop fascism. This article in Aftonbladet ( http://www.aftonbladet.se/kultur/article18579661.ab posted under 'culture' ) has some answers. (rough summary of this particular contribution) It's a matter that must be taken seriously. Effective, active policy must be developed. Far-sighted resources to police and prosecution must be in place. The competence of persons need to be increased. Hate-crime laws must be applied as intended. Matters must be allowed to go to high courts to establish guidelines for police and relevant authorities. The police need more direction in handling demonstrations by hate groups. Fascism is anti democratic. Authorities must recognise that and act on it as such. Fascist organisations must be recognised as criminal networks and dealt with as such by all authorities. All authorities need to be resourced to deal with these groupings according to the law that forms as a result of the above. Education, wise leadership and an understanding that it is a complex problem that is paramount. The applied steps must be far-sighted and continuous.

    The Inquisition

Many know something about The Inquisition. The extent of it, its pervasiveness, the few moments of letup with sporadic outbreaks, for (arguably, if one doesn't lop off the first century and the 20th century ops) almost two thousand years is something else... http://www.exposingchristianity.com/Inquisition.html " "The Christian resolve to find the world evil and ugly, has made the world evil and ugly." - Friedrich Nietzsche ... On Sunday, March 12th, 2002, the Pope John Paul II apologized for the "errors of his church for the last 2000 years." Did they run back into the railroad yard or into the parking lot? Sitzman: Some ran ... I mean ... I finally got back up to the alcove." this is all a bit disjointed. Powerful 'green shopping' critique falls short on solutions Sunday, March 4, 2012 By Ian Angus Kendra Pierre-Louis's new book, Green Washed, is a powerful critique of 'the comforting message that we can shop ourselves out of our current environmental mess'. Green Washed: Why We Can’t Buy Our Way to a Green Planet Kendra Pierre-Louis IG Publishing, 216 pages Radical German poet Hans Magnus Enzenberger once compared mainstream environmentalism to a Sunday sermon that terrifies parishioners with dire warnings of eternal damnation, but concludes weakly by promising salvation to any sinner who performs a simple act of penance. “The horror of the predicted catastrophe,” he wrote, “contrasts sharply with the mildness of the admonition with which we are allowed to escape.” Countless green books fit that description. Again and again, intense warnings of imminent disaster are followed by lists of Easy Things You Can Do to Save the Earth. Buy fluorescent light bulbs. Turn down the thermostat and buy a warm sweater. Ride a bicycle to work. Carry groceries in reusable tote bags. Don’t buy bottled water. Kendra Pierre-Louis is an editor of Justmeans.com, a website that calls itself “the world's leading source of information and connections for the sustainable business industry”. So we might expect her to favour such proposals, but that’s not the case. Her new book Green Washed is a powerful critique of “the comforting message that we can shop ourselves out of our current environmental mess”. She writes: “Too many businesses and environmental groups have led us to believe that if we buy the correct collection of products, we can save the planet. “While these assurances have done much to assuage our collective guilt, and even more to create a generation of smug eco-shoppers, it has done next to nothing to fundamentally change the environmental landscape, while in many cases actively contributing to environmental degradation and misinformation.” But while it rejects the Easy Things You Can Do approach, Green Washed still suffers from the Sunday sermon problem. Pierre-Louis’critique of green consumerism is powerful and effective, but the alternative she offers is no more credible than a green shopping list. In six chapters on consumer products and three on energy alternatives, Pierre-Louis documents the environmental damage caused by supposedly green products. Organic food is often grown by malnourished farm workers. Biodiesel comes from tree farms that accelerate biodiversity loss. It takes a whopping 400 gallons of water to produce the fabric for one natural cotton T-shirt. Even if your hybrid car used no gasoline at all, it would still require roads. Pierre-Louis writes: “The construction of one single mile, of one single lane, of a highway’s smooth, perfectly paved road surface consumes between 7000 and, 12,000 tons of raw materials — the same amount used by 600 to 1000 US households annually. "In the process, that same tiny mile emits some 500 to 1200 tons of carbon dioxide.” Green Washed’s greatest strength is its clear and concise presentation of such data. Pierre-Louis hasn’t just done her research, she has organised and presented it very well, making a convincing case that green shopping cannot save the planet: that alone makes it a valuable resource for green activists. In her view, what’s necessary is not just different consumption, but less consumption. “The easiest thing to do, the greenest thing, is to simply use less of whatever we are using.” Countless products shouldn’t be made at all; others should be made to last. "If we stop wasting 40% of all food that’s grown, agriculture will use less land and water. Reliable and cost-effective public transit will reduce the need for cars, fuel and highways. "Making clothing that lasts will keep millions of tons of textile waste out of municipal landfills." In refreshing contrast to most books on consumerism, Green Washed pins the blame for excess consumption on our economic system, not on individual psychology. “If we were to make reducing our consumption to a level that was both materially satisfying and ecologically sustainable our central focus, our entire global economic system would collapse. "This isn’t a hyperbole. Our economic system is based on the need for perpetual growth; we either grow our economy or it dies, taking us along with it.” Unfortunately, Pierre-Louis’ analysis of causes stops with criticism of growth. She doesn’t ask why the global economic system is so irrational. Why is the only alternative to one polluting product so often another that pollutes as badly or worse? Many brilliant writers have criticised growth, and offered detailed proposals for steady-state economies — why have they been ignored by those in power? What about our existing social and economic order makes growth so essential and environmental destruction so universal? Because it doesn’t pursue those questions, Green Washed proposes band aid solutions when major surgery is needed. Having firmly rejected individual green shopping, the alternative Pierre-Louis offers amounts to green shopping in groups. She writes: “It’s about going to your neighborhood bars and getting them to band together to refuse to stock any beer sold by a publicly traded company, or getting your local bakeries to start using sustainably sourced flour, or getting people in your communities to stop frequenting the Wal-Marts and big box retailers and to work together to localize the economy.” Buying local may be good in its own right, but it’s impossible to take seriously her claim that such actions amount to “dropping out of the normal economic system”. Even less believable is her view that local shopping will form the basis of a “shadow, or parallel economy” that will “tread lightly on the earth” and “cast a light into the dark corners of the normal economy.” The handful of real world examples she cites are cooperatives, a type of economic institution that has co-existed with destructive capitalism in various forms for at least two centuries. As many past experiences have shown, the “normal economy” can easily tolerate such alternatives, so long as they don’t significantly challenge its constant drive for new sources of raw materials, cheap labor and profit. In rare cases when an alternative does grow beyond acceptable limits, the powers that be have more than enough power to absorb or crush it. Pierre-Louis admits that “the people currently in power … have a vested interest in keeping things more or less the same”. But she offers no guidance for how we are to deal with their resistance to change. Projects that improve the sustainability and resilience of local communities are important, but they are no substitute for political and social action against the global forces that are destroying our world. Unless we stop and reverse those forces, Pierre-Louis’s shadow economies will be small green islands in an ocean of environmental destruction — and water levels will continue rising. Robert Howard Yesterday, 02:41 PM Post #75 Advanced Member Group: Members Posts: 304 Joined: 6-July 05 Member No.: 3174 (John): came across another site in a search for mkultra where there is a letter(redacted to hide id's) written in the 50's by someone talking about creating a 'jekyll and hyde' persona to among other things set up accounts. JJA is involved in this particular investigation as a witness mentioned in another context. Set up accounts? Could you elaborate, I find this interesting. Also if there was ever an area that should be looked into it concerns Ruth Paine and the 'Hyde' connection. As you may or may not know, Ruth Paine's genealogy is tied to the Hyde family. When George DeMohrenschildt met with Clemard Charles in Haiti with William Avery Hyde, of the Agency for International Development [CIA SSD-157,435] from the Khazak Weberman "MEMORANDUM FOR FILE (CI/OA File 59751) SUBJECT: Mrs. Ruth Paine nee Hyde Shortly after the assassination of President Kennedy the press carried information concerning a Mrs. Ruth Paine who had befriended the OSWALD family. Mr. Bruce Solie, of the Office of Security, called to my attention that the Office of Security has information of possible interest concerning William A. Hyde, who had three children; namely Ruth Hyde, Sylvia Hyde Hoke and Carl Hyde. Mrs. Ruth Paine was known to have had the name Hyde prior to her marriage. On November 29, 1963, I advised Sam Papich to contact Mr. Solie of the Office of Security for information of possible interest in connection with Mrs. Ruth Paine. I indicated to Mr. Papich that the Office of Security information was of possible security significance and consideration and I was subsequently informed that the Bureau had been in touch with Mr. Solie for its information. Birch D. O'Neal Chief, CI/SIG. [NARA CIA 1993.07.08.09.:07:31:900520] On March 1, 1964, FBI S.A. Charles M. Beall, Jr., ascertained at CIA that its security and foreign indices did not contain any references identifiable with Michael Ralph Paine. CIA advised its only reference to Ruth Avery Hyde, nee Hyde, was set out in CIA Report prepared in 1957 on William Avery Hyde, father of Ruth. This CIA material was furnished the Bureau via Liaison on December 4, 1963, with request the CIA material not be inserted in the Bureau reports. Dallas is cognizant." [FBI 105-1717-225 - Hosty's name on the "Searched, Indexed, Serialized and Filed April 19, 1964, FBI - Dallas" stamp on this document.] HEMMING told this researcher: "He was covering his ass." The FBI reported: "On December 4, 1963, CIA made available information to the Bureau Liaison that in 1957 CIA considered using this individual to operate a cooperative educational center in Vietnam but he was not used by the CIA. Investigation by CIA at that time concerning William Avery Hyde was favorable." Ruth Paine commented: "The information about the CIA considering my father for Vietnam was a surprise. I doubt if he would have accepted such an invitation, if it was offered. He certainly didn't go. He went to Peru. He was working with the Agency for International Development. He helped to develop rural credit unions for the compasinos so that they could save enough money to make loans to themselves, instead of always paying the huge bank rates. He loved it. I know that USAID asked my father to appraise a situation in Georgetown, Guiana. He recommended against starting a project there, as he thought the local officials corrupt." In 1964 Ruth Paine informed the Warren Commission: Paine: My father is working for Nationwide Insurance Company. He has been on special assignment from them to - I am not certain of the name of the organization - to cooperative alliance in Europe. Jenner: That is a cooperative alliance of insurance companies?Paine: Having to do with insurance; yes. Jenner: Insurance companies? Paine: Yes; that is my understanding. Jenner: This is a commercial activity, isn't it? Paine: Yes; I believe so. And - Jenner: The cooperative alliance in Europe, does that include any Iron Curtain countries? Paine: No. He is presently teaching a course at Ohio State University and he is on loan for that portion of time which he occupies with teaching from his regular job at Nationwide, although he is at the company most of the time" Did Nationwide have any affiliation with Southland Life Insurance Co., located at the Southland Bdlg. Lee at the theatre

I'm curious about the exact series of events at the time of Oswalds arrest. A summary in Warren Commission Reports state: "At 1:29 p.m., the police radio had noted the similarity in the descriptions of the suspects in the Tippit shooting and the assassination. At 1:45 p.m., in response to Mrs. Postal's call, the police radio sounded the alarm: "Have information a suspect just went in the Texas Theatre on West Jefferson." Within minutes the theater was surrounded. The house lights were then turned up. Patrolman M. N. McDonald and several other policemen approached the man, who had been pointed out to them by Brewer. McDonald ordered the man to his feet and heard him say, "Well, it's all over now." The man drew a gun from his waist with one hand and struck the officer with the other. McDonald struck out with his right hand and grabbed the gun with his left hand. After a brief struggle McDonald and several other police officers disarmed and handcuffed the suspect and drove him to police headquarters, arriving at approximately 2 p.m." In order to verify a possible mistake that can be had from cursorily approaching this issue can be had from the statements: '..Within minutes the theater was surrounded." XXX "The house lights were then turned up." XXX "Patrolman M. N. McDonald and several other policemen approached the man, who had been pointed out to them by Brewer." This is not clear enough for anyone reading it not to have questions. It seems like a summary that has left out connecting points. At some point the Policemen entered the theatre. Here they have gone from surrounding the theatre to being inside and approaching Lee. The inference of course is that "the house lights were THEN turned up*" was the reason for them being able to approach which implies they have ID'd him and set about approaching. Did this happen before or after they ENTERED the theatre.? How much forewarning DID Lee have and if he had some what does that make of a notion of him being on the run? Can other members who can see what I mean here about bits being missing help in filling out those missing bits please? *'turned up' not 'switched on': a dimmer switch that progressively increases luminance to some point: in order to not blind patrons?

  10. "Oswald shot at Walker." .. ? I've seen this written so many times. I've never seen explained how this sharpshooter who got off a couple of kill shots at JFK under difficult circumstances could miss Walker who was stationary, framed by a window in a lit room, at night, shooting from a stable position with more time to draw a bead. It leaves open the suggestion that Oswald, or X, did not shoot at Walker. Oswald, or X, shot at the window frame. No repeat shots. (Otherwise Oswald, or X, did not shoot at Walker and JFK. A poor shot shot at Walker and it was or was not connected to the assassination of JFK.) The only reason I can come up with is to mark Walker as a target, not to kill him. Why? Naturally the effect is that Walker reacts. What is that reaction? What acts does that reaction lead to and what is the result of those acts? et.c..
  11. ‘Something wrong with Ukraine, EU’: Czech leader condemns ‘Nazi torchlight parade’ Published time: January 04, 2015 23:53 Get short URL Activists of the Svoboda (Freedom) and Right Sector Ukrainian nationalist parties hold torches as they take part in a rally to mark the 106th birth anniversary of Stepan Bandera, one of the founders of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), in Kiev January 1, 2015. (Reuters/Valentyn Ogirenko) The chilling slogans and a flagrant demonstration of nationalist symbols during the neo-Nazi march in Kiev reminded the Czech President Milos Zeman of Hitler's Germany. He said something was “wrong” both with Ukraine and the EU which didn’t condemn it. Zeman was commenting on the appalling scenes, which showed thousands of Ukrainian nationalists holding a torchlight procession across the Ukrainian capital on Thursday to commemorate the 106th birthday of Stepan Bandera, a Nazi collaborator and the Ukraine nationalist movement’s leader during World War II. "There is something wrong with Ukraine,” the Czech Republic's leader told radio F1 on Sunday. “Yesterday evening I was browsing the Internet and discovered a video showing the demonstration on Kiev’s Maidan on January 1.” “These demonstrators carried portraits of Stepan Bandera, which reminded me of Reinhard Heydrich,” Zeman said referring to one of the main architects of the Holocaust and at the time a Reich-Protector of Czech Republic’s territories. “The parade itself was organized similar to a Nazi torchlight parade,” Zeman explained. “Participants shouted the slogan: ‘Death to the Poles, Jews and communists without mercy.’” Bandera was the head of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), which collaborated with Nazi Germany, and was involved in the ethnic cleansing of Poles, Jews and Russians. "Ukraine belongs to Ukrainians" and "Bandera will return and restore order", were the repeated slogans during the neo-Nazi march. Some wore World War II Bandera's insurgent army uniforms while others paraded with red and black nationalist flags. Czech President Milos Zeman (AFP Photo/Patrick Kovarik) The Czech President said something is “wrong” not only with Ukraine, but also with the European Union, which did not protest or condemn this action. "Don't forget that Bandera is considered a national hero in Ukraine, his image is hanging in the Maidan, his statue is in Lvov. In reality, he was a mass murderer," Zeman said last summer on Czech Television.

"Oswald shot at Walker." .. ?

Gene, Yes very much how it looks to me. It's odd. It seems staged to me too. I have my own ideas about the purpose of it. I wonder if that can be deduced from the immediate aftermath. An immediate one is Walker calling the cops (and confederates I presume)(the newspaper?). I wonder how they saw it. As a murder attempt and pursued it as such. A shooting among others.

    Proposed Military Strike on Syria

Turkey continues to send arms, ammunition and jihadists to ISIS–PART I Saturday, April 9, 2016 2:30 PM HESEKÊ - DELİL SERDAR - ANF ISIS gang Abdurrahim Xalit İbrahim captured by the YPG stated that Turkey continues to send arms, ammunition and jihadists to ISIS mainly through Jarablus and Til Rai. İbrahim noted that the Turkish aid to ISIS decreased because ISIS-Turkey relations got exposed and the border between ISIS and Turkey got shorter. Captured by the YPG after the ISIS attack on Girê Spî, ISIS gang Abdurrahim Xalit İbrahim code-named Ebu İslam Xerip spoke to ANF. İbrahim was born in Aleppo, joined ISIS two years ago, stated that ISIS viewed Turkey as an ally. İbrahim said that his main duties were to give ideological and political education, recruit new gangs, and organize the gangs that arrived in Syria via Turkey. İbrahim was captured by the YPG in an office building near Siluk after the ISIS attack on Girê Spî. Regarding the relations between Turkey and ISIS, İbrahim said that the two entities had shared ideologies and goals, and would never fight one another. İbrahim stated that ISIS viewed Turkey as an ally and the two entities collaborated numerous times in the past, so a war between Turkey and ISIS would never break out. 'TRANSPORTATION WAS CARRIED OUT THROUGH GIRE SPI' İbrahim highlighted the importance of the Girê Spî border gate for ISIS and said that the majority of supplies entered Syria through here. İbrahim said that ISIS used the Girê Spî border gate and secret underground tunnels to smuggle jihadists from all around the world into Syria, and the border gate served as ISIS’ lifeline because the majority of military and food supply transportation took place through here. İbrahim emphasized the friendly nature of Turkey-ISIS relations, and said that these relations continue today despite the YPG’s liberation of Girê Spî. İbrahim added that Turkey continues to send arms, ammunition and jihadists to ISIS mainly through Jarablus and Til Rai today, and the Turkish aid to ISIS decreased because the border between ISIS and Turkey got shorter. 'TRANSPORTATION FROM TURKEY WAS OFFICIAL' İbrahim stated that transportation from Turkey via Girê Spî, Jarablus and Til Ria was carried out officially, and nighttime was chosen in order to avoid coalition warplanes and press coverage. İbrahim said that couriers led the transportation of jihadists as part of the agreement ISIS had made with Turkey, and ISIS militants welcomed the incoming gangs 1 km away from the Turkish border and took them to Raqqa. İbrahim underlined that the Turkish state turned a blind eye to this route and never caused a problem, and the Turkish intelligence approved all of the border crossings. ‘JARABLUS AND THE REGION TO ITS SOUTHWEST ARE OPEN FOR US’ Captured ISIS gang İbrahim stated that ISIS sent petroleum, wheat and other materials to Turkey in exchange for arms, ammunition and supplies, and Jarablus became the only border with Turkey after the YPG’s liberation of Girê Spî. İbrahim said that Jarablus and the region to its southwest were open for ISIS, and the gangs have been using this area for logistical purposes. İbrahim noted that the YPG’s liberation of Girê Spî reduced the flow of goods and militants between ISIS and Turkey, but this flow continues today through Jarablus and Til Rai. ‘SENIOR ISIS MEMBERS IN CIVILIAN CLOTHES CARRIED OUT THE TRADE’ The captured gang stated that certain ISIS members were chosen to carry out the trade with Turkey, and hundreds of vehicles crossed the border everyday as part of this trade. İbrahim noted that ISIS gangs responsible for the trade with Turkey were senior administrators and wore civilian clothes, and ISIS sent petroleum, wheat and other materials to Turkey in exchange for arms, ammunition, supplies and the treatment of injured gangs in Turkish hospitals. İbrahim added that the trade between ISIS and Turkey became more secretive after the bombardment of petroleum tankers near the border and the exposure of Turkey-ISIS relations.
  16. following on from post #161 In both of these calculations I assume the structures being square, level and plumb. I think that's a reasonable thing. Obviously there will be slight deviations and errors compounded by a not so clear photo as well as the how of choosing lines of projection by eye. Nevertheless, such a derived Azimuth of 212.3 giving a time of 14.10 + and a derived Elevation giving a time of 14.00 + is an indication that this way of working out the time of a photo in a particular place on a particular day is useful. A number of more careful derivation may lead to more precise times, but to say this photo was taken about 14.05 seems to me to be reasonable. (Knowing when exactly it was taken would be helpful for confirmation though I doubt that information is readily available.)
  17. Just for fun I calculated the time of the photo on post 93 using an online right angle calculator, a pythagoras theorem calculator and a us navy sun table calculator and found the time to be just past two o'clock. 13:50 32.3 207.1 14:00 31.3 209.6 < I found the elevation to be 31.5 degrees. 14:10 30.2 212.0 This table also tells that the Azimuth (E of N) is 209.6+ at that time. I can use that to double check. ie that must be the Azimuth as derived from the photo. I should also compute error margins. Later. http://aa.usno.navy.mil/cgi-bin/aa_altazw.pl?form=1&body=10&year=1963&month=11&day=22&intv_mag=10&state=TX&place=dallas http://www.cleavebooks.co.uk/scol/calrtri.htm http://www.basic-mathematics.com/pythagorean-theorem-calculator.html

What is more offensive, writing a poem that suggests that Turkey Dictator Erdogan is a murderous misogynistic beast or him killing, beating and imprisoning and denying access to medicine for Kurdish, children women and men (the most successful anti ISIS force) and similarly targeting their supporters? What about Merkel phoning him to apologise and urging him to prosecute the poet while playing dumb on the crimes he is committing in Kurdistan, let alone his support for ISIS and their smuggling of oil and antiquities out of Syria? Who is going to audit the 6bn given to the Turkish dictatorship in order to stem the flow of refugees? What about the concentration camps being built to contain refugees in Turkey? That money could have been given to Greece to end their debt slavery and finance job creation schemes to house refugees. edit typos edit add : Why do various western countries including the US block the participation of the Syrian Kurds, the YPG and YPJ, liberators of Kobane, the most effective anti IS force in Syria (along with the Syrian army and allies) in spite of being regularly bombarded by Turkey, while accepting the participation of known chemical warfare users (uses chemicals to kill Kurds)?? Because of sponsor of ISIS, Dictator Erdogans' Turkeys' say so?
  19. MOSCOW, April 5. /TASS/. The command of Ukraine’s armed forces are moving their headquarters and control centers closer to the line of engagement in Donbass as part of preparations for an offensive, Eduard Basurin, a spokesman for the defense ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), said on Tuesday. "According to our reconnaissance, the headquarters and control centers of the 72nd and 128th brigades of the Ukrainian army are being moved from the rear of the Kiev’s force operation in Donbass closer to the line of engagement. This fact testifies that Ukraine’s military political command is getting prepared for further large-scale provocations," the Donetsk News Agency quoted him as saying. The DPR defense ministry said earlier that the situation in the republic has deteriorated, with a total of 442 episodes of shelling by Ukrainian troops reported in the past day. 20. Denounces Against Poroshenko Affect Creation of Alliance in Ukraine Kiev, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) The publication of the so-called Panama Papers, with allegations of corruption against President Petro Poroshenko, decrease the chances of creating a new parliamentary coalition in Ukraine, said a member of the Parliament. Svetlana Zalishchuk, deputy of the Petro Poroshenko block said that, in contrast to the government and parliament, the president seemed to be an institution that enjoyed relative credibility. The war of "all against all" is entering a new and dangerous phase. It is much less likely now to create a coalition without elections. In response to denounces against the chocolate magnate-come-head of state, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine stated that it will not investigate the existence of offshore companies belonging to Poroshenko, because he is immune to prosecution by the supervisory body. [a corrupt junta usurps power from a government because of corruption and when evidence emerges the boss is corrupt he cannot be investigated for corruption?? wtf...] However, the leader of the Radical Party, Oleg Lyashko, proclaimed on Monday that his faction in the legislature will initiate the procedure for a political accusation against Poroshenko. The president began the restructuring of the assets of his monopoly Roshen by creating three companies abroad, denounced the journalist Anna Babinets in the investigative report The President's Double Life, broadcasted last Sunday on the Slidstvo Info TV program. According to the available documentation, The President's Double Life showed that Petro Poroshenko is the sole owner of the assets of Prime Asset Partners Limited, founded by Poroshenko in August 2014. Similarly, the sources stressed that the tycoon did not mention his new company abroad and the auxiliary corporations in his financial statements in 2014 or 2015, which is another violation of the law. sus/l2p/lam/jpm

UN, April 6. /TASS/. Western member states of the UN Security Council voted to block Russia’s proposal on the all-inclusive nature of the upcoming round of intra-Syrian talks, Russia’s UN envoy Vitaly Churkin said. According to the Russian diplomat, a delegation from Ukraine, which is not a permanent UN Security Council member, also added its destructive share into the decision to block the Russian proposal. Read also Russian top diplomat calls to ensure unity of actions of external players on Syria Churkin said Moscow repeatedly expressed its concerns that Syrian Kurds were still not invited to take part in the Geneva talks on the ongoing conflict settlement, adding that "such stance contradicts UN Security Council’s resolutions in the inclusiveness of the political process in Syria." "It seemed that our concerns were shared by all main partners," Churkin said. "We have submitted with the UN Security Council’s members a draft for media calling to provide a maximum representation of the inter-Syrian dialogue at the upcoming talks." "We were surprised when the draft was blocked by some Western countries," he said. "The Ukrainian delegation also chipped in destructively." More: http://tass.ru/en/politics/867571

  23. A book of significanceA book by Elier Ramírez and Esteban Morales analyzes attempts to normalize relations between the U.S. and Cuba during the administrations of Gerald Ford (1974-1977) and Jimmy Carter (1977-1981) Author: Piero Gleijeses | informacion@granma.cu march 29, 2016 17:03:50 The book analyzes attempts at normalization during the Presidencies of Gerald Ford (1974-1977) and Jimmy Carter (1977-1981).On a certain occasion President Raúl Castro stated, “We have been capable of making history but not of writing it.” The excellent book by Elier Ramírez and Esteban Morales, De la confrontación a los intentos de “normalización” (From confrontation to attempts at “normalization”) published by Editorial de Ciencias Sociales in 2014, constitutes an important step in filling this void. The book, based on knowledge of U.S. and Cuban secondary sources, as well as a rich sample of U.S. documents and, exclusively, numerous Cuban documents, analyzes the attempts at normalization during the Presidencies of Gerald Ford (1974-1977) and Jimmy Carter (1977-1981). Both were the only episodes – prior to Obama’s Presidency – in which there was a serious attempt to normalize relations between the U.S. and Cuba. There was also an incipient attempt under Kennedy, which Ramírez and Morales describe in the first chapter of the book. Under both Ford and Carter, Africa was, as the authors well explain, “the insurmountable obstacle” preventing normalization between the U.S. and Cuba. Negotiations were advancing in 1975, when Cuban troops arrived in Angola in defiance of the USSR – opposed to such a move – and challenged South Africa, which had invaded Angola and whose troops were approaching Luanda, Challenging, at the same time, the U.S. which was in shameless cahoots with Pretoria. Fidel decided to intervene because he knew that the victory of the Axis of Evil - Washington and Pretoria - would have meant the victory of apartheid and the strengthening of white rule over the peoples of Southern Africa. Fifteen years later, in an unusual outburst of honesty, Henry Kissinger, U.S. Secretary of State in 1975, recognized in the last volume of his memoirs that Cuba had acted on her own initiative, presenting the USSR with a fait accompli. Fidel, Kissinger said, “was probably the most genuine revolutionary leader then in power.” Cuba saved Angola and the U.S. retaliated by stopping short the talks on normalizing relations. These were later resumed by Carter. Ramírez and Morales skillfully outline the talks between U.S. and Cuban officials in 1977-1978, using both Cuban and U.S. documents of the time, an exceptional feat that no other historian studying this episode has achieved, including the author of this article. ..."

  25. OFFICIAL VOICE OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF CUBA CENTRAL COMMITTEE The “good” Obama? Much more is revealed by what Obama didn’t say in Havana, than the little he did, no matter how choice his words. This is the same Obama who could do much more given his Presidential powers and yet has not. Author: dario machado | internet@granma.cu march 30, 2016 09:03:35 LIKE many others, I followed the visit by Barack Obama to our country and experienced mixed feelings: on the one hand, the healthy patriotic and revolutionary pride of witnessing a U.S. president rectifying the policy toward Cuba and repeating on our own soil that the blockade must be ended, reaffirming respect for our sovereignty and independence, which we Cubans have earned with our sacrifice, our sweat, our blood, our history; and on the other hand, the danger posed by those who believe that with these lukewarm changes, the contradiction between the interests of U.S. imperialism and the Cuban nation has disappeared. But it was only after listening to his speech that Tuesday morning that I decided to write this, because, as Fidel warned over half a century ago, from now on everything will be more difficult. Who could doubt the enormous complexity of U.S. society, where black and white analysis is of little value? A turbulent history in which battles for independence against British colonialism and genocidal onslaughts against the indigenous population intermingle; an impetuous industrial development and a cruel internecine war that killed more than 600,000 human beings; paradigmatic creativity and inventiveness in science and technology and a warmongering and expansionist military apparatus of which Mexico and Cuba – to take just two examples from our region – have been nearby victims; a society with extraordinary cultural expressions in music, literature and film along with a messianism that does not honor those assets; industrious and enterprising citizens over whom, however, an imperialist state machinery rests heavy; the richest and the most indebted country in the world; the country that demands human rights of others and least respects them itself, as evidenced by over half a century of economic blockade against Cuba; a society in which violence serves as the guiding principle throughout its history. In short, a country full of contractions in which it would be naive to think that the current rapprochement with Cuba is simply the result of the thinking, will and resourcefulness of Obama, and not an integral part of the interests of the real power in the U.S. - that of big business. If Barack Hussein Obama had proven impractical to the powers that govern the U.S., it would have been very difficult for him to have been elected president in 2008 and reelected in 2011, and the change of policy toward Cuba would not have initiated. This is the same Obama who just two months after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, sent tens of thousands of soldiers to Afghanistan; the same who has authorized hundreds of drone attacks that have killed hundreds of civilians in several countries across the world; the same who participated in the plot that destroyed Libya; he who has armed the so-called Syrian opposition strengthening the self-named Islamic State; he who approved the supply of arms to Kiev after the coup; the President behind the “Arab spring” of fatal consequences in that area of the world. This is the same Obama, as the poet would say, who could do nothing to surprise you. In effect, there are two Obamas, a “good” one and a “bad” one. We’re not talking about a bipolar personality, but a single person, a career politician, who beyond his personal characteristics and history, his way of doing domestic politics, and even his individual inclinations, and his likely aim of leaving a legacy as the U.S. President who changed policy toward Cuba, he has always been and continues to be functional to the strategic interests of the powers that govern the U.S. It must be recognized that he is a politician with charisma, stage presence, a sense of media opportunity, communication skills - probably the best and most capable at hand today to disguise the strategic objectives of U.S. imperialism toward Cuba, Latin America and the Caribbean. During this visit to our country, President Obama did not miss any opportunity to call for an end to the blockade, which ultimately are the words of someone who will soon disappear from the U.S. government, phrases that he can state now, that he can claim responsibility for, as he does not aspire to, nor could he, run for another Presidential term. He can make this call as the formalities of the northern country's political system allow him to present himself as someone with no responsibility* whatsoever for the blockade, as someone opposed to the blockade, as the advocate of a new policy, when for almost all of his term he endorsed the blockade with his inertia. But back to his deficient speech. Since a thorough analysis can not be undertaken in a short article [1], I will only highlight some aspects that stand out at first glance while, as expressed by various analysts, much more is revealed by what he didn’t say, than the little he did, no matter how choice his words. This is the same Obama who could do much more given his Presidential powers and yet has not. This is precisely the point, to read between the lines of his statements, which is important especially for young people whose lived experiences of this northern neighbor do not include criminal sabotage, Playa Girón, the October crisis, counterrevolutionary groups, attacks against our leaders, biological aggression, and so on, and for whom the effects of the blockade have been mitigated by the protection offered by society and their families. There is no doubt: Obama is the gentle and seductive face of the same danger. He made no apology for crimes against Cuba, he did not mention the Guantánamo Naval Base, he did not speak of the Cuban Adjustment Act, he did not explain why he hasn’t done more to dismantle the blockade, given the powers he possesses to do so, and there were many other incredible omissions. Meanwhile, it was clear that he does not want to cooperate with Cuba, but rather with that part of our society which offers the best conditions for the strategic interests he represents. He hoped to seduce youth, encourage selfishness and the thirst for purely individual improvement, presenting capitalist growth as a universal panacea and not the cause of the crises, or the danger of the destruction of the environment and the disappearance of the human species. He hoped to contribute to the fragmentation of Cuban society in order to recover U.S. hegemony here and in our region. In his speech the conceited tone of someone who “grants us the right” – that no one need grant us – “to solve our own problems” was evident. We must now explain and demonstrate this. Obama's visit is a victory of the Cuban people and all peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, as it demonstrates that the United States of America has been forced to recognize that it was thwarted by our dignity, and has now chosen to concoct a detour. As such, we should recall the words of Julius Fučík at the end of its historical Report from the gallows and “be vigilant”. Obama concluded his visit to Cuba. He was – along with his beautiful family for whom Cubans have a natural affection – welcomed, treated and bid farewell politely by a people and authorities who are proud of their hospitality, respect and willingness to dialogue without impositions, but whose majorities are well aware of the land on which they stand, and are bursting with the sovereign spirit of Martí and Fidel, that spirit which was evident as the entire Latinoamericano Stadium chanted: “Raúl, Raúl, Raúl…” [1] In a book due to be published by the Editorial de La Mujer de La Habana, I dedicate an entire chapter to analysis of Obama’s speech at the White House on December 17, 2014, aspects of which I take up again here.
