George de Mohrenschildt and George H. W. Bush

On 5th September, 1976, George de Mohrenschildt wrote the following letter to George H. W. Bush:

Dear George,

You will excuse this hand-written letter. Maybe you will be able to bring a solution to the hopeless situation I find myself in.

My wife and I find ourselves surrounded by some vigilantes; our phone bugged; and we are being followed everywhere. Either FBI is involved in this or they do not want to accept my complaints. We are driven to insanity by the situation.

I have been behaving like a damn fool ever since my daughter Nadya died from (cystic fibrosis) over three years ago. I tried to write, stupidly and unsuccessfully, about Lee H Oswald and must have angered a lot of people I do not know. But to punish an elderly man like myself and my highly nervous and sick wife is really too much.

Could you do something to remove the net around us? This will be my last request for help and I will not annoy you any more.

Good luck in your important job.

Thank you so much.

George de Mohrenschildt

Several questions are raised by this letter:

1. Who had he been talking to about Oswald?

2. What had he been saying?

3. Why should he contact the director of the CIA about this?

I am not sure he does. Russ Baker writes about George de Mohrenschildt's meetings with Willem Oltmans. However, those meetings began in February 1977. De Mohrenschildt's letter is dated September 1976.

He does say that Jeanne and George de Mohrenschildt divorced in 1974. She claimed that "a doctor had appeared in Dallas for a brief period and administered injections to him. Following those injections, she said, George suffered a nervous breakdown, at which point she decided to have him hospitalized. The doctor, she claimed, vanished into thin air." p. 271. Above that quote, on the same page it says that she signed the commitment papers on November 9, 1976. The quoted passage cites an article by Jim Marrs in the Fort Worth evening Star Telegram, May 11, 1978 with a headline entitled "Widow Disputes Suicide."

One could almost assume the doctor appeared in response to the letter?

“DeMohrenshieldt’s wife told Jim Marrs, a Dallas reporter, ‘He must have still harbored guilt feelings about his work for Germans during World War II, because he told me, ‘It’s Jews, they’ve caught up with me,’” Grodin said.

In 1964, a CIA report states, ‘[George's daughter] Alexandra was being monitored by CIA’s James Jesus Angleton because she was having an affair with Mohammed al Fayed shortly after JFK assassination.’ James Jesus Angleton’s name is signed at bottom of that 41 page report. Under his signature is that of CIA asset, Jane Roman. Roman was CIA agent who record shows was charged with monitoring movements of Lee Harvey Oswald for two months preceding assassination.

That cited website actually used information without accreditation from Adamson:

De M was business partners with Mohamed Al Fayed in 1964. Fayed had an affair with Alexandra de Mohrenschildt and James Angleton of the CIA was interested in this.

It was reported (by a CIA informant ?) that Alexandra deMohrenschildt Gibson, daughter of George deMohrenschildt, while visiting her father in Haiti in December 1964 without her husband, Don, was dating Mohammed Fayed. Fayad purchased Harrods in London in early 1980s. (Fayed's son, Dodi, was killed in an automobile accident in Paris on August 31, 1997 that also killed English Princess Dianna.) Mohammed Fayed repeatedly applied for British citizenship but was denied each time. The last time he applied was Tues., 6/22/99. That time, he won permission to challenge the government's decision refusing him British citizenship. In 1999, Fayad was 66 years old.

Dr. DeLoach

Dr. Mendoza

Have these guys ever turned up in any MKULTRA intriques?

I'm also drawn to the US Army Inspector Generals Report on the Use of Human Subject in Chemical Agent Research, which lists Army contracts with affiliated institutions and doctors.

DeMohrenschildt's manuscript is extremely important, not only in giving us DeMohrenschildt's presumed mental state and memory at the time, but because of its details of how Oswald came to meet the Paines, supposidly a coincidental hapenstance, and the roles of J. Walton Moore of the CIA's Domestic Contacts Division and retired Adml. Chester Brouton, whose specialty was nuclear sub communications and worked at Collins Radio. (April 10, 1963, Walker/Thresher, and JFCOTT).

"I'm a Patsy!, I'm a Patsy!" is published in its entirity in the HSCA volumes.

Also make note of the fact that the rifle was sent to a PO box in Dallas and Alexandra DeMohrn Taylor and husband were listed on PO box application and may have had access to it.

John-

Has this letter been authenticated in any way?

Have you seen a copy of it?

Was it produced in response to a FOIA request?

The proximity in time of his death and the deaths of Giancana, Roselli, Hoffa and others are a little too coincidental to be unrelated. Hoffa's disappearance preceded the existence of the HSCA, but the others didn't.

They are kind of like the "suicide" of Abe "Kid Twist" Reles, a mob informer, about 50 years earlier. Not many people think he voluntarily exited the window of the high-rise apartment where he was being held in protective custody.

Thanks.

Chris

Yes it is genuine. This is an internal memo where Bush's refers to this letter (I have corrected his spelling):

I do know this man DeMohrenschildt.

I first met him in the early 40s. He was an uncle to my Andover roommate.

Later he surfaced in Dallas (50's maybe).

He got involved in some controversial dealings in Haiti.

Then he surfaced when Oswald shot to prominence. He knew Oswald before the assassination of President Kennedy.

I don't recall his role in all this.

At one time he had/or spent plenty of money.

I have not heard from him for many years until the attached letter came in.

Linda,

I would attest that even more significant and least understood is DeMohrenschildt's wife from Philadelphia, Dr. D. D. Sharples, whose father owned Colorado oil wells, and is still alive and a Trustee of Temple Univeristy, home of Joan Mellen and the Man on the Motorcycle in MC.

BK

Possibly so, but Sharples probably had nothing to do with Camarillo or the Oxnard phone call. What is intringuing about the Colorado oil wells, though, was that DeMohrenschildt was apparently working there during the time he was a partner of Edward G. Hooker, his brother Dimitry's wife's son. Hooker had been the man who introduced George to Lynn Sharples, who later became a doctor. All that happened before he met the love of his life, Jeanne LeGon, whose husband Robert lived in California with their daughter Christiana until he was sent off to the mental ward in Camarillo. I wonder if there was someone there trying to find out nuclear secrets from him. I seem to recall Jeanne's brother Sergei Fomenko was also involved in atomic research in California, working for Howard Hughes and Linnet Company of Beverly Hills; then Ramo-Wooldridge in Los Angeles; then North American Aviation.

Great work, Tom!

See if you can figure out the relationship between Edward Gordon Hooker's mother and the Marguerite/Margaret Williams who left money to George deMohrenschildt in her will and helped get him a job with Humble Oil.

Linda, thank you!

I cannot find a "Margaret", and if she existed, she is not listed in the family plot:

The testimony of George De Mohrenschildt, below, doesn't make much sense to me, in that he did not marry his first wife, (Dorothy) according to the available record, until three years after Marguerite Clark Williams died....so how could "his wife's sister", introduce him to Marguerite?

Mr. De MOHRENSCHILDT. But before that I was in Texas and worked for Humble Oil Co.

Mr. De MOHRENSCHILDT. Well, I went by bus--to Texas by bus. But what actually helped me was that my sister-in-law, my wife's sister, had a very, very close friend in Louisiana, Mrs. Margaret Clark--Margaret Clark Williams, who had large oil properties, large estates in Louisiana. That is about the year 1939.

I got to Louisiana, as the guest, I remember--with my sister-in-law's aunt, Mrs. Edwards. And then I looked the situation around in New Orleans and decided to apply for a job with Humble Oil Co.

Mr. JENNER. In New Orleans?

Mr. De MOHRENSCHILDT. No. They had a branch office in New Orleans, but I had to apply for a job in Houston. So I went to Houston, and I applied for a job with Mr. Suman, who is vice president of Humble Oil Co. Also I met the chairman of the board of the Humble Oil Co. through mutual acquaintances.

Mr. JENNER. Did you return to Louisiana and do some work there?

Mr. De MOHRENSCHILDT. Yes; I worked in Terebonne Parish, on a rig.

Mr. De MOHRENSCHILDT. Probably in 1939. And I got amoebic dysentery in Louisiana, and got very sick. I had an accident on the rig, was badly cut up-- something fell on my arm, and then I got dysentery. And, frankly, I do not recall whether they fired me or I resigned myself. I do not remember. Maybe both-- resigned and mutual agreement. But I remained very good friends with the chairman of the board of the company, Mr. Blaffer. And he gave me the idea already then to go in the oil business on my own. He says, "George, a man of your background and education, you should be working for yourself," and he explained to me the fundamentals of the oil promotion, if you know what I mean---drill wells, get a lease-- drill a well, find some money to drill that well.

Well, I said, "Mr. Blaffer, frankly it is a little above me to go in so early in my experience in the United States--to go into that type of business. I don't think I am capable enough to do that."

Mr. JENNER. Your Louisiana experience?

Mr. De MOHRENSCHILDT. Louisiana, Texas, the same company.

Pay-Per-View - Los Angeles Times - ProQuest Archiver - Apr 15, 1920

WAS IN HONOLULU FOR HEALTH WHEN END CAME VERY UNEXPECTEDLY.

The next step is to find who Edwards wife was. I don't have access to more than the above description. The odds of the "Mrs. Edwards" in the WC testimony, describing events 19 years after Walter Edwards' death, seem too thin to spend the money to see if Edwards' wife is named in the Proquest Obit.

I've searched 1910 and 1920 US Census records, and Edwards could have lived in NYC in 1910, he worked for Thomas Ince's New York based studios in the early teens, but there is a description of him directing an Ince picture at their Los Angeles location also.

Was Dorothy Pierson, who De MOHRENSCHILDT said he met in Palm Beach in 1941 or 1942, and married in 1943, his first wife, as I assume?

...and Linda.... this is a longshot....especially with George's disjointed WC testimony describing a "sister-in-law" he didn't have in 1939...
....Mr.

Also I met the chairman of the board of the Humble Oil Co. through mutual acquaintances....

Actor turned director, Walter Edwards, aka "Edward", born in Michigan on Jan. 8, 1870, was Marguerite Clark William's favorite director. Employed at Famous Players-Lasky Paramount studios, Edwards directed her last six "moving pictures", the final one just before his death on April 12, 1920:

One area that I may be able to provide some information is in reference to an earlier post by Tom.

I cannot find a "Margaret", and if she existed, she is not listed in the family plot:

But isn't that her below, or did I miss something?

Then there is the following, I do not know if it is the same person, and I was only able to post what I read from the google snippet view, or else I would have posted more info.......

On March 21, 1928, at Larchmont, New York, Laurence Moore Williams married the former Miss Margaret Swift Hooker, daughter of Kenneth Russell Hooker

and Bessie (Johnson) Hooker

this material was gleaned from a book entitled

The Story of Louisiana - E. A. Davis - J.F. Hyer Publishing Co., 1960 pertinent pages 240, 581.

All of this material reminds me of Bruce Campbell Adamson, who covered a lot of the same material but his stuff is a little erratic, unless you buy his footnotes along with his 10 or 11 Volumes of DeMohrenschildt material, I suppose........

anyone remember Adamson's titles such as the one below

Vol 6. Allen Dulles' Paine Must be Let Luce......lol

And the Warren Commission Documents, in this case are very pertinent

Betty Cartwright Hooker WC Vol 9 178, 195-199

Edward Hooker WC Vol 9 178, 195-199

Mrs. Marion Hooker WC Vol 9 178, 195-199

As Rachel Maddow might say, the following items are from the fun facts to know and tell Department.

The latter part is more for entertainment purposes, and it is anything but dull.......

The Dallas Morning News of November 16, 1950 featured a blurb dateline ABILENE, Texas, which read as follows:

Stephens Location

Special To the News

Hooker & De Mohrenschildt No. 1 Trammell is a new wildcat 900 from the south and 640 from the east lines of the SW/4 of 23-7-T&P, twelve miles south of Breckenridge, in Stephens County. Projected depth is 4,250 feet.

Additionally, when searching a subject like the DeMohrenschildt family, which covers a very broad time chronology, the mary ferrell archives contain a timeline, which, is indispensible in my opinion.....

The Links are below.
