Hi folks,

I am currently doing general research into the subject of Jack Ruby. I would be grateful if any members of the forum could advise me of any particular books, magazines, articles or documentaries that they would recommend as providing accurate, interesting and insightful informative on this subject.

All suggetions welcome, I would rather have too much information than too little.

Thanks for any help in this matter,

Regards

Tony

Book "Rush to Judgement" by Mark Lane. IMO good material on Ruby well referenced.

I am sure you have searched AMazon and found all the books on Ruby, but Seth Kantor's book is indispensable, and Melvin Belli's book is worth a look. You will find bits and pieces about Ruby in many assassination books. For example, There are two chapters in THE TRUTH ABOUT THE ASSASSINATION by Charles Roberts, published in 1967.

THe important Ruby interview in which he says the truth will not be allowed to come aboveboard is included in one segment of The Men WHo Killed Kennedy:

For an eye-opening revelation, examine Assistant DA BH Timmins' role in the Whitter-Miller Terrell armory arms heist and the prosecution of Ruby. The two are not unrelated.

A Robert Charles-Dunne sighting on the Education Forum is always good news.

Here is a short thread on Miller and Whitter: http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=2547

And from Greg Parker's website: http://reopenkennedycase.forumotion.net/jfk-f1/was-ruby-the-informant-in-the-terrell-case-and-were-any-of-those-weapons-used-in-the-assassination-t43.htm

Browder's co-defendant in the Canadian Stolen Securities case was Frank "Francesco"

Ferrara. Ferrara, who was indicted in his native city of New Haven, Connecticut, on two

counts of dealing in stolen securities, was arrested a month after Browder and promptly

jumped bail. A Frank Richard Ferraro became an employee of Jack Ruby in 1962. In

August the two men had a falling out and Ruby pounded Ferrara with a pair of brass

knuckles. When Ferrara checked into the hospital he used the name Ferraro. A day

after Jack shot OSWALD, the FBI questioned Ferrara in New Haven, Connecticut where

he worked as a bus driver. He told them he had worked for Ruby as a "handyman."

Other than the New Haven connection, there is no reason to believe these men are

identical. Browder's co-defendant in the Canadian Stolen Securities case was Frank

"Francesco" Ferrara. When the FBI questioned Hyman Godfrey, a friend of Barney

Ross, Hyman denied knowing RUBY. The FBI reported that when questioned further

"Godfrey indicated he would have his attorney telephone the FBI Office and a list of

questions could be furnished his attorney regarding this matter. Godfrey was bodyguard

for Frank Ferraro, Chicago hoodlum." [FBI 44-1639-169] The word "omit" appeared next

to this paragraph.

I can't find anything definite about the Frank Ferraro from New Haven who AJ Weberman described as the one in question in Lee's last post.

FERRARO, FRANK 17 Mar 1923 13 Oct 2003 (V) 80 06519 (New Haven, New Haven, CT)

Lee, I doubt the Frank Ferraro that Joe Valachi met at the airport had been working as a handyman in Ruby's club. I am reading Mary Ferrell's chronology,

...but what does this mean?

"Ferrara is probably not the 30 year-old, short stocky Jew who garage attendant Reeves says Jack pistol-whipped at Akard liquor stor corner in 1963."

...In September 1969, Frank Ferraro, the Carousel's handyman, became involved in a dispute at a nearby bar. Ruby told him not to get into a fight, and Ferraro told Ruby to mind his own business. Ruby then followed Ferraro to another club and beat him severely. Ferraro required emergency hospital treatment for his eye, but he decided not to press charges since Ruby paid for his hospital care.310 In March 1963, during an argument about wages, Ruby threatened to throw a cigarette girl down the stairs of the Carousel.311

...At approximately five that evening, Frank had a meeting with Tony Bender, the right hand man of Vito Genovese, at Chandler's Restaurant, on E49 Street. The place was owned by Joe 'Joe the Wop' Cataldo, a family member, so privacy was guaranteed. A third man made up the meeting-Vincent Mauro, aka Vinnie Morrow- a protégé of Bender's. In 1957 he was 41 years old, a seasoned veteran, and apparent hit man for the mob; he'd grown up in Greenwich Village and was close to many of men well know to dabble in drugs-Big John Ormento of the Lucchese Family, Tony Mirra of the Bonanno's, Sally Santoro of the Lucchese's, Patsy 'Patty Mush' Moccio and Joe Valachi of the Genovese Family (who in fact sponsored Mauro) to name just a few.

A man with a fearsome temper, Mauro had once beaten up the famous singer Billy Daniels at a club called “The Golden Key” in Manhattan. Mauro also, was a lot closer to Bender than he was to Frank.

What Costello didn't know that night, according to Valachi's testimony, is that exactly one week earlier, Vito Genovese had called his own meeting with Bender and Mauro, to tell them that Frank had “turned,” become an informer for the law, and had to be hit. Joe Valachi claimed Mauro told him that he was to carry out the shooting, but Valachi turned it down. Hard to believe, I know, and this is probably an example of the way Valachi twisted things to suit himself.

Valachi stated, he suggested Gigante as a possible shooter, (and we know how history proved that to be a bad decision,) and that he along with Tommy Eboli and “Dom the Sailor” DeQuatro made up the hit-team. But who dropped the dime to let these guys know when Frank left the restaurant to go back to the Majestic?...

Jack Ruby did have the Gloversville, NY telephone number of Joe Cataldo listed as an outgoing call on his telephone company

billing record in the months before November 1963. Ruby claimed it was a call related to AGVA enetertainment bookings, or

some such alibi. Investigators originally thought Ruby's roommate, George Senator had made that call. Gloversville, NY was an upstate New York town of 15,000, home of George Senator, Henry Crown's daughter-in-law, Renee, her brother, G. David Schine, and his father, Meyer Schine, generous host at his Miami hotel to yearly vacationers Hoover and Tolson. Joe Cataldo maintained a summer home in Gloversville. How did Ruby know where to call Cataldo in the summer?

Another important person to consider, at least in Dallas, is John B Wilson, Jr.

Wilson was Frank Ferraro's attorney and Wilson was interviewed by the FBI

report dated Jan. 16, 1964.

Commission Document 302 - FBI Clements Report of 17 Jan 1964 re: Jack Ruby/Oswald/Civil Rights

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=10703&relPageId=63

Wilson had some interesting things to say about the incident between Ruby and Ferraro, mainly from

a conversation he had with Ferraro. Such as, that he was bleeding so much he felt Ruby had used

brass knuckles, and that the Dallas Police were not reticent about arresting Ferraro, but were "extremely

reluctant to do anything about Ruby."

Wilson, as a matter of fact was the one who broke up the fight, at the Lasso Bar.

Lee and Robert, what concerns me here is the meaning of AJ Weberman's description. I wish I could read the source or it, [FBI 44-1639-169] and it is unclear from Weberman if that FBI document even includes the reference to the New Haven bus driver.

From Weberman's Nodule 33, taken from the longer quote in my last post.:

When Ferrara checked into the hospital he used the name Ferraro. A day

after Jack shot OSWALD, the FBI questioned Ferrara in New Haven, Connecticut where

he worked as a bus driver. He told them he had worked for Ruby as a "handyman."

Weberman is not clearly saying whether or not the FBI confirmed that the actual name of the man given at the hospital after he was assaulted by Jack Ruby in Sept., 1962, was Ferraro, or Ferrara.

Francesco Ferrara, on trial in New Haven federal court for handling some of $4 million worth of stolen Canadian bonds, according to a Hartford Courant report on 14 Jan., 1960, was 58 years old. An 5 Aug., 1964 Hartford Courant report states that Ferrara had been paroled from a federal prison after serving his Bond theft sentence on

1 May, 1963. He was described as being incarcerated again forviolating his parole by visiting casinos in Santo Domingo San Juan and Lucayan Beach in the Bahamas.

A Social Security death index search comes up with this likely result, the ages matches the 1960 newspaper description as does the state of issue, Massachusetts, since

Francesco was a Boston race wire publisher. http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi

FERRARA, FRANCESCO 17 Sep 1901 Mar 1973 71 89450 (Incline Village, Washoe, NV) Massachusetts

So, unless we get more information, Jack Ruby's former employee, roommate, and victim is one Frank Richard Ferraro or Ferrara, confirmed by an FBI agent to have been driving

a bus in New Haven, CT in late 1963 or in early 1964.

On edit, Ferraro it is.:

Might suggest you read the transcript of the man who administered Ruby's lie detector test for the Warren Commission. He was questioned twice, once by the Warren Commission attorneys and I believe by an attorney for the HSCA. They both questioned the man about an annomally that appears on the printed test record that was not noted with an explanation at the time of the test (a movement by Ruby was not reported and written on the paper feed as was done when Ruby made other movements during the test, at least that was the conclusion made by the attorneys to explain it). If you find it, it may lead you to an interesting place.

Have fun

The street address, 53 Parmelee New Haven, in the FBI report of 26 November, 1963 displayed in my last post, led me to Frank Ferraro's brother Edward, and their family record in the 1930 US Census. Their father was Pasquale, proprietor of a candy store, Frank is represented as "Francis R." age 7, just above Edward W., the youngest. Edward's age in the census page is consistent with the age reported at the time of his death in 2006, age 80. How was it that Frank ended up in Dallas in 1962, at age 39, with almost no money, if he had the skill and license classification to drive a bus?

Why did the guys Jack Ruby took in seem to be middle aged men from the northeast; how did such men wind up in Dallas, when there seemed to be much more opportunity in the NYC metro area where they were born and raised, than in Dallas?

Well, I certainly see your point about Weberman's quote regarding Ferrara using the name Ferraro, but I really think these are

definitely two different people.

At NARA there are 14 hits under Ferraro and 4 under Ferrara.....

Ferrara, at least in 1958 was living in a hotel in Chicago...

He ties in with the Chicago mob, one document lists Trafficante in the subject line.

In November 1963, Ferraro was living in Miami, Florida....

See two document excerpts below

[November 8, 1963] Frank Ferrara 2120 Sunset Drive Sunset Island No 4 Miami, Beach Florida was interviewed

at his place of employment the W.G.N. Flag and Decorating Company.........

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=134827&relPageId=2

.....In 1953 “Strongy” Ferraro resided in Whittier, California and that he was known in California as a leading associate of leading

Sicilian mobsters band that he had been described by Los Angeles police informants as “the number four man” of the Chicago

Crime Syndicate, ranking beneath Gus Alex, Marshall Caifano, Et Al.
