The Council of International Schools (CIS) is a not-for-profit association of schools and post-secondary institutions working collaboratively for the continuous improvement of international education. The Resource and Information Service supports schools in gaining access to a current, worldwide knowledge base through promoting research and disseminating information. The London Recruitment Fair takes place at the Thistle Hotel, Marble Arch (5th to 8th February, 2004).

International Visits

As a teacher in a school with international status I was fortunate enough to go on an educational trip to America . The trip had a joint focus of ICT and SEN . The experience was both exhilarating and informative, providing insight into alternative policy and practice . While in Atlanta I met many interesting teachers whose hospitality I would like to have returned. The school at which I teach welcomes international visitors and I would always consider hosting visits from international members.Has anyone any views on this or had any experiences of short stay visits?

Comenius 1 offers three types of school partnership project. These three options provide opportunities to undertake joint curriculum-based work in either a bilateral or multilateral partnership, or work with partner schools on management and development issues.

These run for a maximum of three years, involving at least three schools or colleges across at least three countries, within the curriculum of each participating country.

The project grant is split into two parts. The first part, called the Standard Grant, is worth up to €2,000 for co-ordinating schools and up to €1,500 for partner schools per project year. This covers the general costs to the school, including language tuition, stationery, software, project materials and communication costs (e.g. telephone bills).

The second part, or Variable Grant, covers the costs of travel and subsistence for up to six staff and four students per project year to visit their partner countries. The grant awarded depends on the number of travellers, the country travelled to, and the duration of the stay.
