A Proposed Research Topic for Tom Scully

I compiled this info, taken from several free internet souces. You are correct, Tom, personal info on the guy is scant.

No obit, no FBI related news. I found one article, circa 1970, where he is warning local Michigan LEO about the threat of bombings of their

offices, and that he knows the security measures to be implemented will be an inconvenience.

Thanks, Tom

I guess W. Marvin Gheesling will just always be a "mystery man". I wonder what his first name was? He died at the relatively young age of 61... Hmmm.

Tom,

Just out of curiosity, I wonder what kind of name "Gheesling" is? Interesting name. Since his brother Virgil was a Baptist, I assume that it's not (pardon the expression) a "Jewish" name (lol). German or Dutch perhaps?

Thanks,

William Marvin Gheesling. A "mystery man" who had the perversely exquisite sense of timing to cancel the long-standing (October 31, 1959 to October 8, 1963) FBI warning "flash" on Oswald right when the FBI was getting a report that LHO had met with Kostikov at the Russian Embassy in Mexico City... Hmmm.

Tom, the earliest Gheesling of the Virgil/ William Marvin line was a Charles or William, born 1740, location unknown, died in Tuscaloosa, AL, in 1843, which is disputable, because he would have been 103 years old. The name is unusual and if the country of origin does surface, it will have to come from an obscure source.

Interestingly, there is a contemporary, pop culture link, and even some video with W. Marvin's wife's image.:

Last post: Sep 14, 2008

Dan mentioned his grandfather being in the FBI and involved in the JFK investigation. FOTH Looking up Gheesling and JFK on Google, ...

Dan Gheesling's grandmother, possibly W. Marvin's wife, appears at about 3:50 :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcG62lUGta8

Grandson Dan states that he is concerned that Obama is seducing the votes of the uneducated, but if Hillary is elected, Dan will leave the country.

He comes off as a typical, sexist, 19th century, Christian missionary, quite full of himself. Then again, the video was produced and promoted by a Catholic entity.

I would not want Dan teaching my child, but his views seem fairly typical of Americans of his generation, at least in "fly over" country.

I just read this, and I guess I am not the only one who formed this first impression, then again, this is the communist traitor, Michael Moore talking.... Moore's interest is related to his general interest in all things related to Michigan, and Dan is from Dearborn.

Gheesling talks about Big Brother victory

-By Mike Moore-

He entered the house with drums banging and guns blazing.

He pronounced his religious beliefs, as a Catholic high school teacher, in perfect accord with his political viewpoint, saying he would leave the United States if Hillary Clinton was ever elected president.

When the country was first introduced to Dearborn resident and 2001 Divine Child grad Dan Gheesling, opinions of him ranged somewhere between arrogant and cocky, as if there was much difference.

But now, some three months later, the CBS reality show and Big Brother 10 winner is being hailed as one of the game’s best players ever. He planned and schemed perfectly. He formed alliances when needed, and dissolved them equally as fast.

Most importantly, according to the winner himself, he did it all while upholding his character, practicing his faith, and standing firm in the beliefs he entered the house with.

I caught up with Gheesling recently, asking him about the process to joining the show, what it was like to win, and everything in between....

Was he banished to "Siberia" as ordered by Hoover? Did his income rise substantially? Just wondering.

He was employed by the FBI's Detroit office as late as in 1970, according to the one newspaper article I could find where he was quoted. I posted about it earlier.

SSDI search indicated he died in a Detroit suburb at age 61, and his family still lived in that area, so it looks like his banishment from a more prominent position in the DC metro area was permanent.

The FBI told the HSCA that Gheesling had retired.:

http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?mode=searchResult&absPageId=1264938

There is also a handwritten notation on a document warning field offices not to use him in a supervisory role. (I cannot come up with the link now, but I read it just a few days ago. It went into the FBI desire to avoid a Civil Service hearing, citing a previous disciplinary case where a hearing had to be conducted. It named the military veterans among the group of agents to be "banished" and it stated that Gheesling would experience no reduction in pay, so as to avoid a hearing.)
