On this day in 1963, President Kennedy departs Andrews AFB for Texas.

I read this in the Fort Worth Star Telegram many years ago.  The "Christmas " lights on the taller buildings in downtown Fort Worth lining their edges and roof's (all white) were first put up in November 1963 not (just?) for Christmas.  They were put up to honor the President on his visit, and, as he would arrive at night illuminate the city in a positive manner.  Never read if he looked out the window on approach and saw them.  Guess he would have on the drive in from Carswell and when he arrived at the hotel Worth in down town.  They brought in world class artworks, paintings, sculptures from the collections of I believe Amon Carter among others to decorate their room.  While the working people of both cities lined the parade routes in them (last word's he ever heard, from Nellie Connally: "You can't say that Dallas doesn't love you Mr. President", response, "That is certainly true"), it was not quite the same ultimate response he received in Dallas.

The scene where 55 years ago today JFK gave his last public speech as it is today.  I went there a few years ago to see it and take pictures.  While pondering an older I think employee of the former Hotel Texas came out and by and paused and said "He was a great man".  I smiled and said yes he was.

This tells it a little better but still not completely.
