The consumer goods world was struggling to build a better electric shaver. I remember teaching Geography out of a textbook just humane enough to say that most humanitarian aid and corporate revenues bound for Africa disappeared into the coffers of dictators. The book also offered that the end of colonialism created African politicians who were sui generis, not sophisticated enough to stand up to Western economics. Gee, a trend, since Lumumba?
