Speaking of Texans.  Our Covid numbers are up.  Statewide and locally.  Students are coming in July.

This is the ultimate Education Forum non sequitur, Ron, but, speaking of Texas, have you watched the outstanding Netflix documentary about ZZ Top?

I didn't realize that Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard have now been together for over 50 years!

Those three old boys gotsta get paid for their years of hard work!  🤥

Under-rated Texas psychedelia, pre ZZ Gibbons.

Gibbons tells a story in the ZZ Top documentary about the Moving Sidewalks opening for Jimi Hendrix in '68, and playing Purple Haze and Foxy Lady.  As they exited the stage after their set, Hendrix was standing in the wings and he said to Gibbons, "You've got a lot of nerve, boy!  I like that!"

I agree that Gibbons was an under-rated prodigy, even then.

You probably already know the 25 lighters is a reference to a way to sell drugs inside them.  Or so I read when this song came out.  Inspiration from an article about the streets of Houston in the early 2000's if I remember right.

I saw them once in the 70's in Dallas Memorial Auditorium where JFK once gave a campaign speech and General Walker held rallies.  Gibbons went into this aside as a blues song slowed down about playing there years before, walking the streets and finding a guy who sold them a matchbox full of weed.

The first time I saw them in the fall of 73 at Tarrant County Convention center they played 45 minutes to an hour. I thought what? Huh?  Then they came back for 5 or 6 encore's.  Weird but cool.

An old friend recommended the Netflix documentary about a month ago.  I was floored by the background, detail and pictures.  It was a joy to watch while sheltering in place.

As you link Gottsa Get Paid, the first album I bought of by them was Rio Grande Mud.  Which eventually led to this 80's version of . . .

There is a really good article on this at Med Page today by Judy Melinek.

She says that when all is said and done, the number will end up being too low.

I am not an epidemiologist by any means.  But i do know that to them the key number is excess deaths above the norm.

If you go by GOP logic, then somehow we really have a pneumonia or heart disease pandemic. Maybe both?

I don't think so..

Check out 13th on Netflix!  Great documentary about the history of institutionalized racism in America, up to this day. Some great old   old footage, some of which I've seen before.

This case is an excellent example of why police need fundamental reform.

They have too many functions to do.  This case was not a police case.  You needed. a social worker to get the guy home making sure he was not driving.

Are you suggesting that we decriminalize driving under the influence?

That would require decriminalizing DUI, thus depriving municipalities of fines.  You're talking land reform here, and that's socialist.
