James McCord and Watergate

In his book, A Piece of Tape - The Watergate Story: Fact and Fiction. McCord claims that Dorothy Hunt told him that her husband, E. Howard Hunt, had "information which would impeach the President (Nixon)".

McCord also wrote: "The Watergate operation was not a CIA operation. The Cubans may have been misled by others into believing that it was a CIA operation. I know for a fact that it was not."

The point, how could McCord "know for a fact" that the "Watergate operation was not a CIA operation".?

McCord was in on some of the early meetings with Liddy and Mitchell et al in which break-ins for political intelligence were discussed. He was the chief of security for CRP and did personal security work for people like Mitchell as well. As a result, he felt quite confident that the break-in was done on behalf of CRP. After all, he knew who asked him to bug O'Brien, and he knew damn well it wasn't because O'Brien had been in contact with Castro, as Hunt had incorrectly told the "Cubans." (Sorry, Tim.)
