In this edition Welch discusses the upcoming 1960 election, and begrdudgingly endorses Nixon, claiming he would be better than "Walter Reuther, or even Reuther's stooge, Jack Kennedy." Walter Reuther died in a plane crash in the late nineteen sixties. Do you have any knowledge or suspicions of JBS involvement in his death? Did the same men who talked of killing Kennedy talk of killing Reuther? Interesting point. Walter Reuther was one of JFK's key left-wing advisers. He was also close to Martin Luther King and had been urging JFK to make a stand on the civil rights issue. In 1960 Reuther was one of those who condemned JFK when he appointed LBJ as his running mate. Reuther was one of those "communists" that J. Edgar Hoover believed was turning King to the "far left". Reuther was involved in the organization of both the March on Washington for Freedom and Jobs (August, 1963) and the Selma to Montgomery March (March, 1965). When he was killed in 1970 Reuther was one of the leading opponents of the Vietnam War. We now know that members of the Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) were during this period targeting anti-war leaders in a series of bomb attacks. Maybe it was the YAF who were behind this "accident"? Reuther published this open letter to Richard Nixon just days before his death. Your decision to invade the territory of Cambodia can only increase the enormity of the tragedy in which our nation is already deeply and unfortunately involved in that region. Widening the war at this point in time once again merely reinforces the bankruptcy of our policy of force and violence in Vietnam. Your action taken without consultation or authorization by the Congress has created a serious Constitutional crisis at a time when there is growing division in our nation. By your action you have driven the wedge of division deeper and you have dangerously alienated millions of young Americans. The bitter fruits of this growing alienation and frustration among America's youth have been harvested on the campus of Kent State University, where the lives of four students were ended by the needless and inexcusable use of military force. The problem. Mr. President, is that we cannot successfully preach nonviolence at home while we escalate mass violence abroad. It is your responsibility to lead us out of the Southeast Asian War - to peace at home and abroad. Gibbs, NY office [and headquarters] Director, who appears to have also been on assignment. Can you shed any light at all on Lee Harvey Oswald? Would he have also be working for the FBI, or the CIA, or ? The indications clearly seem to imply that he was working as a low-level operative - doing work to infiltrate a number of various groups and organizations - but I still don't understand what his true role was, and how the conspirators managed to twist it to their own ends. Did he somehow manage to infiltrate and learn of Edwin Walker's plans? The theory that seems most logical is that the entire Walker pot-shot was a set-up - however, it seems feasible that Oswald could have actually learned something and tried to take him out. His denial of having owned a rifle following his arrest, when juxtaposed with Marina's testimony is somewhat baffling. Walker at the very outset said that his aid reported two suspicious men drove at high speed from the Mormon Church parking lot in the rear alley of Walker's residence. His reported activities convince me he was laboring for FBI/CIA since returning from Russia. Certainly he fell as a result of being deeply involved for U.S. Intelligence, in contrasting groups. Gibbs, NY office [and headquarters] Director, who appears to have also been on assignment. Can you shed any light at all on Lee Harvey Oswald? Would he have also be working for the FBI, or the CIA, or ? The indications clearly seem to imply that he was working as a low-level operative - doing work to infiltrate a number of various groups and organizations - but I still don't understand what his true role was, and how the conspirators managed to twist it to their own ends. Did he somehow manage to infiltrate and learn of Edwin Walker's plans? The theory that seems most logical is that the entire Walker pot-shot was a set-up - however, it seems feasible that Oswald could have actually learned something and tried to take him out. His denial of having owned a rifle following his arrest, when juxtaposed with Marina's testimony is somewhat baffling. If Oswald was the only member in New Orleans, why would there have been others assisting in the distribution of the leaflets, and why on earth would it have been photographed? The man assisting Oswald, as well as the Asian looking individual seen at left - to the best of my knowledge have never been identified - are either of these individuals familiar? As such, the Review Board's routine processing of federal agency records from Warren Commission files and files concerning other congressional committees encompassed records on the FPCC. Not all FPCC records, however, found their way into the existing collections. Where Review Board staff noticed gaps in the documentation regarding the FPCC, it requested that federal agencies provide access to additional records and information. a. FBI field office files. When the FBI processed its "core and related" files and "HSCA Subject" files, it processed the FBI Headquarters file on the FPCC, but it did not process any records from the FBI's New York and Dallas field office files on the FPCC. To the powers that now exist, I have been little more than a dead man on furlough. The agencies that I have labored for are, long ago, under new directors that quickly pointed threatening guns in my direction. They hoped I was silenced, until “their kind” in official positions of public trust, with malice aforethought, denied justice in the criminally negligent death of my youngest son. They have continued to do so for almost a half dozen years. They had, with occult cunning, weaved themselves into the total American political and social fabric and, working secretly for decades, “their kind”, by the assassination of John F. Kennedy, were enabled to seize control of the nation and the fate of every individual. Our endless efforts to gain “a day in court” have met with failure. My dear wife, stricken with puerilism and heart problems, was gone within four years. The remaining young adult children are scattered, our family and hearts broken. At a later debriefing with Central Intelligence and m usual Internal Security contact agents, when asked if I believed that the Cuban people would rise against Castro during an invasion by the U.S., I stated, “It is my sad duty to inform you that they will not attempt to aid in overthrowing that government.” Giving the reasons, and apologizing for having to make such an unpopular report that suggested my relatively dangerous and uncomfortable mission was unsuccessful. Only a short time before the April, 1961 CIA-backed invasion actually took place, Castro’s Chief of Staff, Juan Orta, defected. Frerie, the Cuban Consular, also defected and was replaced by Grassielle, a female Cuban Communist. During this on-going Cuban problem and the “Fair Play Communist Front” threat, which was top priority with all U.S. Intelligence and Internal Security agencies, it was my opportunity, as a double agent, to intervene on behalf of three anti-Castro, American raiders. They had become lost and were adrift in Havana harbor. Captured, they were to be executed as spies. Without great difficulty I was able to convince Havana to spare Lenard Schmidt and his two companions from this fate of so many others, among them, Major William Morgan of Ohio (officer in the Cuban Revolutionary Army and executed by Castro’s firing squad). By convincing revolutionary authorities of the propaganda value “to our cause in the United States” the three were instead, sentenced to thirty years terms. They were released in a U.S. – Cuban deal one year later. After the unsuccessful Bay of Pigs invasion, and the wholesale capture of more than twelve hundred war prisoners, certainly leading Americans, with the unofficial blessing of the Kennedy administration, organizing a “Tractor for Prisoner Committee”. The Committee included influential AFL-CIO Union President Walter Reuther, Milton Eisenhower (brother of the Former U.S. president), Elenore Roosevelt, and other famous persons. They were to raise thirty-five million dollars for the purchase of 500 huge D-9 Catapiller earthmoving tractors. These were to be exchanged with Castro for the captured invasion survivors. Even as mot of the equipment was readied on the Florida docks for shipment to Cuba, Castro, who had originally suggested the idea and desperately wanted the trade off, suddenly rejected the deal. It was again a breach of my spy position to influence official dealings between governments, under U.S. Criminal Procedure, Title 18. This effort worried me for years until I at last realized that under all the concern, the operation was technically unofficial. Then there was the statute of limitations that allowed protection from prosecution. President Kennedy stated on July 5, 1961, “the Tractor Committee has done everything conceivable, but Mr. Castro has not accepted.” The tractor-prisoner deal failed as a direct result of the “self-created” misinformation transmitted to Castro by this “trusted agent”. It was the hidden factor that no one would suspect. Even Castro’s “war prisoners committee” sent to the U.S. for on-sight inspections of the tractors under construction could not have hoped to detect, or even suspect, such destructive actions. The urgent last minute treachery convinced Castro that the tractors were, in fact, being built “metallurgically unsound”. The tractors and spare parts would crack and break down after little use, and missile launching pads could not be built in Cuba with such junk! My fellings against Castro had increased over the years because of his unjust treatment of fellow revolutionaries who had given their all to overthrow the murderous tyranny of the Fulgencio Batista government in Cuba, only to be imprisoned or executed by Castro after the war. The list is long, and these are yet remembered as the dedicated, youthful heros of the true Cuban revolution. None of them were communists. Their only politics were liberty! In fouling up the tractor-prisoner plan, I was striking another blow against the totalitarian dictator who betrayed the aspirations of a suffering nation. Nothing was wrong with the tractors. The prisoners were finally freed in late 1962 by another U.S. Cuba, sixty-four million dollar deal in medical supplies. Many Americans, Cubans and the war prisoners themselves, opposed the tractor deal, saying it would be a super-propaganda victory for Castro. In destroying these efforts two things occupied my thoughts. One was a propaganda defeat for Castro, the other was in saving the U.S. thirty-five million dollars. I was always concerned that my side-ventures from regular assignments might be discovered. But there were never any regrets! I would repeat the actions if I had to be in that position again. Anyway, it was sort of “on-the-job training,” for the lowly spy. My assignments were increased to include some anti-Castro groups and individuals in the U.S. as some of them were being led by pro-Castro agents. Of interest to U.S Internal Security was illegal weapons purchases by these Castro provocateurs, and their aid in passing other Castro agents into and out of the U.S. Among these agents that entered the Southern California district was the daring Ernesto “Che” Guavara. I was shown photos of this skillfully disguised Latin American businessman, Castro’s second-in-command. The pictures were forwarded from the CIA station in Mexico. Internal Security dispatched me to seek him out from among the questionable Cuban groups. Guavara was moving fast, under deep cover that I failed to penetrate. Good fortune, however, placed the (DGI) agent Fransisco Vega into my hands. Vega had entered the U.S. illegally and was then in New York City. With great pleasure I gave him to my federal agent contacts. Two Revolutions At Once A second revolution was raging. The liberal establishment in the U. S. was under attack by ultra-conservative forces that had begun to organize in 1958. This fast growing power absorbed the anti-Castro movement there. They used these Cubans to further their own “rightist” goals, such as the American Communist Party was doing in exploiting the opposing pro-Castro Cubans. But among the new and widespread “rightist” movement were assassin-minded persons that would take action to aid in seizing control of the U.S. Government if only given the word! So we welcome into the society A, who disagrees with B’s ideas of how to fight Communists; and B who dislikes A; and C who looks scornfully at them both; and D who is too rabid; and E who is too restrained ; and F who can stand nobody except those who land on middle ground; and G who wants to get his gun and come out shooting (if only we would say the word). The Mechanics of the Movement…. JBS, Vanguard of LDS In the natural flow of events during my regular activities in intelligence operations in 1962, I was made aware of the new rightist (conservative movement), and became a sincere member as did a great number of other Republicans. The John Birch Society (JBS) was an invention and political extension of the Church (Latter Day Saints (LDS), Mormon). The JBS infrastructure was an exact miniature of the church designed to serve as it’s political arm in reaching where the Church was forbidden to go by U.S. laws of Church-State separation. An extremely costly seizure of the Republican Party was the urgent and powerful first step taken by LDS-JBS for entrance into the legitimate political scene ( a relentless goal of the Church hierarchy since it’s 1830 founding). Their revival and the use of the name “conservatism” was merely as a title, a semantic weapon , to display opposition to the liberalism that dominated both Democrat and Republican parties, choking and limiting both political conservatism and Church ambitions. The more important purpose in exploiting this title was its value to draw-in the sincere, influential and ideological conservatives to serve our cause in many ways. We were also instructed to infiltrate the Democratic Party apparatus at every level. The Democratic Party was taken over from the bottom and the top and it’s liberalism was forever neutralized! Constant repeating of the final solution that would violently remove what these subversives believed to be a pro-communist Kennedy elated the more radical followers of the rebellion. Using automatic weapons, grenades, and other ordinance, the super-patriot assassins would, at the expected cost of their own lives, kill the President! It was later reported that at least 350 Federal and State security agents were on assigned duty at the Trade Mart on November 22, 1963. Even being tight-knit with the individuals involved, except for bits and pieces of confusing information, I failed to timely detect a clearer picture of the real and more subtle plot to kill the president. The plan moved relentlessly and Kennedy’s final days dwindled swiftly away. I reported the scare details as they developed, to my Intelligence contacts. But a “need-to-know” method of secrecy was being applied among my radical associates. Guy “Babby”Gabaldon, the casual but cruel ex-Marine, World War II hero of Saipan, was at any instant in contact with the principals and financers of the intrigue. But he alone directed and manipulated the foot soldiers of infamy. Excelsior said Oswald crossed the border at Lardo, (sic) Tex., on Sept. 26 and drove to Mexico City, where on Sept. 28 he called on the consulate general of Cuba and asked for a transit visa to Moscow by way of Havana. The United States customs services at Laredo, confirmed the crossing, a spokesman said. “There are records to establish this.” The records also showed Oswald reentered the United States Oct. 3. When Kennedy visited Mexico City in late June of 1962, Gabaldon, in league with some rightist Mexican Federal Police Officials, was set to shoot the president. Only a last minute escape problem aborted that attempted assassination scheme! In late August, 1963, Gabaldon and I kept an appointment with former U.S. Congressman John H. Rousellot, then Western Director of the John Birch Society at his San Marino, California office. Gabaldon picked up ten thousand dollars as pre-arranged from Rousselot. The money was for the “Mexico Operation.” Some of these funds were given to Lee Oswald. Two other of our anti-Castro, anti-communist associates, Lawrence John “Larry” Howard – AKA Lorenzo Pacillo, were dispatched by Gabaldon (all were of Latin American descent) to enlist Oswald in the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). In late September, 1963, Oswald accompanied the pair to Gabaldon’s Mexico City area office. Oswald then received instructions and the funds from the impressive, but phony CIA “office” Gabaldon. The fate of both Oswald and Kennedy were there, forever sealed! The trio later returned to the U.S. Hall and Howard eventually to California, and Oswald to Texas where two weeks later, October 15, 1963, he began working at the book depository building in Dallas. The poor slob was awaiting further instructions from another fake CIA contact that, among other details, requested him to deliver weapons, supposedly to be picked up at his workplace along with other weapons to be donated and used by anti-Castro raiders. The names Alonzo and Lorenzo were the former given names of Howard and Hall, and used by them as so-called “war names.” In the 1964 Warren Report, the Cuban refugee, Mrs. Sylvia Odio and her sister Annie Lauri Odio reported a September 25, 1963 meeting with Angelo, Leopoldo, and Leon Oswald, who spoke of shooting the president. Odio, limited in English phonics, misquoted the names Alonzo, Lorenzo and Lee. Originally, Hall confirmed to the FBI agents that they were at Odio’s residence. Gabaldon returned again from Mexico for a brief visit to his family in El Monte, California in September, 1963. He and I readied a huge mass of medical drugs and supplies gathered from several (LDS) doctors throughout Southern California. Some medical drugs were slated for Gabaldon’s JBS front operation called DACA (Drive Against Communist Agression) in Mexico. The majority of these supplies were destined to accompany Hall and Howard’s car and trailer load of weapons and ammunition to No Name Key in Florida. The goods were to aid “La Sombra” (The Shadows), an anti-Castro raider group under the command of Hall. This effort was organized by (LDS) W. Cleon Skousen and (JBS) John H. Rousselot, and chaired by anti-Castro Cubans. It was not a CIA operation. “People think of us as wholly or primarily an anti-Communist organization. This causes many misunderstandings. Later plans using an attack boat, donated by a wealthy New York JBS member, were unsuccessful and the vessel was also seized. After being released from any charges, the defeated raiders split up. Hall and Howard, at Gabaldon’s direction, to New Orleans, Louisiana, picked up Oswald and continued on to Dallas, Texas where they made several stops to raise desperately needed funds. The three then crossed the boarder and drove to Mexico City on the same day, a September 26, 1963 Dallas newspaper report confirmed it’s earlier September 13 announcement of Kennedy’s visit to Dallas. All such information had no significance to those who desired to hasten his death. Kennedy’s Dallas trip was a non-secret. It was known and leaked months earlier by termite (white ants) and mole-agents-in-place that lurked for over sixty years in every working agency, service and bureau of the U.S. government.
