Did Herminio Diaz Garcia really die in 1966?

Thanks Larry. Notice that both at one time worked for Santo Trafficante.

David,

Wasn't Trafficante rumored to have been an informant for the guy who had let him out of prison whilst the other mobbed-up (former) casino owners remained incarcerated, i.e., Fidel Castro?

Has that theory been discredited?

David, as best I can recall there have been rumors that  Diaz Garcia worked as a bodyguard for Trafficante in Cuba however what we know factually is that he worked in casinos, was actually a member of the restaurant workers union and worked his way up to head of security in one casino - can't find the name off hand.  If it was Trafficante's that might explain the bodyguard thing but since he only came out of Cuba in 63, with his family, he can't have been too close to him and it does not seem that he went to work in his network afterwards. I don't know of any specific connection for de Torres other than to his brothers well established detective agency in Miami.

The informant on 7/2/64, furnished information relative to reported plans of Cuban hoodlums living in Miami to raise funds under the guise  of promoting a plot to assassinate FIDEL CASTRO. Information concerning this has been furnished to the Bureau by teletype and letterhead memoranda. The informant identified the "Cuban gangster" as HERMINIO DIAZ of New York and Miami. He advised that DIAZ was known as "a big gangster in Cuba."

Thanks David, I do vaguely recall that document now but honestly I could not parse the remarks between what De Torres was offering as a source on drug trafficking and what the redacted DEA source might be saying about De Torres....I also couldn't tell if it was the redacted source relating gossip that De Torres was associated with Trafficante or whether that was a remark from the DEA agent or even a note from Lopez.  Given that I think I just passed on by it when I first read it...

JIm Harwood wanted me to post this piece of information:

" I'm surprised these researchers dont know the Diaz family is sitting right there in Atlanta. They own the Columbus GA insurance company AFLAC as well as managing the Georgia State Employee Pension fund.

They are related to the late Fidel Castro by marriage (Fidel's oldest son a Diaz just committed suicide at age 68). The grandfathers Salvidor"Verson" Diaz appears in the Torbitt Documents as well as the Warren Commission.

Hard to believe that no JFK researcher has identified them and tried to speak with them."

Jim Harwood,

It should be pointed out that Mr. Richards, the initiator of this thread, has spoken with several members of the Diaz family regarding Herminio Diaz Garcia and the assassination. A search of this forum or some of the Facebook groups related to the assassination may be in order if this is news to anyone.

James' primary research and contributions to this case are considerable. I would suggest that anyone here not familiar with what he has freely offered over the course of many years do a little digging.
