Although an extremely "minor" connection to the subject matter has been made,

(Byrd's, Planes, and Automobile) in relationship to David Harold Byrd, there has been to date, very little presented as regards the "Airplane" connections to LHO.

Perhaps, one should fully investigate this subject as:

1. William D. Pawley was formerly the director of the "Flying Tigers" of China fame prior to WWII, through the company CAMCO.

And, in fact, was closely associated with the Cuban Airline prior to Castro's rise to power.

2. Claire Chennault, legendary hero of the Flying Tigers, was originally from Louisiana, (born in Texas, reared in and claimed Louisiana as his home) and in fact died at Touro Infirmary, New Orleans.

3. David Harold Byrd, owner of the TSDB from which JFK was assassinated, was the first cousin to Senator Byrd of Virginia, as well as being closely associated with the Civil Air Patrol and other aspects of air history.

4. David Ferrie, of course, was in the CAP with LHO, as well as a former airline pilot.

5. LHO was offered a position as a baggage handler at Love Field, just prior to JFK having visited Dallas.

6. Jack Ruby's notebook contained the name of an individual who worked for an airline company at Love Field.

7. Just prior to his release from the Marine Corps, an airline stewardess, who's home was in fact Louisiana, visited LHO at El Toro, CA; dated LHO, and spoke russian with him. (Rosaleen Quinn)

8. Old "vintage" WWII aircraft were utilized in the coup in Guatemala as well as the Bay of Pigs (whatever it was).

9. George DeMohrenschildt, while in New Orleans, had direct contact with Mrs. Margaret Clark Williams, wife of early aviation pioneer Harry P. Williams, for whom the Harry P. Williams airport at Patterson, LA is named after.

10. LHO of course had a rifle carrying strap which came from an old Army Air Corps/Air Force shoulder holster pistol.

Needless to say, there is, as in advertising, "Much, Much, More".

Despite what many may think, the "mission" was an engineered and "designed failure".

There were some twenty old B-26 Invaders pulled from stock and sold to the CIA front organization "Intermountain Aviation" for use.

The pilot were, as most are aware, ready to go in on the attack. But were denied the authority.

Some who ignored the order died!

It should also be mentioned that the Guatemalan Air Force had also been provided with the same aircraft for training of the pilots.

There are many direct connections between the early pioneers of aviation and persons who have links to the JFK assassination.

Not unlike the "kinship" links of New Orleans, LA, these answer many of the questions as to how these various persons became "interacted", and their connections and enterprises provided knowledge which was obviously utilized by those responsible for the actuall assassination.

Also, not unlike the myriad of "Louisiana Corporations", one can easily become lost on the playing field.

Air combat history fully demonstrates what happens to slow bombers which are sent into combat without benefit of fighter air cover, when the opposing force has even minimal fighter aircraft air support.

The Claire Chennault/William Pawley "Flying Tigers" initially demonstrated the fallacy of this tactic when they decimated bombing attacks which the Japanese were making against China prior to WWII.

Therefore, if designed to succeed, standard air attack tactics would have demonstrated the absolute necessity of fighter aircraft cover for the attacking bombers.

Were any "fighter aircraft" provided to the attacking Cuban forces as a part of their overall plan to win?

It would be assumed that any serious researcher would know the somewhat murky history and association of William D. Pawley, to the JFK assassination.

There are however many ties of which most are not aware.

First, one should check the history of the "Pawley" family of the Florence/Georgetown, SC vicinity.

This would include "Pawley's Plantation" which is now a major golf course, designed by I believe none other than the Golden Bear himself.

Of course, the Pawley family actually owned two separate plantations.

There was the original "Wahocker" Plantation which predated the revolutionary war and was owned by Thomas George Pawley, and then the "Waverly" plantation which was formed when William Pawley purchased 904 acres from his father George.

This area also included that resort area of SC which is named "Pawley's Island".

The Pawley family were extremely wealthy "rice farmers" in this area of South Carolina, until the Civil War ended slave ownership which was necessary for the raising of rice.

At this point I do not recall the name, however, there were many, many, who were associated with the aviation industry who came into this due to having known, or flown with others.

As you are aware, Pawley was in Mexico for a period of time, and in fact, his son who was a pilot in WWII reportedly died there in/around 1951.

As various aspects of aviation are brought out, perhaps they may provide a lead into this.

Wife: Annie Hahr Dobbs*

Born: 20 January, 1898, at Marietta, GA

Attended Sophie Newcomb College (Tulane) in New Orleans and the National Service School in Washington, DC.

Married William Douglas Pawley of Port-au-Prince, Haiti on 25 July, 1918 or 1919.

*Daughter of Herbert Clifton Dobbs and Annie Hahr, and grand-daughter of Major David Judson Dobbs, Confederate States of America**

Although the family history claims that David J. Dobbs was a Major, there is no records found to substantuate this.

David J. Dobbs initially enlisted as a Private in the Georgia Home Guards.

Since he was also reportedly a graduate of, or had attended Georgia Military Institute in 1856, it would appear that he would have more than the rank of Private. That he initially enlisted as a Private does not disprove that he did not ultimately achieve the rank of Major in the Confederate Forces.

That his grand-daughter, Annie Hahr Dobbs, wife of William Douglas Pawley, was accepted in the Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University, is indicative of strong Confederacy ties within the family.

ADD: Herbert Clifton Dobbs and Annie Hahr Dobbs are buried in City Cemetery, Marietta, GA, adjacent to the Confederate Cemetery section.

Born: 27 August, 1893, Marietta, GA

Brother to: Annie Hahr Dobbs Pawley

USA Pilot---WWI

Served under command of Fiorella LaGuardia

Moved to Miami, FL after WWI and joined Pan American Airways as Manager of their Latin America division.

In this capacity, he was responsible for establishment of the first airfields in Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.

He is credited with having helped begun flight operations to Latin America and the Carribean.

In 1947, moved to National Airlines as Vice President.

In 1950, he joined Eastern Airlines as Vice-President in charge of flight relations and passenger handling for the Latin America Division.

When one of the first Eastern Airlines aircraft was hijacked to Cuba, Eastern sent Dobbs to negotiate with the new Cuban regime for it's release.

He retired from Eastern Airlines in 1967.

His daughter Louise was an invited guest representing him at the dedication of the "Caproni" exhibit at the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB.

Lt. Herbert Clifton Dobbs was one of the few American Pilots who served in WWI who flew the Italian made "Caproni" night bomber aircraft, of which only two are known to remain.

Hopefully, this information may serve to indicate how William Douglas Pawley got into the aviation business.

As the "Head" representative of CAMCO, which was in charge of the AVG/Flying Tigers of pre-WWII fame, of which Claire Chennault was the actual flying Commander, Pawley did not just "happen" into the aircraft industry.

He married into it!

And, it had DEEP roots into the carribean and Latin America. To include Cuba!

Of course, few are aware that William D. Pawley/aka CAMCO was also responsible for having established the Hindustan Aircraft Ltd company of Bangalore, India as well as having managed the AVG of Claire Chennault.
