Jack, they came up fine for me although they initially showed as empty...took

about a minute to load on my dial up connection. They are definitely there

in the article though.

Jack Ruby and John Thomas Masen were well known to each other, a fact we know from Jack Ruby’s phone data [found among JLR's personal effects], though Ruby did his best to obscure that fact. Among Ruby’s effects was found: “THOMAS FL 7-8547.” [CE 1322, page 748] Had that number been traced, it’s unlikely it led to anyone named ‘Thomas,’ since that number was assigned to Mrs. Ruth Wafford [DPD memo, Brumley to Gannaway – 01/27/64]. In fact, CE 2694 discloses that the notation Ruby had for “THOMAS” was a simply coded variant of “FL 7-7458,” a number assigned to John Thomas Masen’s gun shop. The code was crudely simple, a mere inversion of the final four digits, and yet has withstood 40 years of scrutiny without detection.

Or so we’re asked to believe.

Robert, that is a great piece of information on Masen and Ruby!

It also tends to corroborate the WC testimony by a friend of Ruby

and McWillie that Ruby was using simple coded messages to communicate

to McWillie during the time in which Ruby was first interested in and visited

Cuba.

Thank You

Larry, for helping to make Masen's photo available to us

and

James for posting it here for us!

and

Robert for the extra info about Masen and Jack Ruby.

I have been wanting to see Masen's photo for a long time. Well, since the discovery that the other photo was actually of Dial Ryder.

I wanted to see for myself, if Masen was actualy a dead-ringer for LHO, as claimed or if it was actually Dial Ryder that looked ike lHO. Now that I have seen both photos, I still don't know!..... :-)

Does anyone else have any opinions about this?

Also, does anyone question Dial Ryders WC Testimony? It is a rather strange sounding story to me. Although, I have never heard any connections with him at all, to anyone involved.

This is his WC Testimony (Two Parts)

Okay,

Off the top of my head, Dick Russell (I think) tracked him down and talked with him at his gun shop and said that Masen has a remarkable resembalance to Oswald.

Masen's gun shop was one of only two or three places in the Dallas area that carried Manlicher-Carcano 6.5 bullets.

In November 1963 Masen was being investigated by the ATF for possible federal firearms violations - I don't know exactly but I recall it possibly having to do with

trying to buy or sell machine guns with some Cubans.

An hour before the assassination, three federal agents had a business lunch together not far from Dealey Plaza, during which Masen's case was discussed.

These three agents were FBI agent Hosty, Army Intelligence agent Coyne, and an ATF agent I believe was Ellsworth.

Hosty was responsible for Oswald's security file, knew Oswald worked at the TSBD but didn't think it significant

because it wasn't a defense contractor or a security sensitive location - (unless you knew the President would be passing by there),

and had also investigated the Walker shooting, but never suspected Oswald.

Coyne, I think I have the spelling right, was an officer in the Army Intelligence Unit under Jones, who testified before the HSCA that they had a dozen or so

agents in plain clothes working in Dallas that day, some on the security of the president, and Coyne was one of them. Another was Powell, who took the

photos of the TSBD immediatly after the shooting and was caught inside the building after it was belatedly sealed.

Masen told Russell that he was entrapped by the feds, busted and lost his license to deal firearms.

Confirming the facts that he had been a Minuteman who knew Walker and lived next door to H.L. Hunt,

Masen told Russell:

"You know, I wouldn't be in your shoes. Going around asking people about the Cubans, the Kennedy assassination.

Why should people talk to you? There's no way they can do anything but lose."

"One thing you should remembrer, what may be a living for you can be a life to them."

"But if you want my opinion, to think the assassination was the act of one man, well, it'd be a very hard thing to do."

"I've got some friends who are top marksmen who say it couldn't have happened like they said. I really don't believe this was the brainstorm

of one deranged man. I think it was the sophisticated work of someone with a great deal of money, who coud buy a life."

(p. 164) On the Trail of the Assassins (Dick Russell)

Masen is reported to have obtained the MC bullets from Johnny Brinegar, who may still be alive.

That's great information, Bill, but can you or anyone else tell me how to go about finding a photo of JTM on the Internet? Maybe I just don't know how to go about finding it on the DPUK website...

Thanks,

OK, Bill, thanks anyway.

In "Deep Politics and the Death of JFK", Peter Dale Scott says that eight ATF agents, including Frank Ellsworth, were some of the earliest law enforcement types to reach the sixth floor, and also that, according to FBI agent James Hosty's testimony to the Select Committee fourteen years later, Ellsworth had indicated at the time of the assassination that he had been in the Grassy Knoll area and that, for some reason, he had identified himself as a Secret Service agent to someone on the Grassy Knoll (perhaps to police officer Joseph M. Smith?).

I wish I could find a photo of Ellsworth as well as Masen. James, are you out there? Bernice? Robin? Jack?
