Unfortunately, he could offer no helpful suggestions to me at that time, but he was quite sympathetic. If Mr. Swearingen does become a member, I would hope he could expound a bit on his experiences as an FOIA officer in the FBI. I am still seeking the records which should have been in the files of the FBI, the report by FBI Liaison Special Agent, Orrin Bartlett, of my interview of November 24, 1963, and those of the FBI agents of the Washington and Baltimore FBI offices who were ordered by Mr. Bartlett to "pick up Jose Rivera for interrogation." Adele Hi Adele, Yes, others have said that Mr. Swearingen is an okay guy who has helped decipher and locate special FBI documents. It seems Ernie Lazar is also an FBI document specialist who can help answer some of the outstanding questions if he sticks around. Ernie has also turned us on to some others, including Dr. Athan Theoharis. As I recently mentioned elsewhere, according to DeLoach's oral history at the LBJ Library, LBJ didn't trust the Secret Service and requested an FBI agent be placed aboard AF1 whenever he traveled, and he specifically requested Orrin Bartlett, who was given that assignment. So LBJ must have known Bartlett from before, possibly when he served as the FBI liason to the SS at the time of the assassination. There certainly should be a lot of reports from Bartlett released as part of the JFK Act, and there aren't. Was he absolved from writing reports on what happened in the most important investigation of his career? Swearingen, Hosty, Bartlett and Rice are all good guys, good cops placed in a bad spot, and I think they know what really happened just from being in the middle of the meat grinder and surviving. David Purcell Posted July 4, 2010 Share Posted July 4, 2010 If ever possible I would like to ask Mr. Swearingen about a tragedy that occurred in Chicago in the late 60's. I was attending high school in Chicago at the time and the FBI and the Chicago police led an assault on an apartment where Fred Hampton and several other Black Panther leaders were staying. Hampton and several others were killed in the assault. Initially officials claimed that they were merely conducting a raid that turned deadly when the Black Panthers opened fire but subsequent investigation proved that all of the shots were fired into the apartment and no shots out-ie. an official execution. A State's Attorney, Edward Hanrahan, took the fall or blame though the FBI supposedly led the raid. The question is this-someone told me years ago that Fred Hampton was executed because he was there in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963 and either saw or knew something that was dangerous. Thanks, BK If ever possible I would like to ask Mr. Swearingen about a tragedy that occurred in Chicago in the late 60's. I was attending high school in Chicago at the time and the FBI and the Chicago police led an assault on an apartment where Fred Hampton and several other Black Panther leaders were staying. Hampton and several others were killed in the assault. Initially officials claimed that they were merely conducting a raid that turned deadly when the Black Panthers opened fire but subsequent investigation proved that all of the shots were fired into the apartment and no shots out-ie. an official execution. A State's Attorney, Edward Hanrahan, took the fall or blame though the FBI supposedly led the raid. The question is this-someone told me years ago that Fred Hampton was executed because he was there in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963 and either saw or knew something that was dangerous. Does Mr. Swearingen have any information concerning this? I too would like to hear from Mr. Swearingen, and request that the monitors pay close attention to make sure that he is treated with respect and is allowed to answer questions feely and openly and state what he wants without interference by idiots. I see Mr. Swaringen has authored a book about Black Bag Jobs, which should be of special interest to JFK researchers in regards to the surrepetious entery into the FPCC offices in New York City at the same time the accused assassin was corresponding with that office, as well other, similiar FBI actions before and after the assassination. I think John Simkin could open the door by asking him a few general questions that he would probably like to answer in public, and encourage him to answer some more of our questions, as he appears to be an important source for information about the FBI and their files.
