  1. Dan Plesch repeats the call for impeachment, but in the democratic era the idea that the House of Lords should be able to remove a prime minister is complete nonsense. In the pre-democratic era impeachment was a way of "liquidating" opponents. Now the ballot box is available for political opponents, and the criminal courts for criminals, which is why a commons select committee recommended abolishing impeachment in 1967. If the opposition wishes to try to remove the prime minister at any time they can move a vote of no confidence, or wait for the general election. In reality, the impeachment call is just a publicity stunt. Tony Benn says: "The House of Commons voted for the war and MPs are unlikely to go into the lobby to condemn themselves". He could have added that many of us who voted against the war reject any charge that the prime minister acted in bad faith. In a free society everyone is entitled to oppose their rulers, but using lawyers and lords to try to topple an elected government is fundamentally undemocratic.
  2. Kevin Brennan was elected to Parliament in June 2001, succeeding the Rt Hon Rhodri Morgan who had represented Cardiff West since June 1987. Kevin worked as Mr Morgan's constituency based researcher from 1995, acting as his agent and Campaign Manager in the 1999 and 2000 Welsh Labour leadership contests. From March 2000 until May 2001, Kevin acted as Rhodri Morgan's Special Advisor at the Welsh Assembly. Kevin was born in Cwmbran, South Wales, on 16 October 1959. He was educated at St Alban's Roman Catholic Comprehensive School in Pontypool, before going up to Pembroke College, Oxford, where he studied PPE. After graduating, Kevin studied at the University of Wales, Cardiff, and at the University of Glamorgan, working towards his PGCE and then a Msc. in Education and Management. Before becoming Mr. Morgan's full-time aide in 1995, Kevin was Head of Economics at Radyr Comprehensive School in Cardiff. Between 1991 and 2001 he was a member of Cardiff City, and then Cardiff City and County, Council representing the ward of Canton. During this time he served as Chair of the Finance Committee, Chair of the Economic Scrutiny Committee and Vice-Chair of the Economic Development.
