I too used to teach Sociology in the 1980's and the two textbooks were by Selfe and Nobbs. We often started the class (mixed) by saying either "Get your Nobbs out" or "Get your Selfe out. Such ribaldry at the beginning of the lesson somehow broke any tension, and learning proceeded with good humour (or so I like to recall). B Jones
