  1. John, On the allocated days for special projects on citizenship education I could: i) write a case-study on "Science for Citizenship", or ii) built a web-site in English with some interactive activities for Citizenship Education (similar to the BioQuest site - http://nonio.eses.pt/bioquest/ - with decision-making activities about different controversial issues like "Stem cells in research and medicine", "Environmental and social impacts of big water dams", etc.). What do you think about these hypothesis? In Portugal we also have some good experiences of democratic participation in decision-making at schools involving teachers and students. Pedro
  2. Congratulations John. You have done a fantastic plan. I agree with the complete schedule. In Portugal, I would prefer to organize the meeting in Santarém (it would be easier). It's a city 80 Km from Lisbon. There is a good train connection from Lisbon (50 minutes). Is it OK?
  3. My colleague from Belgium is trying to find someone interested in this project and able to communicate in English.
  4. I agree with Richard. To cover the cost of Internet usage would be a good way of rewarding project members for their work.
  5. I agree with Juan Carlos. I think that we could translate an extended summary of our texts into English. In Portugal, translating a text with 1000 words would cost about 60 Euros.
  6. I'm sending you the message from my Belgium partner. I think that her colleague can participate if the project budget includes some money for English translation. I have the same opinion. I know English but I don't have enough time to spend writing case-studies and other documents in English. I am in this project because I think it's very interesting. However, I don't intend to pay the translation from my pocket. So, if the project does not include some money for translations, I'm very sorry but, I'm out of the project. Pedro I don't know yet the answer of Rosalie. I have a question: do you think that it could be possible to find in the budget, a part of money for good translation in English? If it is possible, maybe my colleage would be reassured. Could you find this new information ? For the rest, I think that it's possible for her to participate. We will see. Do I have 1 or 2 days more to find someone else, if necessary? Because, I find this project very interesting. Best regards, Martine
  7. 250 is OK. However, my institution has nothing to complain about because I'll be working on my free time and I must replace every class I miss.

  12. Money for materials' translation into English.
  13. We can organize a workshop in Santarém.
  14. I have no idea about how much time the activities will consume.
  15. I agree with the summary of the project. However, I have one question: are residential conferences best described as residential workshops?
  16. I agree with the laptop, the Handycam, the software for video compressing and the possibility of video conferencing.
  17. I have no comments about this, because I don't have experience on this aspect.
  18. This is something new for me, because I've never been payed to participate in a european project. Usually the projects paid me the travel expenses and some Learning Objects I made. So, I have some questions about how this will be possible in my school. I would be able (with pleasure): 1) to write the case studies; 2) to make Interactive on-line material (with activities) for citizenship education workshops (with some colleagues of mine); 3) to plan materials for citizenship education workshops (specially related with science education for citizenship: a research area I usually work on); 4) to search interesting citizenship practices in my country (mainly) and in other countries; 5) (eventually) to organize an residential workshop at our school. I don't know how much time these activities will consume. I will need money for: i) materials' translation into English (case studies, activities...); and ii) websites' illustration.
  19. I'll send you the missing data on the 6th or 7th of February.
  20. Pedro Reis (and Escola Superior de Educação de Santarém) is committed to the project.
