  1. After the war, Communist took over. True Communism is impossible to exist. In this world, corruption always exist. The current Vietnamese government is corrupted, always press the people, not willing to allow blooms. The Vietnamese are being limited to education. The government is more to be dictatorship. People wish to fled the country to find freedom and opportunities. Considering the health, the war had left poison in the blood of the people. The people around the areas heavily impacted during the war recieve sickness. Economy is low because of corrustion. The values of Vietnamese dollars are seem to be papers. They have very very little values.

In Vietnam, the people are still seeking help from the outside world.

*These are opinions of a 16year old native-born Vietnamese.

  2. I am a 16 year old Vietnamese student. Here is what I think. I am not a credible source, but I have to speak. I learned a bit about the Vietnam War, and thought of some ways for the South Vietnamese to win the war. As Mike said, it was impossible to win because we (US and South Vietnam) did not have the support (both the Americans and the Vietnamese). In US, the anti-war movement during the Vietnam was the biggest in US history, Congress did not want to support the war. In Vietnam, the Vietnamese did not like the American soldiers; they looked at them as invaders, just like the French. Neither US nor South Vietnam seek the support of the Vietnamese, the main focus should be to win the trust of the Vietnamese. At the time, North Vietnam, the Viet Cong sneeked into villages and told amazing stories to win their support, though many of what they told were not true. Another factor the war was lost was the Vietnamese government, corruption. Thieu was unpopular. He was Christian and so he pressed the Buddhist.

One way we win that war: If we fight an offensive war. What we did was defensive, containing communism. We waited for them to attack and block. If we striked them, we could have won, we have the power. We could have obliterated their source in Hanoi. I hope my opinions are supported

  3. oh thank you Steve, that really gave me a start. i want to ask are there written sources to back up that? I found this while reading the books: "The next day Kenedy inaugurated his administration bypromising to "pay any price, bear any brden, ... support any friends, oppose any foe to assure the survival and success of liberty.""

-from "inaugural Address," January 20, 1961, Public Papers of the Presidents of the United States: john F. Kenedy, 1961 (Government Printing Office, 1962)

  4. I am a high school student at Benjamin Banneker High School in Washington DC, USA. I am in the IB Program and thus I need to write an "internal assessment" (similar to a research paper) for my IB History class. I chose to research the Vietnam War, I further narrow down my focus into "During the Vietnam War, did the American make any promise to the Vietnamese, if yes, what? And did they break this/these promises? I have done research outside already, and I have some basic background of the events. I came across this forum and wanted to join in order to ask for expert help.
