  1. I grew up in a small town on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State and am currently a candidate at the University for Peace (United Nations affiliated graduate program) for a Masters in Gender and Peace Building. Prior to studying at UPEACE, I attended Linfield College and graduated with a B.A. in political Science (major) and Communication Arts (minor). During my senior year of college, I also worked full time as a social worker for the state of Oregon with teenagers in difficult circumstances as well as a volunteer with various community programs. After the completion of my undergraduate program, I served as a Peace Corps Youth Development Volunteer in Nepal from 2002 to 2004. My professional interests include gender parity in local, national, and international politics and the peace process, gender and militarization, as well as human rights. It is my hope to eventually work with governments or non-governmental organizations in conflict and post-conflict situations in order to better identify and understand the different needs of men, women, boys and girls and reduce incidents of gender based violence.
