  1. I had never heard of Bobby Joe Johnson before. There appears to be nothing on him at maryferrell.
  2. Can anyone tell me when the memo from Eisenberg to Rankin titled "Identity of Assassin" first became public? Am I correct that it was not included in the Warren Commission materials?
  3. Eugene Hale Brading, though there is no need to speculate if he was there or not.
  4. For what it's worth, Amos Euins comments in his HSCA interview that he could see inmates "hanging on the bars trying to see."
  5. HSCA Final Report, 1/2/79 (pg. 65-66) The Warren Commission had also employed scientific analysis in its investigation and had recognized that acoustics might be used to resolve some questions about the shots fired at the President. It had obtained a tape recording, an alleged on-the-scene account of the assassination made by Sam Pate, a Dallas radio newsman, but an FBI examination of the tape "failed to indicate the presence of any sounds which could be interpreted as gunshots." The FBI also informed the Commission that the newsman had stated that most of the tape was not recorded in Dealey Plaza at the time of the assassination, but was recorded in a studio several days later after he had been dismissed by his station, KBOX. The Commission independently submitted the tape for analysis to Dr. Lawrence Kersta of Bell Telephone Acoustics & Speech Research Laboratory. As reported in a letter from Kersta to the Commission on July 17, 1964, spectograms (visual representations of tonal qualities in the sounds) were made of a key 8-second portion of the tape. The spectograms indicated there were six nonvoiced noises - one nonvoiced "spike" (a scientific term for a graphic display of a noise) followed by three other nonvoiced spikes of different acoustical characteristics occurring .86 seconds, 1.035 seconds and 1.385 seconds after the first. These, in turn, were followed by two events apparently caused by sound and believed to have been related to the previous ones. Dr. Kersta did not indicate in his letter that he had found shots, and the results of his tests were not mentioned in the Warren Report. The committee was unable to locate the Kersta spectographs in the National Archives until late 1978 (they had been misfiled), but it did obtain the tape recording made on November 22, 1963, by KBOX reporter Sam Pate. On May 11, 1978, the committee submitted the tape to an acoustical consultant for analysis, with these results: While a portion of the tape was recorded on November 22, 1963, in the vicinity of Dealey Plaza, it was thought not to be contemporaneous with the assassination. Other portions of the tape, moreover, seemed to have been recorded, at least in large part, in a studio, since appropriate background noise was not present. And even if the tape had been made during the firing of the shots and had recorded them, Kersta's spectographic analysis would not have found them. The committee's consultant advised that spectographic analysis is appropriate only for detecting tonal, or harmonic, sound. To identify a gunshot, the analysis must be able to portray a waveform on an oscilloscope or similar such device.
  6. Fantastic! Thank you much Bart!
  7. Braden appears to have had a daughter, Rebecca, with Margaret Berry, who became Margaret Little: https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=73546#relPageId=5&tab=page "I'm living in Pittsburgh with my Mother, as you may have guessed. I'm working, and my mother is taking care of Rebecca. She's 10 months old now. She's a darling baby and so cute. You'd like her Jim. She has some of your features. I haven't had a picture taken yet, but when I write again, I'll send you one."
  8. Her relationship with Robert Webster and subsequent confusing of his story with LHO's would seem to confirm that.
  9. http://jfk.hood.edu/Collection/Weisberg Subject Index Files/N Disk/Noyes Peter/Item 10.pdf Article in The Village Voice by Earl Golz, 11/29/73 Federal agents are now investigating reports that Brading has an important role of courier for laundering the mob's illegitimate money to Amsterdam and Zurich... While Brading waited two to three hours in the sheriff's office for the quizing, his hotel roommates beat it and checked out at about 2 p.m. on November 22, leaving Brading behind. This was 90 minutes after the assassination. Why did they leave so abruptly? When they had registered on November 21 the desk clerk noted they would stay until November 24... A former Hunt Oil Company official, however, said he recalls seeing Braden and the others in the receptionist's office November 21, waiting to see Lamar's brother, Nelson Bunker Hunt. He said he didn't know if they ever got an audience with the oilman.
  10. http://jfk.hood.edu/Collection/Weisberg Subject Index Files/N Disk/Newsreal/Item 01.pdf Newsreal Magazine article by Tom Lutz, 1977 (Newsreal Magazine issue #3) Eugene Hale Brading tells me he had nothing to do with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy or his brother, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. Brading, who also goes by the name Jim Braden, told me he has alibis for his whereabouts the moment both John and Robert Kennedy were gunned down. Brading says that the moment John Kennedy was shot in Dealey Plaza, he was in the office of his federal probation officer, Roger Carroll, in Dallas, Tex. Brading says that at the moment Robert Kennedy was shot in the kitchen of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, he was in bed with his wife at the Century Plaza in the same city. The problem is that neither of Brading's alibis hold any water. Roger Carroll, still a probation officer in Dallas, said he could not deny or confirm Brading's story to me: "He (Brading) reported to our office some time during the day of the assassination," Carroll said. "Our report shows that. As for the exact time he was here, I can't confirm or deny that." However, pressed to be more specific, Carroll did recall that employees at the Federal Building in Dallas, which housed Carroll's office, were released from their work to watch President Kennedy's motorcade pass by the building, which is some 12 blocks or so from the location in Dealey Plaza where the President was shot. Carroll said that the probation offices were closed about 15 or 20 minutes before Kennedy's car passed. Carroll himself boarded a bus after Kennedy's car passed the Federal building and the bus moved toward the scene of the assassination. It was on that bus that Carroll learned that the President had been shot. A passenger who boarded the bus told Carroll and the other riders. While Carroll was firm in his conviction that he could not recall the exact time Brading visited the probation office, he said, "I think it would have been in the morning. If I were to guess, I'd say it was a short time before the assassination." Carroll said he did not believe Brading showed up at his office after the assassination because "everyone in Dallas was all upset then." Brading was arrested in Dealey Plaza after the assassination. He was questioned by police and released. Brading reported to Carroll in a "casual visit" that was required of someone on probation or parole who had traveled from one state (California, in this case) to another (Texas). Carroll could not recall specifically who Brading came to Texas to visit, but he believes that Brading's stay was connected with some "oil business." Logic would require that Brading visited Carroll sometime before the assassination. Brading's ex-wife, with whom he was supposedly in bed at the Century Plaza Hotel the night Bobby Kennedy was assassinated, said she could not have been with him at the Century Plaza. She said she separated from him in February of 1968 and was either in New York or Dallas in June of that year, at the time Bobby Kennedy was killed...
  11. Sorry Bart, didn't realize you were referring to a different running woman.
  12. I thought Debra Conway put this topic to bed years ago. The photos of Toni Foster bear a striking resemblance to the "Running Woman."
  13. Thoughts and prayers to your family Joe. Thanks for posting Vince. I will be sure to pick up a copy.
  14. Malcolm Jerry Hoy died in 2010 at age 68. https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/name/malcolm-hoy-obituary?pid=178595165
  15. From the 11/29 Houston Post: The motorcade arrangements came so late in the planning that Texas Gov. John B. Connally Jr, who accompanied the President on the short plane trip from Fort Worth to Dallas, reportedly was not aware of it. The governor was subsequently wounded in the three-shot fusillade fired by the assassin. Rep. James C. Wright Jr. D-Texas, of Fort Worth, who was also on the plane, said Thursday that during the flight the governor said he was under the impression the motorcade had been “cancelled” and that the party would go straight to the Trade Mart via a route avoiding the downtown area. http://jfkassassinationfiles.com/HoustonPostNov291963.pdf
  16. Sorry. Should have included the link to begin with: http://jfkassassinationfiles.com/HoustonPostNov241963.pdf
  17. I had never seen this mentioned before. From the 11/24 Houston Post: Dallas Police Chief Jesse Curry said Saturday night that photographs found in the home of Lee Harvey Oswald’s Russian-born wife link him with the rifle used Friday in the assassination of President Kennedy. Curry said the pictures found in the home in suburban Irving, near Dallas, will be used as evidence in Oswald's murder trial… Curry said the FBI has a letter, in Oswald’s handwriting, ordering the 6.5mm Italian carbine from a mail order house in Chicago for $12.78. Oswald used an alias and a Dallas Post Office box number in the letter, Curry said. The FBI headquarters in Washington confirmed Curry’s statement about the letter but would make no elaboration… Curry said a minister in South Carolina called in a tip that led to the mail order rifle tie-in. Federal agents contacted the Chicago dealer, whose records showed that a gun matching the one found in the book depository building was ordered March 20 and asked to be mailed to a Dallas post office box, not under Oswald’s name, Curry said.
  18. And what is the name of the TSBD witness who claims to have been making change for Oswald when the shooting started?
  19. Hope you don't mind me posting this Gary 😛 Letter from Richard Sprauge to Gary Murr, 1/4/68 (Weisberg Archives) I talked to and corresponded with Similas last summer with the same sort of results you have had and finally gave up… I explained to him who I was and about my research and he said if I would write to him he would consider letting me see his pictures. I wrote and when I didn’t hear from him I called again. This time he said he would send me a full set of his photos (13). When I quizzed him about where he was standing and what the pictures showed, I got the same kind of hazy answers you did… After two weeks I phoned again and he told me his secretary had mailed the photos. I said we’d better put a tracer on them because they had not arrived. He said he would check with his secretary and find out where they had been mailed to, my office or my club in New York where I live. After another two weeks, I called again, this time at his hardware store which he told me he owned. He said he would send me another set of photos. (13) This time I asked him again what they showed and he said three of them showed Kennedy on Elm Street with the Depository Building in the background. He said at least one of the photos showed the sixth floor window with no one in it between the first and the last shot… Anyway, the photos never did arrive. After a little more time, I asked my secretary to phone his secretary and find out when and where she had mailed them. She couldn’t reach anyone at first. When she finally got through to the hardware store, another man answered. When she asked for Similas’ secretary the man said, “Are you kidding, he doesn’t have a secretary.” When she tried his unlisted number his wife answered and said he was out of town and couldn’t be reached. My secretary kept trying both numbers for several days with the same results, till one day the hardware store number was disconnected. That’s when I gave up. I called Ray Jefferies at Associated Press in Chicago. He says Similas had several rolls of film and that all photos on all rolls were of the convention Similas attended, except for two photos on one roll. One of these showed the front of a car and the other showed the rear end of a car. Neither photo showed the occupants of the car or anything in the background which would give Jeffries a clue as to where and when they were taken. However, Jeffries was looking at negatives, developed on the spot in Chicago, and would not necessarily have had any way of knowing whether those two photos or any of the others were taken in Dealey Plaza.
  20. That I don't know. She had just turned 54, two days before the assassination.
