I think I'd buy a gallon gasoline can, fill it up and sneak up onto the back dock of the TSBD at noon, pour it out and light a match.  Surely they wouldn't bring the president right by a burning building.

If I get caught I claim "they" were going to shoot the president and blame it on Oswald.  If I can't get back to the portal by 6:00 I plead insanity on the arson charge.  What's a few years in a mental institution if you saved JFK?  Then again I'd probably be killed for screwing up the operation.

    You're plan worked! Story from 1963 below;

Kennedy's Dallas visit exceeded expectations, his Trade Mart speech was welcomed with a standing ovation. However, an otherwise happy day, was marred by what is now being coined as "The TSBD Towering Inferno" where over 50 employees sadly lost their lives. The arsonist, caught later in a theatre, Ron Bulman, was committed to an asylum, where he continues to tell staff that he was actually trying to save lives. TSBD hero employee Lee Harvey Oswald, was awarded yesterday, the Medal of Bravery, in a White House lawn ceremony by President Kennedy. Mr Oswald managed to drag several employees to safety, including his best friend, Wesley Frazier who was found in the basement drawing his last breaths. Mr. Bulman's landlady, Ruth Paine, later handed over to the FBI, a note now known to be written by Bulman, that clearly shows he was planning the act of terror over many weeks. Of course, the famous photo of Bulman standing with a gallon can in one hand, and a match in the other, would have been enough to convince any jury.

  2. First thing I'd do on arrival would be to grab a Minox ..... readily available, everybody had one

I'll meet up with you at the Carousel Club, you look for Ruby, while I watch the show

Later, I'll catch a cab to West 5th, break into the vacant house next to Ruths, and grab a few hours kip

In the morning, I'd be ready with my Minox to snap a few pics of Oswald carrying that 2 foot long cheese sandwich in a paper bag

    to be continued ....

    Hope you find something

Ok, when you mentioned 4029 Byers, alarm bells went off, in fact I nearly activated the neighborhood air raid siren.

    Pendleton was over on Byers

I knew at this point that the McCarthy/Pendleton family told the FBI about the departure of Marguerite from Thomas, but they also told them that they had no idea where she went.

    Hence the alarm.

But it may be a nothingburger, Pendleton was on 5029 Byers, not 4029

btw. I use H&L info as a starting point, certainly not gospel. I have no choice but to reference the information there otherwise some readers here would not know what I'm referring to. Mostly anything contrary to the official line is a theory. H&L have solid research, and a ton of it, and they have developed their own theories from the discrepancies. There's always newly developed information, and theories evolve. So in this case, they have a table where 4 months are allocated for Thomas Place in 54. If they persist on displaying that table, they may need to squeeze it into a much shorter stay or discard Thomas Place 1954 altogether. If they still want Marguerite in Thomas in Sept/Oct, when do they arrive? How did they know when the existing tenant was vacating? There are no previous rental ads that I can see all the way back to 52. Do they have potential renters responding to Sept 14th to Nov 1st ads checking out the premises for 6 weeks? McCarthy/Pendleton had the ledgers for 2220 Thomas Place, yet they fail to inform the FBI that the guy that shot Kennedy was a lodger in 1954, but they hand over seemingly worthless information that Marguerite vacated over a year after the assassination. All this and more to consider.

  4. DJ

The H&L site has those strips showing where they were for each month. (you can see the Sept strip in my original picture collage)

So the months of Sept through to Dec 54 are allocated to 2220 Thomas Place

The rental ads run continuously from the 14th Sept 54 to 1st Nov almost every day. Only difference is the ad style and price drop.

This 4029 Byers has me intrigued, there is something going on over there, looking into that now

Tony... this has to do with the other house next to Stripling where Marge lived at some point...  if she was at 2220 Thomas on 11/22/63... it was not long until she is moved to the other side of Stripling... 4029 Byers... and was there for at least 10 years.

Wait ..... I have something, let me get my head around this

Do you know when Jessie Mae moved in?

I've moved on from Jessie Mae, but I can take another look.

I just added a line to Update #2, looks like William Almonte Hazlewood is the right guy, he and his wife at another time lived a block north of the Stripling School, so they like the immediate area.

Ed Voebel knew both LHOs when each attended Beauregard, although he probably regarded them as just two different kids with the same last name.   As Myra DaRouse indicated in the interview, the piano episode with HARVEY occurred during the spring semester of 1954, well before the fight.

So if we overlay Voebel's 18 month timeframe, it happens to coincide with the Piano Incident all the way through to Oswald's CAP days.

You have confirmed that Voebel knew both Oswalds in your quoted text.

Therefore, Voebel knew of Harvey Oswald in the 54 spring semester, and according to Sandy, he became acquainted with Lee Oswald later in the 54 fall semester.

a place put up for rent doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't currently occupied. It means that it will be available (unoccupied) on a date specified by a new rental agreement.

The last time the apartment was advertised was in October 1952 as far as I can see.

These latest ads ran from the middle of September, 1954

In the first week of September 1954, tenants at the same address advertised their fridge for sale, so one may assume they were the people currently residing at the address and intending to move out.

The existing residents had to be there in early September in order for buyers to view the fridge for sale at the advertised address.

Then the rental ad appears a week later which makes sense, as residents may have sold their fridge and moved out.

The problem is that the rental ad ran for the remainder of September indicating that they were seeking to fill the apartment.

As you said, it doesn't necessarily mean, but it sure looks like it

  9. This thread will be continually updated as more info comes in. Updates will be displayed in this Original Post below the picture.

This thread will be based on the existing H&L information that Rufie Cox resided in Apartment "A" 2220 Thomas Place in the years 1954 & 1955 is correct. In other words, the rental ads refer to Apartment "B"

H&L have the Marguerite Imposter and Harvey Oswald living in Apartment "B" for the months of September to December 1954

If the ad below refers to Unit B 2220 Thomas Place, it was empty

2220 thomas place september 30 ad fort worth marguerite oswald stripling.png

    Update #1

In May 1954, Apartment "B" was occupied by Jessie Mae Scarbrough (born Hoggard) b.1914 - d.1998. She had divorced her husband Leo Jackson Scarbrough in 1947.

On September 8th, 1954, a refrigerator for sale ad at 2220 Thomas Place was placed in the Fort Worth Star Telegram.

On September 14th 1954, a week later, rental ads first started appearing in the same paper like the one in the above picture.

Prior to 1954, rental ads show up for the same apartment in October 1952, nothing can be found so far between these dates.

    Update #2

There is a time span between the 2220 Thomas Place rental ads from September 1954, to June 1955 when they next appeared.

Who was the tenant residing in Apartment “B” during this time?

As mentioned in the H&L book, and who’s name can be seen in the above picture, W. A. Hazelwood occupied Apartment “B” as listed in the Fort Worth City Directory.

The City Directories back then compiled their information in the very late months of the year and the very early months of the following year. That information was then typeset, printed, bound and finally distributed to subscribers around April/May. An example would be the Dallas City Directory of 1963, which was distributed in May. The period between compiling and distributing was a very lengthy process of many months.

In order for W. A. Hazelwood to appear in the 1955 Directory, this person had to be in Apartment “B” either in the very late months of 1954 or the very early months of 1955, or both.

We can safely say that W. A. Hazelwood was an occupier of Apartment “B” somewhere between September 1954, and June 1955.

It appears the occupiers of Apartment “B” were William Almonte Hazlewood and his wife Sybil Estrange Newman Hazlewood. Note the subtle difference in the spelling of “Hazlewood” with the Fort Worth Directory “Hazelwood”, the letters “L” and “E” are reversed. A common spelling error and in fact, the gravestones of William Almonte Hazlewood and his son Gordon differ in the spelling of that name.

William Almonte Hazlewood was born in 1890 and died in 1961. There is a patent attributed to him in 1923 for the piston of an internal combustion engine. William shared the patent with a good friend of his, Jess H White Sr b.1896 d.1959. Both men are mentioned in the patent as William A. Hazlewood of Fort Worth and Jess H White of Fort Worth.

Jess H White lived at 4533 Pershing Avenue Fort Worth before he died in 1959, just around the corner from where his friend William A Hazlewood lived at 2220 Thomas Place.

William Almonte Hazlewood also lived at 4009 Lafayette Avenue, a block or so north of the Stripling School.

It’s beginning to appear that William A Hazlewood responded to the Fort Worth Star Telegram rental ads in the latter half of the 1954 year.

    Update #3

As mentioned in the H&L book, Edna Pendleton owned 2220 Thomas Place, and it is claimed by H&L that the Marguerite Imposter lived there in 1954.

Officially, she did in fact live there at the time of the assassination in 1963.

Later after the assassination, on the very day Marguerite Oswald vacated 2220 Thomas Place, the family of Edna Pendleton contacted the FBI to inform them of her movements.

This action shows a willingness to pass on information regarding Marguerite Oswald.

    Update #4

Looks like Pendleton dropped the rent

    I believe we can now paint a picture;

The occupier of Apartment "B" moves out early Sept 54, rental ads appear for 2 weeks at $45, new rental ads run through to Nov 54 reformatted with Arlington Heights inserted, the rent dropped $5 and Thomas Place to Thomas Pl. The elderly Hazlewoods, taking advantage of the reduced rent, move in mid-Nov 54.

So, Ed first became acquainted with Lee in October 1954 right after the fight.

    Myra DaRouse, in her video interview, said the event below occurred in "February, early March" at the end of basketball season;

Myra DaRouse remembers one incident in particular: On one occasion we were practicing basketball in the schoolyard. Ed Voebel comes running out and says, 'Ms. DaRouse! Ms. DaRouse! Come inside quick!" So Dorothy Duvik [another teacher] and I went into the basement, and there on the floor was Harvey, and an upright piano that had fallen, [on] his legs from the waist down. So with the help of Ed Voebel [we] pulled the piano up, and I asked him if he was hurt, asked Harvey if he was hurt, and he said no, he didn't think so. And I said well maybe we should call your mother and he said no, because she is at work: "She is working at the bar."

Myra says this event was before the fight, she says "The piano was before the fight outside Oh Yes!"

Where in the timeframe do you place this incident?

IIRC, Lee Oswald attended Beauregard for three semesters: Spring 1954, Fall 1954, and Spring 1955. Assuming Ed Voebel was also attending those semesters, he could have been aware of Lee as early as January 1954. From then until August 1955 is 19 months. So Ed could have known Lee for up to 19 months.

    Voebel is quite clear in his testimony. He says he did not know who Oswald was prior to him being aquainted;

Mr. VOEBEL. Yes, sir. I don't exactly remember when I first saw him because I might have seen him going to school and back without knowing who it was

    He continues the same sentence;

Mr. VOEBEL. but I really became acquainted with him

So, when Voebel told police that he knew Oswald for 1-1/2 years, we take 18 months from August 55, back to somewhere in the early/middle of the 54 Spring Semester.

I believe in the early/middle 54 Spring Semester, Voebel became "acquainted" with Oswald

So between the start of the 54 Spring Semester and up to the point at which Voebel and Oswald became acquainted, Voebel "might have seen him going to school and back without knowing who it was"

  12. 1 hour ago, Sandy Larsen said:

From Armstrong's book:  Lee Oswald and Ed Voebel became acquainted in October1954. They didn't become close friends until June of 1955. (Though at one place in the book it says that Ed began going to Lee's home in the spring of 1955.) It is implied that the two were friends until August 1955.

Voebel was interviewed on the 27th November 1963, by Sgt Austin & Det Frey. Voebel told them that he knew Oswald for about 1-1/2 years (18 months).

You state that they were friends until August 1955, so if we go back 18 months, Voebel first became acquainted with someone he believed was the same person sometime around February 1954.

    Correct?

Well, I don't know. Getting stitches for a cut through the lip is just as major as getting a crown. And Lillian may have paid only for the stitches and not the crown for all we know. The crown would have been fitted in subsequent visits.

Before I respond to that, when did Voebel cease his association with Lee Oswald? or, if you don't know for sure, when do you believe Voebel ceased his association with Lee Oswald?

    To Tony Krome,

Thanks for the post.  Honest scrutiny of HarveyandLee.net is really appreciated.

I always thought that photo looked more like American-born Lee than Russian-speaking Harvey, but I’m admittedly not good with faces. I’ve sent John A. a link here as well as the content of your post and look forward to his response.

Since he's heading over, ask him to double check the official OPSB records of Myra DaRouse. I have her as serving three "school years" starting September 1953, which would take her through to the completion of the 55/56 session.

I believe she agreed in her video interview that she had her Home Room in the second year or middle year which would be 54/55

  15. Lee Harvey Oswald wore his "3 Amigos" shirt to Beauregard on the day his friend, Ed Voebel was taking photos for the 54/55 yearbook.

The "clown-like" photo was apparently not included in the yearbook.

It appears that Oswald wore the same shirt on the day the individual student photos were taken.

If the above is correct, AND Oswald wore that fancy shirt only ever once to school in anticipation of individual student photos, the Tooth Fairy never came for his front tooth, as can be seen in the individual student yearbook photo.

Lillian Murret stated that Marguerite told her that she picked up her son up at school and took him over to the dentist after Lee "ran his tooth through the lip". Lillian paid the bill. She did not mention a tooth knocked completely out, and certainly if there was major crown replacement dental work, or prosthesis, I doubt very much that Lillian would describe the incident as a tooth through the lip.

A punch that mashed his top lip and chipped or loosened a tooth seems befitting to Lillian's description.

  16. Visitors to the Harvey & Lee website are invited to compare the facial features of HARVEY and LEE

The montage of HARVEY and LEE comparison photos is prominent on the Home page http://harveyandlee.net

Visitors can run their mouse over the top of each photo (without clicking) for a description

When they hover over "1954 top and bottom", they will see descriptions of two different Oswalds

    1. If the Harvey Row is accurate, I don't see how this Harvey went to Stripling, because he appears in the 1955 Beauregard Yearbook which would be the 54/55 school year

    2. If the Harvey Row is inaccurate, then the "1954 top and bottom" Oswalds are the same person, and visitors are being misled

Curry told reporters that the DPD did not have anyone who saw a rifle. He went on to tell reporters that he did read something about that in the papers.

How exactly did 2 boys with the same basic identity attend the same school at the same time and not have any overlap which then confused the other students, and themselves as well?

According to, and during testimony, the Marguerite Imposter produced a CAP photo of LEE Oswald in a uniform the Marguerite Imposter said she bought and that Robert Oswald helped arrange.

On a Sunday afternoon, 1955, in New Orleans, Marguerite, Robert and LEE Oswald, in uniform, went out together and had lunch.

The Marguerite Imposter, somehow knew about LEE's friend, (presumably Ed Voebel), knew that he talked her son into joining the CAP, and had been present in her house.
