About Me
Although born in Michigan, I grew up in California and lived the first 15 years of my adult life in Los Angeles. I spent seven years as a music critic for the Los Angeles Times. After earning a PhD in musicology in Berlin, I lived for ten years on the East Coast, with six years as an adjunct professor in music composition at Purchase College. I also spent one year in Seoul, South Korea, as guest professor at Korean National University of Arts, before moving back to California. I studied law during this time and earned a JD. Since joining the Education Forum in 2004, I have self-published two books, written program notes for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and freelanced as a music writer for Sacramento News & Review.
