Tim Gratz
Do people here know the story of Louis De Wit? Has it been discussed here before?
James Richards
Louis De Wit allegedly crossed paths with a Russian officer from Kiev in Antwerp two months before the assassination who told him JFK would be killed. His name was Ivan Kutsharenko but De Wit said there were many passports with many identities. Edit: The document below posted out of order for some bizarre reason. Tim Gratz
So James I take it there is no evidence he reported this encounter contemporaneously? Or reported it to the WC after the assassination? Any idea if anyone ever interviewed him, either an author or the HSCA? I notice there appears to be some confusion in the document you posted whether he mailed his letter on Nov 21, 1963 or he expected it to be received at the WH on Nov 21, 1963? A rather consequential difference. Edited September 4, 2007 by Tim Gratz
Tim Gratz
Peter, your question ASSUMES the WC knew of his existence. My question was why the man did not report his claimed warning to the WC. You cannot expect the WC to question a man in Belgium that it had never heard of, for goodness sake! Tim Gratz
Peter, probably the HSCA should have questioned him. But my point was that a question could be raised about the veracity of his claim if he did not make it during the life of the WC. I mean, his information, if correct, was of great and obvious importance.
Antti Hynonen
The name Louis de Wit, reminds me of the name Louie Steven Witt, aka the Umbrella man. Pure coincidence that the names are rather similar, I'm sure.
