John Simkin
Freddie Sears is the next big star from the West Ham Academy. So far this season he has scored 21 goals in 17 games for the under 18s. On Monday he played for the reserves and scored two and made the other for Dean Ashton. There is a possibility that he might be brought on in the game against Chelsea on Saturday. However, I am not too sure about the gloves. No one wore them in my day. http://www.whufc.com/page/News/0,,12562~1226438,00.html

I imagine it is a premiership record. It was also the winning goal. Hopefully, the other star of our academy, James Tompkins, will get his debut before the end of the season. Both are local lads (Romford and Basildon) who have been at the club since they were 11 years old. It was great to see two other local lads, Geoff Hurst and Trevor Brooking, smiling from the stands, when Sears scored. West Ham still retains its image as a community club.
