Guest Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 One of the busiest string quartets on the isle of Man has just launched their new website. Beautiful Music – an all female string quartet – was formed in 2007 and has gone from strength to strength with wedding bookings nearly every weekend during this past Summer and bookings in the diary as far ahead as Spring 2011. Three members of the quartet played together in a trio when they were teenagers. They decided that as a business venture they would reform with a friend as a quartet and offer elegant background music for weddings, parties, corporate functions – and even funerals. The members are Mary Frankwick, Liz Godby, Libby McIntosh and Ruth Douthwaite. All are busy Mums with 12 children between them. But they are also highly experienced musicians and include a graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music, the holder of an Associated Board Diploma, and two members of the Isle of Man Symphony orchestra. So what is the key to their success? “ We absolutely love what we do and we are always trying to push the boundaries of what we can achieve.” “We are all busy people with other jobs and responsibilities but the quartet for us is fun, challenging and satisfying as we know from the feedback that we add something special to the events at which we play.” “We are constantly learning new music and can play a whole range from Bach and Handel through romantic pieces, show tunes, pop songs, jazz, Scottish reels and even some rock music. We try to tailor our choice of music to suit the client. Some want pure classical, others want a mixture. Each event is different and we respond to that. We also try to respond to special requests and can arrange music at a small extra charge.” Their advice to anyone looking for background music for a special occasion? “Have a look at our website, give us a call and chat through your requirements but whatever you do – book early! Saturdays in July and August get booked up well before Christmas. This year, anyone booking us before 31st December will get us at 2009 prices!” The website address is: http://www.beautifulmusic.org.uk
